    We once had a journalist here in Australia called Wilfred Thomas who was a bass barytone and decided to study opera in England in the days before aeroplane flights and when you had to stop at Suez in Egypt and if you had enough time you could visit the famous ancient sites. This is when the famous tomb of the pharaoh Tutankhamun had been discovered in the Valley of the Kings -he actually sang the invocation to Isis and Osiris from the "Magic Flute" in the very tomb of Tutankhamun. Must have been amazing.

      Thank you so much for this very interesting insight Kalo. Wow, wish I had been a fly on the wall when this happened, it must have been truly magical! 😯

    Greetings, I am from Mauritius island, studying in Opera Germany in a music conservatoire; Hochschule für Musik. Last year I was in the opera The Magic Flute, and played the role Sarastra. I must say that at your age, I was not capable of doing what you did. Today, I am quite pleased with my work. With time, one learns and improves. I am sure you will grow up into a wonderful singer as well. My advise is to make reference to old classical singers. (Avoid the modern ones. Please be careful) Some of the singers I would recommend to you are; Ezio Pinza (for technique - watch his vibrato for O isis und Osiris), Marcel Journet (for placement), and Boris Christoff (for style/interpretation). Wish you all the best.

      Dear Avishing, thank you so very much for your kind comments and very good advise. Mathias's song teacher, also a former professional Bel Canto opera singer, agrees very much to the names you suggested, and Mathias will be studying them carefully. Thank you again. PS. We looked at your Sarastro performance from last year, it was fantastic! (although this was the first time we hear this in the French language). 😍👏👏

    You can be very proud - it´s not only the beautiful voice, it´s about feeling it, what makes good music. He has a lot of musicality
    and triggers feelings in the listener.

      Thank you so much Bill. The lower range takes a lot of practice, and does also provide the base for the higher range as well. Hopefully, and expectedly, the voice will be even more powerful when he grows older, especially in the lower range. 🙂

    The performance room is too "live" for me to hear how Svein would sound in a hall.
    I noticed he took a breath after singing the verb "Shenket". Shouldn't shenket be connected to "der Weis - heit Geist ...etc?

      Thank you for very good feedback Wayne. Yes, this was performed inside an old church with stone walls, and as such, the accustics could be a bit much to hear some of the details in his voice production. But performing inside a church has its own characteristics and moods. You are probably right about the verb connections, but assume this is a trade-off with the flow of the music, though it can be improved for sure. 🙂

    I found here something rare and good example of Zarastro - this is on of the great Bulgarian basses Mihail Popov - the recording is really rare and sounds very good as an example of In diese hailigen hallen - he sings in Bulgarian, but still: th-cam.com/video/hIzcuFTNrQg/w-d-xo.html

    • @sveintollefsen1448
      @sveintollefsen1448  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thank you very much. We do actually think it was more "strained" before". He is very hung up in a lot of technical details for the BelCanto voice production, but this time was actually the first time where he really let it all go, and "unstrained" himself. The result was pretty good, and he was actually awarded the Gold Prize from the World Classical Music Awards competition for this performance just recently. 🙂

    Find som good opera singer for a master class!

    • @sveintollefsen1448
      @sveintollefsen1448  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thank you. His daily teacher is actually a former international opera singer, specialising in the Bel canto technique. He has also been to several master classes already, the last one recently with the former international soprano star Solveig Kringlebotn. Very inspirational and educational, although, he also found that different experts teach different techniques, and sometimes contradictary, so eventually it is about picking the best from everyone and find and perfectionate the style that best fit your abilities and goals. ☺

      Thank you again, and yes, you are absolutely right. Mathias has watched and listened to Laslo Polgar several times when he was practising "O Isis und Osiris", and also other arias from the same opera. Right now he is preparing the other Sarastro aria "In diesen heil'gen Hallen", which he will perform with a local symphony orchestra here in Norway in 3 weeks time. Laslo Polgar was a fantastic singer!

      @@sveintollefsen1448 Good luck!!! Polgar`s way of singing is the best amongst the basses. The voice goes free, like a wide river. No tension. The might of the bass is in the voice itself, there is no mightier voice than bass. "Just let it go as the wide river flows".

    • @sveintollefsen1448
      @sveintollefsen1448  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Yes, you are so right. His teacher always encourages him to learn from the true masters, and Polgar is really such a master. Mathias practices almost every day the techniques of free air flow and relaxed jaw with no tension, as you refer to. He made a breakthough on this when he performed the O Isis aria in this video clip, and all of a sudden, the sound became so much more complete. 😇

      @sveintollefsen1448  20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you for very good advise inputs Mohammed, they are much appreciated. Wereas German is not Bjørn Mathias' first language, he has done some specific training to get the right pronunciation, but not quite there yet, as you correctly observed. Regarding singing technicque, you are also absolutely corrrect, and he practices this every day with his vocal teachers, former professional opera singers themselves, and now, some 15 months later, progress has been considerable. Thanks again. 🙂
