I remember watching this in tears. My father had died 2 days earlier and this was the night before his funeral. The Saints meant a lot to my father and me and this was the first game I watched without being able to talk to him about it. One of my happiest memories was watching them win the Super Bowl against this same team with him. I remember when Tracy Porter intercepted Manning, I turned to my dad who had been a fan through all the terrible years of paper bags and “Aints” and said simply, “Poppa, the Saints are going to win the Super Bowl.”
I'm glad he got to see his favorite team win it all. My grandfather was a World War II vet and a die hard cubs fan just like my whole family He died in March of 2017 I'm so glad he got to see his beloved team finally winning all.
My dad and I suffered through all those bad years as well. I'm just glad we both got to see the Saints win a Superbowl. I wasn't watching it with my dad but I remember yelling Superbowl Champions to my wife when Porter sealed it with that int. Neither my dad nor my wife are around anymore but I certainly hope I live long enough to see the Saints win more Superbowls.
I had a similar experience with the 2012 Super Bowl. 49ers vs. Ravens. First Super Bowl the 49ers made it to where my dad wasn't there to talk to about. He had passed some nine years earlier but it was still surreal.

Very fond memories but lets not forget the bounty scandal that led to that Saints super bowl. Their title should be removed as a reminder to other teams not to do anything similar.

Brian Hoyer and the Browns set the record for biggest comeback for a team on the road. Game started with the Browns losing 3-28. Game ended 29-28. In that game, Jake Locker got injured, and they had to bring in Charlie Whitehurst.

And this is why the NFL expanded their flex scheduling to include early season games in the event they get stuck with something like this
If it wasn’t such a crazy statistical season for passing, I’d say this shoulda been the first season in which the MVP went to a guy that didn’t play a game.

It's a damn shame that, aside from 2009, we've followed up every single playoff win in franchise history with a loss the following week. I never quite realized that until a few years ago but it's sickening to think that we've squandered this much productivity from Drew Brees by literally only having one season in franchise history with more than one playoff win.

@@danieldelarosa4252 Eh. Teams get 40+ hung on them every week in the NFL and that's really about all you can blame the Colts' D for that night. Their offense hung them out to dry twice by fumbling and giving it to the Saints at the Colts' 41 and the Saints' 48. They also failed so miserably to move the ball that the Saints started two other possessions at their own 40 and 42. Also, the pick 6 that made it 62-7 ain't their fault. This was a top 10 all-time defense they were up against which scored the 4th highest single season point total ever at that point in time (still 7th as of now) and set the still-standing record for total offense in one season (7474 yards).

This was the Saints at their peak with Sean Peyton. They could would have been competitive with any other great team in NFL history at that moment.
I am a saints fan and i LOVED watching Brees and the saints demolish the colts but i wont lie i do wish we could've gotten Brees vs Manning.

Happy to see we have team management now that understand how to build a team without relying exclusively on a star QB. This Colts team was build around Peyton and could not win without him. Happy to see we have a strong roster at basically every position now.

Brees was getting revenge on Painter for breaking his big 10 single-season record by a measly 2 points.... kind of a battle of the Boilermarkers if you wanna call it that. This offense was arguably one of the greatest football fans have ever witnessed. A record shattering group.

The Colts had only one drive longer than 35 yards so if Peyton played the Saints probably would not have scored 62, if only due to time constraints.
Indy was just about the worst D in the NFl that season too. Drew had a harder time v. SF in the playoffs.

May have been the biggest blowout in SNF history, but in defense to the Colts you had Curtis Painter as the QB. If none of you remember, Painter says before the season started, "I took a lot of mental reps while Peyton was on the field." Yeah. How did that work out for him hahah...
The Colts' philosophy at the time was not to give backup QBs many reps in practice, on the basis of, "If 18 goes down, we're screwed anyway." Seems like they were right...

The three worst NFL teams this decade were definitely the 2017 Browns, the 2016 Browns, and this Colts team.

That Lions team played in the 2000s but yeah there’s zero debate on who the worst team of that decade was.
This Colts team was no where near as bad as some of the worst Lions teams, or even the Rams or Browns. They just bottomed out horribly in one game, which really dragged their stats down.
I met Curtis Painter once. He was a very nice guy. Not an NFL-caliber quarterback even as a backup, but a nice guy.
The rest of the team sucked that year too. They brought in Kerry Collins that year, and he went 0-3 before he suffered a season-ending concussion. Painter was an emergency option only, and he was still benched for Dan Orlovsky after turning the ball over constantly. Painter belonged on a practice squad or as a #3 option for those rare teams that carry three QBs.
But, prior to that, in the 2009 season, the Colts had an undefeated season on the line, and they handed the ball to Painter in the third quarter of an otherwise meaningless game against the Jets with the Colts in the lead (just to protect Manning)...and he squandered the game. Sure the Colts lost the Super Bowl that year too, but they had a real chance of going 19-0 at that point.
Why did Bill and Chris Polian choose Painter as the backup? What did they see in him exactly? Every team needs a credible backup QB. I'm glad the 2019 Colts picked up Brian Hoyer to play behind Jacoby Brissett (who was a credible backup behind Andrew Luck).
I remeber that game. First time ive ever seen a head coach approached by another teams staff and asked to give them a break in the 4th quarter after running up the score.

The last time I remember a game being 62 -7 was when Dan Marino lost to the jaguars in the playoff in 1999!! It was his last game as well
