When I first saw this episode I was completely shocked to learn that Destro and Lady Jaye were related and if Destro had known that early on he would have been shocked to learn that a member of his family became something he dispises and he and his family would probably consider Lady Jaye a traitor to they're family and I even wonder if Lady Jaye's family knew of they're history and probably did everything to make sure they're daughter didn't follow that dark path which is probably what happened as at the end of this episode Lady Jaye showed she had no knowledge of her families history and that she and Destro were related.
Destro didn't even care that it was Baroness...He shoots them some B.S. and nails 'em anyway.....Dudes sure got alot of hot action back in those days.....especially in GI Joe.....
They still show this cartoon super late at night. Watching it now as an adult, there are some things that stick out: -I have no idea how Cobra ever loses, or what "ruling the world" would actually do for them. They have absurdly good technology, way better than anything GI Joe has. They should just become their own nation like the machines from the Matrix & eventually force the world to succumb to them. -This show is a bit more adult themed than I remember. Maybe some of the later episodes lighten up, but even in the movie, it's some pretty serious stuff. -My favorite scene is when the Joe's end up having their base destroyed & have to take refuge on an aircraft carrier, where the CO keeps insisting that it's no place for a woman to Lady Jaye, who is just standing there. She eventually gets irritated and Hawk has to straighten out the CO over it. It's just funny how that would be declared "woke" today, but 30 years ago, no one seemed to care.

Joe into detonating a massive amount of munitions underwater (basically the equivalent of a bunker buster, though the term hadn't become common, and in this case it was literal because the Joes were trying to destroy a literal bunker that house machinery which was killing marine life). Detonating the explosives where they did triggered a fault line, which raised a land mass to the surface. Cobra was waiting to land troops upon it and obtained diplomatic recognition for their new nation. Of course, they then almost immediately set into a civil wart against themselves, removing their advantage.
I always figured Destro was a black man because of base of his voice. This episode blew my mind. Her :I love long nights She received the Double D from Destro later that night 😂
they had great writers for cartoon plots back in the 80's. I never realized how complex GI Joe was until I got older. All the narratives and current affairs of that era they would include in each episode...whole lot of adult humor too.
G.I. Joe in particular had some intricate and quite well done plots. I particularly like the two parter with Shipwreck where Cobra brainwashed him and gave him a Synthoid family.
I find Cobra Commander to be a particularly sympathetic character (for a sociopath). Either his underlings f**k up his deep-laid plans through mple incompetence, or -- if a plan looks like it's on the verge of success -- his allies take over the operation by force to claim the reputation and riches it will produce -- and f**k it up in the process, due to disunity. Poor CC experiences some serious management problems.
Most of the background stories and settings for Gi Joe were created by Marvel's writers, the cartoons adapted them and added some new elements, the same happened with Transformers.
I absolutely love Arthur Burghardt's performance but at the same time I did like the subsequent retconned origin story of his ancestor the original James McCullen being an arms dealer that sold weapons to both sides of a war and when he got caught Man in the iron mask time. Still that voice of his is commanding
His origin story is that one of his ancestors was caught selling to both sides of the English Civil War and Cromwell's men forced him to wear a mask of Beryllium steel. I am not sure why the show changed it to witchcraft, maybe it was make it easier for kids to understand.
