The American constitution, that all democracies including ours here in Kenya were derived from, was built to break away from the feudal system that had been in Europe of centuries. However, the same 'enlightened fathers' who sought to free America, simply used the system they left behind(feudalism) and just rebranded it with a few alterations and boom, there's democracy ladies and gentlemen. Every single 'free world' leader has had to conform to this new system, that is what in my opinion, defines deep state. Having to conform to a system you already found in place, a system that has long served people who directly contributed to its establishment. P.S: I like what Prof. Herman said about deep state not really being just a few individuals, but a whole machine that is compartmentalized into several distinct sectors(like he mentioned included army generals, people we mostly forget about when talking about 'deep state') working together for a common purpose of self-interest.
