You're not missing anything. They wouldn't. That trade is insane. The #3 pick, on it's lonesome, is extremely valuable in a draft with above average talent. That's very likely Iriafen this go around. And, for my money, Iriafen's Junior and Senior year numbers look as impressive as the numbers Sabally put forward at Oregon. So you're trading away someone with probably Sabally's upside, but without any known injury history, who'd be under team control for at least 4 years at a small salary, plus 2 other first rounders with less upside, probably (though given we don't know what pick Chicago ends up with in 2026, can't say for sure on that one), for a super-max rental...and you don't even have a team immediately ready to contend even with her. This makes much sense. Smart people do things like this.
Yes I heard that. She also mentioned New York but not as a destination but rather letting the interviewer know she wasn’t a foreign player but was born in New York.
I thought a salary cap was meant to even out the competition by sharing the talent pool between teams? If the Liberty are allowed to stack a team with All-Star talent, then the WNBA will cease to be a competition for the championship in 2025. So what is the point of even watching? Is the WNBA sure that they want to go back to the dark ages so soon after seeing success and becoming the fastest growing brand in the U.S.?
The salary cap is still there. Liberty has just around $9000 left in the cap. It means they have nothing left. In order to hire Satou Liberty needs to waive unprotected players all but Satou's sister to create the cap room. And they end up with having Satou but also having a bunch of really bottom players to fill the squad.
Can't remember on which program, but somebody said Satou's presence on the Liberty would limit her sister's playing time. If that is true, I think for that reason alone Satou will not go to the Liberty.
She can make any team.she does to much better but needs to stay healthy. She really hasn't played an entire season since she came into the league. Not much more than half a season in any given year if I'm not mistaken.
Only two options are LA (a package involving Hamby and some other pieces: more than likely a pick swap as well, but this is more complicated) and IND because they have the cap space and trade assets and actually are destinations she would realistically be able to want to go to. The NYL idea is impossible unless they give up some salaried players and it just isnt going to happen. There is no way NYL sends Laney or another player just to make the numbers work and lose their championship roster that is on contract next year.
Yeah, like, sure, the Liberty could make it work without giving up Laney-Hamilton's big contract- if both Stewie and Satou are willing to come in at 180k or something. And I could see that making some sense for Stewie, since she's already there and isn't going to leave a championship team, and it's not uncommon for stars to take haircuts to allow their GM's to fill the roster with more talent. But why is that appealing to Satou? Even with the Liberty the Finals favorites, Satou will absolutely maximize her 1 year earning potential on The Fever, with huge endorsement opportunities. And as the 4th option in NY, she would not be putting herself in the best position to put together a big year that maximizes her negotiating leverage in '26. So the argument for NY is basically, 1.) she can play with her sister, 2.) she'd be a heavy favorite to win at least 1 championship. And really, the 1st point is the only point that makes any sense. Because if Satou's willing to take a haircut, there are probably 3-4 teams she could go to that would instantly become championship contenders. Heck, if she went to Minnesota, she'd be in an equally good position to win and she'd play a way bigger role in the offense. If she went to the Fever she'd be able to get both the money and a great shot at a championship, without totally disappearing offensively. Really, the only way the Liberty makes sense is if she's just dead set on playing with her sister immediately.
@@Vadimony So, coring a player requires the coring team to offer the supermax...but it doesn't require the player to accept the supermax. What would happen, in the above scenario, is the Liberty would core Stewie and offer her the supermax and she'd say, "I want to win and I know we need more cap space to guarantee that. Let's do 180k instead". And then Dallas would do the same thing with Sabally. Presumably, she'd only agree to that lower contract on the understanding that she gets to pick her destination. But frankly, I don't see why even that would do it. She has enough leverage to get the supermax AND go to a contender, so why should she accept anything less. And although NY is a championship team, it's not even as if it's even close to the premier destination- from a visibility perspective- in the league. Indiana is clearly, clearly, a bigger basketball market for at least the next 3 years and Vegas is probably a slightly better market for the moment as well.
If Satou is not willing to commit (not contract because no one will sign anything but a one year contract, but personal commitment) to a long term career in Indy, then the Fever should not and hopefully will not, mortgage their future for one year of Satou. What will the Sky GM look like in 2026 if they give three draft picks and Satou walks in free agency because she only signed a one year contract ? So she either wants to be pat of the Fever’s future or no deal.

I don’t like how you keep saying the Liberty are basically guaranteed to with the WNBA championship in 2025. That is really discouraging and makes people not want to watch the league. There’s literally no chance another team can win? I’d like to believe the league isn’t that lopsided. It’s not like the Liberty dominated the finals. We all know they got a lot of help to secure the win. Lynx had a very good chance to win it all had a couple things been called differently.
3, 10, and another first round pick for Satou? These suggested Satou trade packages are hilarious. By all means trade away 3 first round picks for a 1 year rental, at a super-max, on a player who has played in less than half of her team's games over 5 years and who, even in her one fully healthy season, only lived up to but didn't exceed her draft position. You'd have to be deranged to make that trade. If Dallas scores a low 1st rounder (7+), a future 2nd rounder, and a mid-level player, they should be ecstatic, especially given that it's now public knowledge that Satou is demanding out. I have no idea if the league's GM's are thinking as strangely as folks on the internet, but if what Mick outlines is even a glimmer in the head of any GM's head, Indiana should bow out before the bidding even begins.

@chrisstrawn3396 with CC, KM, AB, LH and Satou the Fevet are a 100+ scoring team. Satou is efficient scorer who can knock the 3 down. With her added to the mix, the floor will be so spread that % go up as KM's did (best of her career like Klay at GS) so don't need 15 shots per game. She can rebound and defend, but my prediction is the Fever simply outscore everybody
I really hope you are referring to the Wings because she already made it clear several times that no matter who she plays for she is not selling her condo Uptown and will continue living in Dallas during the off-season.

If KM doesn't come back we will get assets in return just like Dallas will for Satou. KM will be cored.
@@mckennag04 I doubt they will have KM and Satou but time will tell.
She would be an idiot to go to the Sky. Reese will not give up any part of the spotlight

You sound dumb
Nobody likes Dallas
Must be something in the water at the facilities.
I really hope you are referring to the Wings because she already made it clear several times that no matter who she plays for she is not selling her condo Uptown and will continue living in Dallas during the off-season.
Wings are in the catbird seat with the deals they can make on draft day with Satou on the table.
Sparks can overpay for Satou and Paige. Trading Cam and Rickea + future draft picks.
Why would we trade cam and rickea
Sorry Dilbert I don't think the Sparks are going to trade Cam or Rickea anytime soon.
@ To get Paige. Cam and Rickea were only conciliation prizes. Sparks really wanted CC. This time around Sparks really want Paige.
Both teams have the pieces to make it happen.
@@jaydenchrist6152 To get Paige and Satou? Sparks will. Out of all the teams in the running. LA only team that can give Wings the best offer.
@@diIbert Fair point
Mick, you to stop claiming that everything is over if Satou goes to NY. If the standing Fever lineup comes to play with Clark on her level, 2025 could bring some championship basketball to Indiana. However, the referees could throw anything they please, just check last season.
When they core her she had to approve the trade, they can’t just send her anywhere
FALSE! When SDS was cored and traded, she didn't "request" to go to Phoenix, she went because the Mercury gave Dallas the "best offer than any other team...facts!
@ I just read the rules again and it says:
Trades including core-designated players who have yet to sign must be approved by the player.
Johannes is not a fit in Dallas. Can’t run her, Paige and arike on the floor at the same time. That’s ridiculous
