    Guys - Speaking as a non American who actually follows America politics. Please don't that American lefty thing of underplaying the guy because he didn't give you all you wanted. If you look at the bills he's passed (Infrastructure Bills, Chips act, Student Loans, Leadership on Ukraine war, 80Bil for the Federal reserve so rich folks actually pay taxes e.t.c. e.t.c.) - The guy has arguably accomplished more in 2 years than Obama did in 4
    I say 2 years because following the House flip to republicans, he can't actually pass anything worthwhile - literally.
    Given the challenges he's faced he's measured but firm/empathic approach to ruling he might be the best president you've had in a hundred years. There's a reason the likes of AOC, Bernie Sanders and others aren't running against him, they recognize this. So please for the sake of the rest of the world - Don't the American thing!

      As an American, I can tell you that some of us actually live in reality and know that you are correct. Unfortunately, 20%-30% of us are crazy Trump cultists, and there's a significant fraction of the left who hate the folks on the center-left who are closest to their own views even more than they hate the far right; because they think it gives them political cred. They will never be able to comprehend that peaceful political progress is only ever achieved through incrementalism. Yeah I understand the sentiment of being disappointed with Democrats, but their problem is they're also too conservative on all the economic issues. Our furthest left politician in 2020 elections had tax proposals more than 5x to the RIGHT of Nixon. We're always going to be disappointed if 'that' is labeled our 'far left'.
      No matter how much I disagree or get disappointed with Democrats...what the heck could make any sane person think even further right is going to work in its last 50 years of never working.
      Personally I think it's just because so many working class people are suffering. The separation of wealth right now is worse than it was at the top of the great depression. It's worse than France when Marie said to let them eat cake. People who are suffering and desperate are more likely to fall into cults, more likely to listen to anyone who has any sort of proposed solution no matter how obviously not true. When we had a middle class people didn't fall for this hate filled far right stuff as easily.

      Eh... I do think something could be done about that with some lateral thinking. Like, they could just choose to destroy the money. The government destroys money all the time (and I don't mean that as a cynical figure of speech).
      Or, if it's such a large amount that it's vital the money re-enters the economy, just hire contractors to build the wall with a contract that specifies that if construction doesn't start before the next election, the contractors no longer have to do the work they were hired to do, but the government then owes them the full amount they would have received if they did do the work. And then... just never start construction.
      Or, if that's too fraudulent for the law, see what you can do within the legal definition of the border wall. Is it still considered the border wall if it's just high enough to prevent fairy penguins from crossing the border? Or if it were made of Jello? Are gold bullions a valid construction material?

    I specifically watched this video because I disagree w/ CTG’s political thinking, and I wanted to hear why someone who thinks differently than I do give their reasoning for why Biden is so unpopular. I hate to think the final reasoning is correct.
    That said, let’s back up and consider the fact that neither Trump nor Biden accomplished most of what they promised. Instead of accepting that as a humiliation, Trump just went to his old standby and lied bigly, literally claiming to have kept more promises than he even made. I thought this was overboard rhetoric to troll the left, but when I talked to very intelligent co-workers who were Trump voters, they repeated this line in all sincerity. I had to remind them that he hadn’t replaced Obamacare, hadn’t created a flat tax, hadn’t restored the coal industry, hadn’t built a wall w/ Mexico’s money - all of which they were shocked to remember were promises that they had been seriously excited about! It was like they had forgotten what they’d been promised - some 🐘s, amirit?
    But back to the final point - CTG literally contrasted Biden’s tendency to need to walk back statements in the interest of careful nuance with the Strongman approach of doubling down on ignorance seen from Trump…
    …and half of America is literally siding with that.
    This is a crisis of education. A crisis of critical thinking. A crisis of recognizing the patterns of history. We would call the Bullies, the Trolls, the Class Clowns to be our leaders, and plug our ears to the Peacemakers, the Scientists, and the Philosophers - out of boredom.
    This speaks volumes of where we are as a country.

    Here is why Biden is not doing better, he's an extremely poor speaker. I know he is a stutterer and that has weighed against him. He needs a class in public speaking. He needs to enunciate more clearly and bring up his volume. When he was the VP, I don't have a single recollection of a speech he made. Biden's VP is also not a great public speaker. Obama was a great public speaker and it won him the white house twice. Clearly Trump hated Obama because he was such an articulate public speaker. Trump is a poor public speaker, he rambles and is dull witted but he is loud and forceful. That is all his uneducated crowd needs. Trump is mimicking Hitler's cadence.

