So if they don’t do what you say, what do you do?
Sometimes when I countdown, students countdown with me and feel even more exited like happy new year everyone countdown together?😅(.kindergarten class)

That's a good question. Try to use their energy. They are following you. If you make noise, so will they.
Tell them "If we are at 1, you have to be very quiet." Start at 5 and get quieter as you countdown. Have them follow you. Say "1" is a whisper tone and wait.
      Hope that helps!

@@NativeEnglishTeachers , I have an idea!, try to trick them by you saying that you're the sports teacher and then when they go out to the gym, say: JUST KIDDING! And then everybody will go back to their seats! I also subscribed your channel to see your reply.

Ah okay let’s say I use these methods ! They might calm down for 5 minutes and then .. again !!!
There’s never really a way around this !!
The only days they are quiet is when they come to class after PE lesson 😂
When they are done running, they get tired and calm down !

Thanks but most of them are just for kids or very young learners. How to make teenagers quiet

    • @NativeEnglishTeachers

Hello, thanks for your question. 01:24 Count Down can work for teenagers as well as not talking when your students are talking, until they quiet down. Also the last part of how to set up clear classroom procedures would apply to all ages. For teenagers, you can also try the NOISE method, where you write the letters NOISE on the board and erase one letter at a time starting from E. They have to be quiet before the last letter is erased or there is a penalty eg. late recess etc. However, setting up clear classroom procedures should always be the first step. Hope that helps!

Be a cooler person (in the eyes of the kids)
Learn the ancient game of nim. Use it as a reward for work done.

My students if I keep quiet they may enjoy 45 minutes of talking without you interrupting them

Sorry to hear that :( It sounds like you’re trying your best and I hope you can find a method that works for your classroom 💓
Different kids may need different strategies - see if you can identify what is causing their behavioural problem. How do you deliver classroom instruction?
Do they need a different lesson plan or activities that help keep their attention?. You can check out our lesson planning video to look into that.
We’ll try to come up with a part 2 with more classroom management strategies soon :)

Some of them, but not all 😆 countdown or not talking when they were talking worked for my college students when I was teaching in mainland China. It may depend on the personality of your class. Giving clear instructions as well as having a good lesson plan also helps a lot- we have a new video on lesson planning coming out this weekend. Feel free to check it out! :)
