This is so true! One of the afternoon teachers has started giving a few of my students who are currently potty training and M&M every time they go to the potty. I tried asking her to please not do this because I’ve noticed that a couple of them are saying they went to the potty when they actually haven’t just to get an M&M. I also asked her to please try to not do that because I want them to realize that going to the bathroom is something everybody does and when you get to be a big kid, you just do it. No one else is getting a prize for going potty. That was something I stuck with with my own kids too. And they both were potty trained very quickly. One thing I know I for sure need to work on is expecting them to understand things. I’ve had to really slow down and simplify what I’m saying and make sure that it’s clear to them and I’m not just talking like one of the grown-ups on Charlie Brown. Lol
I’m new to childcare. I’m on my 3rd week and my BIGGEST struggle is to get them to clean up. I found that I ended up cleaning the whole classroom myself because they have looked at me and said I don’t want to clean up and I had no idea how to respond to that
It’s funny because before the school year ended I was determined not to use stickers anymore. It was becoming so distracting and some, like you said, didn’t care. Maybe you have a video already, but I would love some tips for how to use the treasure box or incentives ideas. Thank you for the video.
I'm the teacher of beginner classroom. All alone. No helping hands. Specially after p.m snack they started running inside classroom. Even though I am saying walking feet.
Changing your classroom around to where they have less space to run and remind them that they can get an ouwe if they keep running sometimes you may need to let them learn the lesson the hard way and you use it as an example of why we use feet
I'm stating a new job as a 3yr old teacher. I will have 13. Im coming from teaching first graders and homeschooling my kids. What is the best way to get routine and procedures down? I've been told they don't have any structure going on in the classroom and they are really hoping I can bring that in.
Thank you for the video. I wish it would help me to set out my classroom. Could you pls give any tips to what reinforcements teachers can give to follow the classroom rules with the stubborn kids?
One thing that has worked for me in the past is really investing time in the child, getting to know them. Once they get to know you their "wall" starts to come down and you are able to ask them to do things without a lot of push back. Sorry for the last response. I hope things are working out.
My problem is that even when we discuss the expectations every day, some still refuse to do as they are asked. Cleaning up a center is a struggle for me, as the children often times refuse under any circumstance to clean up.
Since I don't know the specifics- perhaps changing the environment so there are fewer items for them to take out and not clean up also, review by teaching, demonstrating, and practicing as much as needed- want to brainstorm look me up on ig and dm
I'm a new father looking to help my daughter get better at learning. Help her teacher , actually teach my very stubborn child. And I now have many ideas on how to make my home a better learning environment. Good start. Thank you. I'll be in touch through our progress. I needed help thank you for doing what you do in this forum.
thanks for the content. My director is telling me that I need to shout at the children to get them pay attention. But when I use my strategy with a song or pick a color of clothing, they pay attention. Should I try to shout any way. I just don't like that because I think it is unnecessary.
Hello, sorry I am just now seeing this. I hope things are going smoothly for you. Think about all the things they will have to do during the day and then think about how do you want them to do those things in the safest way. Then you will introduce and teach those steps. I do hope you check out my other video about teaching procedures as well. That breaks it down further. Good luck!
What if there is no ample space for running but enough resources and still sometimes kids run. Also, they stack the toys and keep throwing them. My TA is mostly busy with toilets so when am doing focused activity, the rest of the children are roaming here and there and sometimes fighting over a toy. Whats the best environment with pre K in classroom? Should they be sitting and playing calmlt all the day? if not, How to manage with TA?
Excuse the delay, I am just seeing this. Check out my other videos about working with a partner, introducing materials and procedures. Your TA should be encouraged to do more than just "the bathrooms". Also go back and audit your expectations, routines and procedures and figure out where the "break down" in understanding is coming from.
Just about to start and my co teacher doesn't want to label shelves and toys because we are once a week in a rented space and will have to much time setting up and cleaning up. Also, the time and cost in printing and laminating labels.
I have the PreK class from hell. We review the rules every day to no avail. They’re loud, don’t clean up when told, they cannot sit on circle carpet to save their lives. They tattle, name call, hit, break each other’s center builds. They will make eye contact with me and then smile as they do exactly what I told them not to. When I’m in charge, even the good kids start to act bad. It’s just to effing much for me 😞
I am so sorry to hear about the struggles you are having in your class. The first year (or two) is usually the hardest until you get your bearings. I've been there myself and it always looks and feels hopeless when you're in the middle of it. I hope that your administrators will be able to get you the hands-on help you need. Feel free to DM me on IG to discuss this further and maybe we can come up with a plan or next steps that could alleviate some of these concerns.
I started in infant room , i did great but I wanted to try preschool and thought id take control easily. Big fail. My director was not well with me because they did not at all listen. So she moved me back to infant 😢 very discouraging
You just exactly described my class also. One of my children is the owner’s child, and they are becoming super aggressive to the rest of the kids. Climbing on top of them, shoving, hitting, pinching.
I mean it kinda sucks for that last one because kids can be arguing because they just want to argue over a toy. Like we have magnetiles and we want to get them out but it’s so hard because they don’t know how to share even though they have a ton of other toys to play with. And even though we can show are kids how to be quiet or use our level 1 voices and tell them. 2 minutes later they be loud again. At some points I think our room is hopeless.
aww....I wouldn't say hopeless. Maybe it's a matter of teaching and demonstrating to them "how" to share-like what it looks like or maybe teaching and demonstrating to them what it looks like to "take turns"...if you'd like to brainstorm ideas- please reach out to me in the Dm's on IG. 🙂
@@yourco-teacherms.celeste5530 or just come and teach our kids. We already are about to have to have a kid be sent home and be sent back with medication. Like he can’t come back with out being medicated. And we’ve told them how to take turns. Even by making centers. Nothing works. Giving more options Nah that don’t work. I’m just waiting for these kids to go so I can get the next batch 🥹😂 that sounds mean but I want new kids. Like I’ve been bitten scratched clawed choked. You name it. I’ve wanted to quit. But I keep going. I just haven’t found anything that works. We need like a real professional

