  • Why sodium gives yellow colour in Bunsen flame ?
Flame Test of Alkali Metals. This video explains about alkali metals giving positive test to flame test when subjected to Bunsen flame.
Secondly the audiovisual beautifully explains as to why sodium gives yellow colour in Bunsen flame taking electronic transitions into consideration.

An excellent presentation on the Bunsen flame test for "why Alkali metals with a loosely bound electron emit a characteristic flame colour " when heated over a Bunsen flame. The simple way you have mentioned about the flame test giving an example of Sodium describing its electronic structure. How nicely you have explained about the loosely bound electron when heated over the flame gets excited , gains higher energy and jumps to its higher shell and comes back to its 3 rd shell by lowering its energy. The energy difference is seen in the form of a golden flame characteristic for Sodium metal. Other alkali metals like Potassium do also give their unique colour emission for easy detection '
