The only issue with the MOV version for me is that The Secret Song is tacked at the end of Carry Stress, so that song doesnt go into Desert Search. It sounds REALLY good, has no noise at all, but that totally turned me off honestly. Once I get my first press in I'll compare the two.
Great video!! Faith No More was also on Slash Records in the UK, makes sense. I imported the CD into the UK in 1995 when it wasn't released over here, also bought a Disco Volante tshirt (album cover on the front, the disco volante script on the bottom rear) when they played here in early 96.
This is a great video! Super informative. It would be super interesting to see a similar video about the S/T Bungle record. The S/T has a picture disc release and standard Warner Brothers release from '91 as well as the mediocre Plain release and another reissue by a label known as Music On Vinyl which, from what I've heard, is much better than the Plain reissue.
Really enjoyed this video, Nate. I have the Music On Vinyl pressing of Disco Volante on clear vinyl. It is numbered and has a WB label. Any opinions of that?
Hey there, no I haven't heard it. I'd be keen to know about how it lays out the "Carry Stress/Secret Song" sequence and whether "Platypus" is on side B. If those are there, I suspect they too used a CD as the master.
@@TheVinylGuide Carry Stress/Secret Song is one long track (only listed as 4:44 long on the label), and no Platypus on side B. Sound quality pretty good, but I'd love to get an original.
Still got my WB copy 👳 could never sell it on . . Mr bungle is classic , also still have a copy of first Lp in a numbered picture disc . Still un-opened and shrink wrapped . A thing of beauty .
I’ve never heard of this parallel groove thing before this. That is so rad! I have California and the original self titled record on vinyl but not this one and it makes me with i did. So… *ahem*… groovy.
The video compares the original 1995 edition and the reprint of plain recordings. Plain recordings is not a European record label, plain recordings comes from the USA. There is another version of the label Music on Vinyl, and this comes from Europe. I think this version is by far the best version. I own all 3 versions
Agreed 100%. I sold-off my Plain Recordings version the same week I purchased it - what a joke of a pressing!! The MOV/Music On Vinyl pressing is a revelation - what a pristine, punchy soundstage with just the right amount of ambient analogue presence..... it is GLORIOUS!!!
@thevinylguide congrats for such a great and Informative video. I happen to own a DV vinyl copy which doesn't seem to be any of those described in your video and I was wondering whether is a WB reissue or a european copy. In my copy, (which is a transparent vinyl btw) the artwork has not as pristine definition as the original (a bit darker as in the EU copy) but it does have the separate inlay with the lyrics and the WB logo on it. It reads " Music on Vinyl"on a sticker as well. Any thoughts, anyone? Appreciated.
Thanks for the video, love Mr Bungle. MOV did their self titled and California if I'm not mistaken and both sound great. I think most vinyl people already know this but if they don't, I'll say it again. Don't buy ANYTHING on the PLAIN label !!!!
The reissue of Disco Volante i got sounds great but it doesn't have "Platypus". What the fuck? The first album reissue has 2 albums with one side blank. why wasn't this done for this is the question i assume most people are asking.
Whats the big difference from cd? I mean nowdays all vinyl pressings are mp3 transfer, transfer from Master tapes was done until 80s maybe early 90s and thats it, any vinyl after that is a rip off
Now, Ipecac have finally released all 3 Bungle LPs in a box-set. Have not purchased yet (seems obscenely expensive to me, but I know I will buckle eventually). If it actually sounds better than the MOV/Music On Vinyl pressing, I will be shocked (and happy, obviously!), as that pressing is just stellar. PLAIN recordings sucks. NEVER support them. And they're not European - they're a 'proud' USA company. Just the worst.
The MOV reprints all sound fantastic to me. Plain Recordings sucks. They are also American and not European Plain Recordings 101 Glacier Point, Ste. C San Rafael, CA 94901
Nate, you are a saint. Thanks for taking the time on this and everything you do.
I had that wb 95 dv vinyl. Really the best way to hear the record
Nevermind, someone had already mentioned this copy below. Thanks!
I Will gladly get the Ipecac version when available as well as all the other albums.
I picked up the original Warner Bros LP soon after it was released and the mastering was quite bad. The only plus side was the bonus 7-inch.
Damn, I recently ordered a music is vinyl reissue of California and am now scared I might get a crummy sounding presing.
This could really use a 2xLP reissue

Why wasn't this album (and the self-titled debut) pressed over two discs anyways? That's not uncommon these days.
What about the ‘Music on Vinyl, release? I have that one and it sounds very good to me. Thank you for this video, it was very informative
The MOV pressing sounds much better than the plain recordings! I don’t have the OG press unfortunately
I have MOV self titled and California but nothing to compare them too

This channel is underrated.
Super excellent video, thanks for all the info.
Any update for the new 2LP reissues?
Great episode! You should do a segment on the Mi Stoke 7” o
It does come with an insert, www.pattonmad.com/Mr%20Bungle/Pages/MrBungleDiscoVolanteLPUK.html

Nope, not "all pressings". Some, but def. not all.
Nice! But does that really look like the union flag to you?
🥰🥰🥰
Isssh,got the wrong one.
I bought the disco volante reissue from Europe...yup is SUCKED....pawned it