“Don’t assume they understand your directions….Demonstrate it …..” I love this so much. So much great advice here!
Thank you! It's an easy mistake to make, we all do it.
I want to be a preschool teacher so bad and these were all helpful tips thank you!

Hey there! check out the video on my channel about clean-up time. It has tips in there to make clean-up time fun. Have a wonderful school year!
I announce their name that they are cleaning. Example….I like the way Sarah is cleaning. Everyone wants to hear their name.
SO helpful for new preschool teachers! I used to give out stickers when teaching...LOL! I will do better! ❤ "tip toe like a quiet cat!" - genius!
It's a trap most of us fall in. Thank you!

The first commentor on your question had a great idea! Sorry for the delay, I am just seeing this. I hope things worked out.
I had an aide and things were great, then she quit and they still haven’t found someone to take her place. Now things are a mess.
These are excellent ideas for problem solving in the pre-school world. Great job!
thank you!
Thank you so much. I am looking into becoming a preschool teacher and this is so helpful!

That sounds like an interesting set-up, I've never heard of that before.
It is a homeschooling coop and we are teaching the 3 year olds. It was to be babysitting, but we wanted to do so much more.
🙏🤍🐑Thank you.

There are some children who is not responding to anything. How to deal with them
Sorry for the delay, I am just now seeing this. By "anything" what do you mean? What have you tried? Sometimes you have to try things more than once.
How to speed up their written work...
What do you do when you have a student who screams words during circle time? He's 5, he can talk by his age range, he used to have selective mutism. The parents aren't cooperative and say he doesn't scream at home.
Are they inappropriate words? Is it disruptive? Are you able to contiune without acknowledging it?
Yup, not a fun of stickers. It causes too much issues 🤣 they can use stickers to do art, it helps with fine motor but definitely not as a reward.
I have a classroom that has a loud echo and the color is not soothing there’s a skylight and the walls are like a bright peachy color I have no clue why they would paint that color
Oh my! I hope you are able to make it work. My last classroom had a skylight- I got used to it (like I had a choice-lol).