    We're talking about polls here. How are polls taken? You call people up at random on a landline and ask their opinion. Let me ask you, fair viewer: what do you do when you get a call from an unrecognized number? Do you even own a landline? If you got a call from a mysterious number, and it turned out to be someone who wanted fifteen minutes of your time to ask you a bunch of questions about politics: do you have time to do that?
    You know who does? Your racist uncle who ruins Thanksgiving. He also wants any avenue to express his opinions on how great Trump is.

      the polls in 2016 didn't have hillary "destroying" trump. in early november 2015 she was only 2 points ahead of trump, at the same time 4 years later biden was polling 8 points ahead of trump. because of the way our electoral college is rigged to favor republicans (due to both an inadequate house member cap and the republican slant of the senate), any democrat needs to beat the republican in the popular vote by at least 3 points - biden won by +4.5%, hillary only got +2.1%. polls incorrectly predicted a high *likelihood* of hillary winning based on her consistently staying ahead of trump in the polls, but failed to account for the narrow margin by which she was ahead, and how much the electoral college eats into that margin in favor of republicans.

    Republicans, may lose, but they keep fighting, they have fought for 50 years to overturn Roe, and slowly they chipped at it and the Voting rights act, they've achieved almost both. So, keep expecting things to get done and change just because one guy takes over the Whitehouse. Remember We had a 50-50 senate and a slim majority in the House, so compromises had to be done. I'm gonna open some old wounds with this comment, but what is wrong with the Democratic Party?
    In 2020, one of the candidates was Bernie _Sanders._ I took a look at his platform and found that he had the stand _I_ wanted on every single _issue._ I also took a look at _Biden's_ platform and found the position I wanted on _most_ issues.
    To use the famous metaphor, Sanders was my _ceiling,_ and all the other candidates I took for the _floor._ That is, every single one of them was someone I would've voted for _just_ on the basis of the fact that they were not _T*._ No other reason.
    Now why did Biden secure the _nomination?_ By having better _policies_ than Sanders? No. By having better _ideas_ than Sanders? No. In fact, his policies and ideas did not _compete_ with those of Sanders. He secured the nomination by securing more and better _endorsements._ _That's_ how.
    Endorsements? Seriously? So we're not electing people based on their _ideas,_ but based on how much _other_ people like them? We're voting for candidates based on who the _cool_ kids vote for? We are letting _other_ people determine our votes instead of determining them _ourselves?_ Does _no_ one else see how _undemocratic_ that is?

    • @matthewtaylor3347

      To add a little to this. What really put Biden over the edge was Obama calling the likes of kloubechar and buttegieg before super Tuesday and getting them to drop out. Doing that combined all the status quo votes to Biden. Bernie as leading big before Super Tuesday after all.

    • @shawnsmolk9314
      @shawnsmolk9314 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      But here's the thing. First, Bernie is technically an Independent, the Dems didn't keep him from running, he could have run on his own. As much as you and I love Bernie and his policies, he is way too far left for a lot of people and it was imperative that we had a candidate to go against trump that wasn't so far left. Finally, age has been an issue for Biden (80) and Bernie (82) is even older.

    • @johnmckinnon420
      @johnmckinnon420 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So free speech is undemocratic? Volunteers who go door to door for a candidate are endorsing someone. Maybe you don't want friends or relatives to vote for someone just because you endorse them. That's fine. Would you say that if Bernie had been endorsed by well known politicians and talking heads? Just wondering😊.

      @@shawnsmolk9314 First, so what you're saying is that the crowd saw that the crowd was following Biden. Thus, the crowd followed Biden. He was popular because he was _popular._ That is exactly what I was just _complaining_ about, here. He did a better job of playing the _popularity_ game than actually building a solid _platform._
      Second, politicians with a platform like Sanders have _no_ trouble getting elected across the _rest_ of the democratic world. Look at Canada. Look at Latin America. Look at Europe and Australia. Why should they have less traction _here?_ Are we _really_ so different?
      Third, of course, Biden and Sanders were each a bit younger in 2020, but there are _other_ elected officials in the US with these same principles. AOC, for example.
      But forth, note that my objection is not to _which_ candidate won, but _how._

    This has always been the modern Democrat Party problem. They are largely conservatives with some social war issues. They don't want to disrupt the status quo - so aren't really invested in helping the working class - so are always in the balancing act to not do anything that might lose center right "independent" voters instead of disrupting the status quo and fighting for the marginalized/working class with progressive policies. How is someone supposed to be excited by an old man with center right policies. Obama could mask his centrist views with youth, identity and slogans at least. Biden has none of that.
