Just coming back to this video again after a couple of years, and now I'm ready to take in some more depths of information, now that I know the Rytm pretty well. Performance modes were beyond me earlier but now I understand them after watching this straight away. It's taken me a while to get familiar with the elektron workflow
2:46 I've always stumbled on the name too, and I'm Swedish! "Analog" is just the swedish word for "Analogue", so it follows that "Rytm" is the swedish word for "Rhythm" (which is not easy to pronounce either!). The accent is on the "y", one syllabe. So rYtm. Sort of. A sharp "r". A "alveolar trill" not the classic german uvular fricative r we all know and love. Not a comfortable word to say in Swedish either. The Analog Puls could perhaps have been a better name, just off the top of my head. The "takt" in Digitakt is the swedish word for "pace" or even "rhythm". Strangely enough they didn't name its FM brother the "Digiton", but the english "Digitone". Then again it's not called the Analog Fyra... I should go to bed, sorry for the text-wall. Love your videos.
The kicks are actually really nice if you combine them with a rumble sample created on the machine itself. Adding some distortion glues them together. You can set the lfo on the rumble to duck when the kick hits
Some considerations: 1) There is a limited amount of parameters that you can add to Scenes and Performances, so no, you problably can't have all 16 slots used unless you map only 1 or 2 parameters per slot. 2) It has 1 DAC per voice for sample>analog path, 2 ADC and 2 DAC per send effect (delay and reverb), and 1 ADC for each of the 8 voices, both L and R inputs, and the L y R Master, all for getting the tracks into Overbridge. The total count would be: 12 DACs, 16 ADCs. The path to the audio outputs is completely analog, only conversion happens for samples, effects, and usb streaming. 3) Hence point 2, the Compressor is analog.
Point 1 is inaccurate. There are 12 not 16 pads. Between them they can have a total of 48 parameters assigned. So you could have 4 on each of the 12, or 8 on each of 6 pads. Etc. 48 among all scenes and 48 among all performances.

Excellent review and demonstration! I love this series. I used the Rytm on my band Sex Park's lp "Atrium" and the combination of samples with analog sounds PLUS the sequencer was very inspiring. It was the first Elektron device I learned and I'm glad I stuck with it.
What happened at 36:00 minute with the compressors happens to me also when I use the SYM parameter of the distortion unit. The technicalities behind I don’t know 🤷🏻
there is a new maschine in the mk1 called dual vco. Its a 2 Osc Synth Voice. I would have loved to see Martin playin it, cause its fuckin deep. I think he doesnt update his rytm for a longer time.
in regards to the performance mode being overly complicated compared to the Octa's fader,... isn't it.... pretty much the same but with pressure instead of a fader? On the octa you can also select from 16 different scenes, right? Plus in the Rytm MK2 there is a dedicated knob to use for this (Quick perf amount) instead of the pressure.
I agree - the thing is, the fader in the OT becomes freaking complicated as soon as you use more than two/three scenes. Even more mindtwisting as A/B can be any of the 16 scenes. In the OT classic review I mention that. so - the one knob in the mk2 seems to be a very good idea. I like it when I had the A4 mk2.
I guess its not about what the rytm is capable of, its more like: whats convenient to use? In regard to the use of performance/scene-mode, if you did prepare your scenes before its easy to turn the knob. But for the use of performance/scene mode as in live wiggling (as in the video) its really complicated. To me it seems this is what happens often on the rytm. the possibilities are endless, but the way to get there is not very practical...
For me it's not the same. How can I blend between my settings in the performance on pad 1 to the performance on pad w/o falling back to he original state? Performances are more of a temporary nature while scenes on the OT stay active (same counts for rytm) and you can blend smoothly between two scenes regardless of the original settings.
Interesting he doesn't think the bass drum is impressive. In my opinion, they are the best part outside of the boxes functionationality but I do find the hats to be pretty disappointing. MKII pads are still pretty stiff, I haven't played the MKI but according to people online they are not as bad but still not great.
Or just use an MPC which has utterly fantastic pads and is super easy to use once you get used to the system. MPC kicks the snot out of the Rytm, unless you use analog overdrive on everything and you’re basically making hard techno
I've had one and used it a couple of times. I don't really like the sound and kind of hate the interface, menus, and the whole organisation of saving and loading. Pads are awful too. I'm not a fan of Elektron stuff even though I want to like it because of the spec and how powerful it is. The Vermona DRM mk3 only sounded good with a few settings but not enough to make me keep it. I'm not sure what to try next.
It is beautiful and it's Swedish, did I say it is beautiful and it is Swedish you said about the Teenage Engineer OP1, by the way, this one is beautiful industrial and Swedish too 🇸🇪🎶✨😃😊

Would love to hear Stimming's thoughts on the OP-1!
Coming next
@@musictalk-tech Fantastic!
Got the mkt but don’t use it much because of the lets say dull sound. Samples sound dark and are mono.
0:10 - do I hear "Walking Away" by the egg remixed by Tocadisco? :D
Dank! Cool!
