I really enjoyed this video. I'm glad you left most of the analysis and thought process portion in the video, rather than just cutting it out and skipping to the pruning

I am not a green thumb and have never even thought about bonsai but somehow I’ve stumbled upon your channel. I am loving just listening and watching you work. I’m am always amazed at how I physically feel at the start of your video chaotic and unable to predict where you are going. The look of the trees slowly go from this chaos to peace and beauty and with the change in the tree I start to feel that peace.
It’s like visual meditation.

Peter, what an interesting video. I have at home an old book of yours, where you are a young man in a big blue jumper with "I❤bonsai" on it..I still refer to the book from time to time - just for enjoyment reading.

Your videos are very inspiring. Today I went to the nursery and picked up a Dwarf Spruce tree for $10.00 US. I've been following your directions and went to town with the snippers. I'm very happy with my results so far. I just need to get some wire now.

Great video as always Peter, funny many of the cuts I thought you did so I guess I leaned something from watching you. Less is more and it's always hard to chop away but remember the more you cut away the bigger the trunk looks and that is the point right?

Hello I am a new subscriber and I want to thank you because watching you work with these trees and shrubs has made me much braver working on my Japanese Maples. I have one with canopy 20 feet long and about 6 foot high. I was so afraid to touch it, but now I crawled under it and removed so much dead. I still have trouble "seeing" the tree I want, but I am no longer afraid! Thank you for inspiring me. I'm 62 and crawling under trees!! 😍

I really hope you can come back to this tree in the fall. I would love to see its progression. One of the things I find very often, is demonstrations are very inspiring, but getting to see the same works much later on, maybe even in stages of say, 6 month intervals, would be VERY helpful. Very few people come back to works months later to show you the development, and how to deal with it as it continues...Really liked this video Mr. Chan. Because one of the hardest things I am trying to get past, is seeing the possibility in a tree. I have SO many, that I have not done anything to, because frankly, I sometimes dont know where to start.

It's such a dramatic tree it needs a dramatic styling. For me it has to be a cascading windswept tree so that you're not fighting the natural form of the tree, while you're styling it.
Excellent work. I was struggling to see what the design would be.

Good night Peter. You are amazing. The vast majority would have done a Fukinagashi style, but having seen several of your works, since you had your eye on that S-shaped branch I imagined that the design was going to revolve around it. I coincided with the first jin, the rest I would not have dared to do but the truth is that the final result has been the best. So many equal branches and with the same thickness were a challenge.
There's always more than one solution...LIKE IT!!

I can't help myself to notice that the owner asked about being pleased, moved camera left and right, left and right :D so funny even if it's a a little over-interpreted
that was a scary process however in the end it looks good tho originally i thought the owner likes the tree to look as if the wind was blowning the tree to one side....
What vision, creativity and guts separating the trunks! As you worked to make 2 trees from the one, the process had the feel of collecting yamadori. The outcome was an unexpected, nearly demure, refinement of the original material. This was either, "The Taming of [a] Shrew " of a Juniper or perhaps, Prof. Peter Chan's, Pygmalion Bonsai. This is the kind of styling I like. The end result has a free flowing naturalism and almost literati quality to it. I think Peter has done just enough as to not "guild the lilly". I also very much like the "running man" juniper that he worked on a few months ago.

Peter, there are a wide variety of small and one handed chain saw products I believe you would really find helpful. They started making them for chainsaw artists.

Peter I need your advice - what Eucalyptus species would be well suited to Bonsai? I am leaning towards selecting out Corymbia ficifolia ‘Wild Sunset’ or ‘Cape Crimson’ because of the mass of flowers they produce (almost like an Australian version of a Satsuki Azalea), and because they are so tough.
I live in a semi-Mediterranean winter climate, but summers are a both a bit more wet and a bit more dry. As this species is quite hardy, I was thinking to use a mix of 40% Kanuma, 30% Akadama, 30% coco coir (they’d rather be dry than wet).
Additionally, as they are commonly a dwarf tree species, which is grafted onto different rootstock - I felt they’d be well suited to Bonsai. I say this because they will be more adaptable to shrinking down their size into a Bonsai. I am a little worried that there will be future issues with the graft, but grafting is necessary for this species otherwise it doesn’t flower. The up-side of that though, is that because they’ve been grafted they tend to be in flower when purchased at nurseries.

This is a real problem piece. I always see tons of stuff like this on yards and landscape. The problem is you need to go all over the place branch bending to consolidate the foliage.

I am afraid I lack Peter's vision. I would have split the two, styled the first pronged upright with the funky bends, and saved the tangle for a Tanuki project.

Loved this video! I really thought the tree was going to be the style at 22:00. Regardless it still came out amazing! We need more videos like this. When i run into trouble with a complicated tree i always go back to the first step and follow the trunk. Great video peter lots of fun and relaxing! Just purchased ur book bonsai masterclass. I couldn't hear what the owner wanted after Peter wanted to get away from windswept. Would have really liked to see a windswept though!
Hi Mr Peter, Is it possible to seal the wounds made by jin creation and wont the tree be weakened if it's wounds aren't sealed?
I believe the tree will seal the wounds by itself over time. I think the paste just protects the wound while it is healing.
No need to with evergreen trees.

You are right - it wouldn't be the best solution. Remember - although every problem has more than one solution, some of the solutions may not be as good as the optimum one.
