As soon as you hear the cleverly choreographed and psychologically emotional interviewer at 1:45 ask Jeb about his crash in a low-tone, soft, gentle, and emotionally-charged voice insinuating how close Jeb Corliss was to death at Cape Town, you know it is time to stop this video and leave it. Base Jumpers can do what-ever they want, just don't tell the rest of us that they have "big balls" and "courage", no matter how "spectacular" or "courageous" their close-to-ground flights look on the internet for shocked and enthralled viewers. Millions of men died in World War One thinking the same thing about "courage" and "big balls". A flight like the one at the start of this video is spectacular and reasonably safe, because he keeps his distance from the rocks. Pilots of aircraft keep their airplanes a reasonable distance from the ground or cliffs or mountains for the same reasons, so they don't hit them due to mis-judgement, sudden air currents, or failure of control surfaces. The Go-Pro Helmet Cam Company knows that young adult males are easily convinced on false presumptions of what courage and daring is, which is why their opening advertising sequence involves stirring, emotionally-charged, and deathly serious music and the photos of black, menacing deathly serious-looking helmets, a helmet may protect you on a bicycle or motorcycle, it ain't gonna protect anyone during a collision with a cliff at 300 km / 200 km an hour, or even half that speed. As I say, do what you want, just don't tell everyone else that Base Jumping where you skim close to the ground involves "courage, daring, and that immaturely childish phrase "big balls".

If you want to get money as a Pilot you need to fly save but if you want to get money as a Base jumper you need to fligh critical i Think the real Problem are capitalistic company's like red Bull and to the word warr Peepel like Graf von Staufenberg have Big Nuggets because he was nearly Hitler killing with a bomb ( it was close but it didnt Kill him ) and After this staufenberg and his members was Killed by the Narzis . I love all these people saying that its stupid of him to continue BASE jumping after this incident, or to BASE jump in general. Apparently they would rather do nothing with their life and live longer than do what they love and risk possibly dying sooner but the way i see it is that there's no point in being alive if you aren't doing something you love. I'm not saying everyone has to go out and BASE jump, but at least Jeb is doing something he loves. If you have a passion, no matter what it is, and you can find a way to make enough money to support yourself off it, then you too can do what you like to do. So just because you don't share the same passions as Jeb doesn't mean he shouldn't do what he does.

    • @nateb4485

Exactly, Jeb learned in rehab that he regretted letting his fear slip away, NOT flying. Thats why he returned as soon as he was able, because he would have been miserable in life if he had to stop doing what he loved. People don't understand that because most people never find something like that in life, because most people are to afraid to take risks.

It’s easy to say you wouldn’t do it again if you don’t actually play any sports. During recovery the only thing on athletes’ minds is getting back on the court/field. Fear of re-injury is a factor, but the feeling of playing again overwhelms that fear. I imagine this feeling is amplified with the adrenaline rush that comes with this sport.

Mentally i was shocked, traumatized and most importantly i started feeling fear again and since that day i've become much less reckless and now realize how dangerous these sports are. I broke my leg in ten places (amongst other fractures) in a m/c crash. I was in a wheel chair for a year. As soon as I could stand the bike up, I decided I needed better skills and took it to the racetrack. I took motorcycle mags with me while I waited in the waiting and exam rooms. They gave me $hit about it.

True. but there arent too many more exciting ways to live. Death comes for us all. but a few of us ever truely live. This man has shown outstanding courage, not to jump off of cliffs, which takes its own courage, but the courage to experience setbacks and hardship and still continue to rise and persist. For those who would come here and troll his lifestyle, his sponsors, or his descion making skills I challenge you to take an honest look in the mirror. I guaruntee, if you have something negative to say, you'll find it in your refelction.

@@davidm3maniac201 I have watched his documentary "Fearless" and I am aware of his condition and early mental state. Those things only stand to increase the difficulty of his life and also the heroic effort and will power it took to live in spite of those situations. Parents, and thier financial status, brings to light the point that even in "upper class" society people suffer from the same problems as those in the middle and lower classes. Money isn't everything. And if you doubt that fact do some research on lottery winners and look at how many of them end up dead or homeless soon after "winning".
This man is an example of what we as people should focus on in life. Living a fully enjoyed life with an emphasis on the connections made with other people, without judging others, and without the baggage of regret.