Maschine def has more playable pads, the RYTM M2 pads are def better than the MK1 though
Imagine if they collaborated and there was a box with Maschine and Elektron goodness. With Maschine pads
@@No.0.o.0 That should be possible and good integration with a DAW too. Germans and Swedes usually work well together.✨😃
It sounds as if he didn't like it much right?
What a beast
"im still a bit in looove..... yah yah "
The name Rytm sounds beautiful, when pronounced by Cuckoo or Bo Beats.
yeah, seems to be a language issue - the word doesn't really work with a german background. so I should have stopped talking about it so much ;)
I assume those guys are Swedish. That word is weird even for a Norwegian. Strange to end on "tm". We say "rytme".
"i'm still a bit in love"
can you make fill with the rytm mk1?
Yes, works
best drum machine!
A smelly but beautiful drum machine !😂Stimming is the BEST reviewer !
Literally every company worth half a shit should be sending him stuff ib return for an unbiased review.
Excellent review and demonstration! I love this series. I used the Rytm on my band Sex Park's lp "Atrium" and the combination of samples with analog sounds PLUS the sequencer was very inspiring. It was the first Elektron device I learned and I'm glad I stuck with it.
OMG watching this again and I didn't realize you could make mute groups!!!!
Stimming, what was that documentary on African music you were talking about?
I think it was this one: th-cam.com/video/lVPLIuBy9CY/w-d-xo.html
@@MStimming danke dir! 🙏🏻 btw thanks for a wonderful evening at Ritter Butzke recently 💜
What happened at 36:00 minute with the compressors happens to me also when I use the SYM parameter of the distortion unit. The technicalities behind I don’t know 🤷🏻
"Rytm" means "Rhythm" in Swedish.
And "Takt" (as in "DigiTakt") means "Beat".
Go figure.
didnt know the takt one!!
there is a new maschine in the mk1 called dual vco. Its a 2 Osc Synth Voice. I would have loved to see Martin playin it, cause its fuckin deep. I think he doesnt update his rytm for a longer time.
oh, thanks for the info! will check
"i like this tom synth. why? because it's round and warm"
in regards to the performance mode being overly complicated compared to the Octa's fader,... isn't it.... pretty much the same but with pressure instead of a fader? On the octa you can also select from 16 different scenes, right? Plus in the Rytm MK2 there is a dedicated knob to use for this (Quick perf amount) instead of the pressure.
I agree - the thing is, the fader in the OT becomes freaking complicated as soon as you use more than two/three scenes. Even more mindtwisting as A/B can be any of the 16 scenes. In the OT classic review I mention that. so - the one knob in the mk2 seems to be a very good idea. I like it when I had the A4 mk2.
@@MartinStimming crossfader is one of the key reasons that sold me on the OT
@@GeekGearSynths that's true. In the OT you can go for S1 to S2 to S3 to whatever you want. On the Rytm it's always from no perf to p1, p2, p3, etc...
The Tempest has awsome pads.
The compressor does that to on mine
i sold my old one for the newer model i miss the old body style
Just turn off velocity to vol for pads, and them then are very usable! 😊
Pretty good clap imo
36:29 he's feelin it 😄
Jeez, what happened to the display?
The crazy doctor review.
😂 awesome vid
Interesting he doesn't think the bass drum is impressive. In my opinion, they are the best part outside of the boxes functionationality but I do find the hats to be pretty disappointing. MKII pads are still pretty stiff, I haven't played the MKI but according to people online they are not as bad but still not great.
1 & 2 are the Same engine of synthesis
love this machine but I agree the pads are horrible, messed up many live sets of mine. after 6y, im thinking investing on the new one
Or just use an MPC which has utterly fantastic pads and is super easy to use once you get used to the system. MPC kicks the snot out of the Rytm, unless you use analog overdrive on everything and you’re basically making hard techno
@@sub-jec-tiv unless you want an analog drum machine and not a laptop in a box.
Only the choosen ones can unlock 110% from the machine
I've had one and used it a couple of times. I don't really like the sound and kind of hate the interface, menus, and the whole organisation of saving and loading. Pads are awful too. I'm not a fan of Elektron stuff even though I want to like it because of the spec and how powerful it is. The Vermona DRM mk3 only sounded good with a few settings but not enough to make me keep it. I'm not sure what to try next.
MKII pads suck also. Pioneer SP16/ Maschine pads are the best.
The new mpc’s are the best in my opinion, though they need time to break in.
Klingt ja nicht schlecht aber kann es auch Lambada?
Why was it smelling, Gandalf?
Ha yes, the pads do seem like a big fuck up. Nicely put. Shockingly unresponsive.
It's a bad name, because its a swedish word :D Go listen to how BoBeats says it ;)
Schade, dass du das nicht auf Deutsch machst. :)
Warum?
It is beautiful and it's Swedish, did I say it is beautiful and it is Swedish you said about the Teenage Engineer OP1, by the way, this one is beautiful industrial and Swedish too 🇸🇪🎶✨😃😊
Nice but the machinedrum 🤗 oh the machinedrum
you would think they'd fix those buttons with the Model Samples, they didn't, same stiff bs button
