Good to see a Convoy being reviewed as Convoys are practically all I buy these days. Haven't bought anything from Banggood since early 2020.
I've bought two already an s2+ and a t3. You really can't beat them at that price point. And the build quality is still great.
What really makes convoy a winner is the fact that you can easily tear it appart and parts are also being sold. I always wanted a quad light but refreined on buying any quads because it's difficult to modify and parts are hard to find. Good thing that convoy finally did a quad EDC. Lol

Very nice tint and flood light! I also like the 12 different mode settings from convoy.
The SOS is actually battery check. 5 blinks means ~full.

My favourite emitter is still the E21a 4500k.
You should try the Convoy m21f with the Gt fc40 4000k emitter, it has a nice beam, suitable for outdoor use.
Indeed, the best colour reproduction was with the E21A out of the four lights used.

I almost got this light but settled for the less expensive S21B. Didn't want to spend too much for my 1st try at the 519a.

Very wise strategy.
I bought the S21B as well but sadly it was with a smooth reflector. It seems that 519a begs for a wide TIR or orange peel reflector.
Took it out at ~19 deg Celsius and at 100% it got hot AF. Imagine this emitter in the smaller S2+. Definitely wouldn't wanna be using it at 5-6 amps.
@@Thrael72008 I immediately replaced the reflector with an OP one. I can't tell if it made much of a difference.
How much is the price difference?
@@nickb5091 Not much. Different flashlights anyway. This one's a very inexpensive quad compared to Emisar, Fireflies, Astrolux, etc.

I tried a 3000k 219b and didn't appreciate how much of a difference high (98) CRI makes. It looks substantially different to Cree 3000k.
How picky is this thing with batteries, and will it take protected batteries?
Hi Flashaholic, how does this compare to the S12 and which would you choose if you could choose one? Against the S21D would be heat and also reported tint shift (4.5k->4K). S12 should throw further, get less hot, but the S21D should have a much smoother beam due to TIR lens. Usage case would be general everyday. Thanks for any insight!

@@FLASHAHOLIC_TV Even on big budget stuff I could see this being utilized as extra lighting in a situation where it was impossible to hide a traditional light fixture or squeeze it into place that requires super compact lights. Would you recommend something similar to this or is this the best Nichia LED light of its size?

Sorry to use this review but would love if you could make a review of the new Sofirn C8L and perhaps compare it with other throwers like if22a, Wurkkos TS30S, or even with a if25a since even though it's a flooder it still can throw quite well(I have one if25a already). I only found one reviewer that did some testing but I think you could do a better job😉 I'm planning to buy a versatile thrower and I'm trying to find some comparison between the Wurkkos TS30S and this Sofirn C8L. (I know they have different lumens but for what I saw the C8L does a similar job as the Urkkos just want to check how much of a difference in brightness side by side at a long distance 200m+) Thank you!

@@FLASHAHOLIC_TV For what I've seen they made the perfect balance between a thrower and flooder with the 8CL it also increased lumens to 3100lm. Would love to see it side by side with the more powerful Wurkkos TS30S as they looked quite similar in other reviews even having double the lumens of the C8L.
For stabilization,long usage on high mode; get C8L, for instant lumen burst,anduril, compactness, get TS21.
How would this be for dog walking? How fast does it get hot on the middle modes?
I know you said high gets hot pretty quickly but what about the other levels?
i have a s2+ 519a 4500k 5amp, 10% mode for walking is ok, 35% would be enough. or you can choose mode with 50% as max.

My next light will have a 519. Either the 21d for dog walking or a T3 for EDC.
Just got in the Convoy S21d with 519a at 4500k. Form factor is nice and led is nice....but if I had to do it over again it may be with the 30 degree beam spread.....as 60 is too wide. This flashlight gets hot fast so prefer the cree leds at 5000k to this one for general use.

@@hardhittaa Actually approaching 6-6.5 k is white/blue. And tints vary. I own Osram P9 flashlights and they are white/blue and very efficient. Best one I own is the Wuben E10.....very useful for everyday use. This convoy 21d is similar to my Wuben TO46R but again perfer the Wuben and uses the nichia 219 led around 4500k.

@@SodiumSyndicate well, I have a 219b as well, this does not nearly get as hot even at 100%. I now think it is the 519a that simply runs too hot
@@TheRasalhaag I think that is true of high CRI LEDs in general - they are not efficient & produce more heat - but then they are all about the quality of the tint & not the lumen per watt output efficiency.

Another good one is Convoy M21A with SFT40.
Nice light, but the UI seems a bit complicated.
After the initial setup where you choose your group mode, the UI is extremely simple. You just half click to cycle through modes. I have 10 convoy’s, and I still find getting into group selection mode kind of a pain though.

@@DinnerForkTongue the set up isn’t that bad. I find that I have a tendency to accidentally full click when I’m rapidly half-clicking, or I’ll see that the lights out and stop clicking only to find that I’m in battery check mode instead of setup. Nothing that’s preventing me from completing setup, but it’s irritating when I have to make several attempts for these reasons.
By comparison, even though Anduril 2 is more complex, I find it much easier to work with.

Not a UI Simon (convoy owner) has tried before. He designs his own drivers and lots of people prefer simple UIs but hopefully he'll give it try in the future.
That 20-tap config makes my brain hurt. Sometimes I accidentally press fully on the 20th and ofc... I start over again.

This is what I did to mine.
I found out that one of the dome came off so I decided to dedome all of them. The throw improved significantly. I actually like it more now. Lol
