You are a Godsent - thank you for this video!! I have no clue what happened with my mac, but I went to see my notes and everything was gone.... method #3 ended up working for me. I also realized that my notes were not synched to my iCloud....and thanks to you, I have made sure that they are. Thanks again!
If you do not have the button to view folders, you need to right click your tool bar and click "customize toolbar" from there you drag and drop the folders button onto your toolbar and you're all set to follow the instructions laid out in this video
THANK YOUUUUU. My notes was already unckecked that's why they must have vanished, when i checked it again they all came straight back!! Thank you thank you thank you.
Thanks for the tutorial! Here's my critique, if you're interested: I think you took too long to get to the point. When it comes to how-to videos, it's best to jump into the info as fast as possible, especially when it comes to stressful things like an accidentally deleted file. Otherwise, great video.
YOU JUST SAVED MY LIFE. I COULD CRY. I didn't have my notes on mac sync to cloud and it suddenly crashed and all my notes since 2014 disappeared. Tried the time machine method and they came back!!! THANK YOU
Thanks for this. Restored from Time Machine, found my missing note, but it literally disappeared from the list of notes before my eyes. I know I saw it, I clicked on it, and then it just swipped off the top of the list. Never seen anything like it.
Why can’t I find the recently deleted folder? It’s not even listed as an option on mine. Looks like your recently deleted folder pulled up under iCloud. Mine is full so I’m pretty sure it didn’t back up to iCloud. And, I guess my laptop doesn’t store versions/history apart from that? Doesn’t make sense…
Thank you for this video! I don't have a recently deleted files section on my notes, so this is making it tricky. Does that mean that I won't be able to resurrect my deleted notes?
I also couldn't find recently deleted files section. Open notes in full screen mode and then go to View -> show Folders , boom you can see it is there . For 30days you can recover.
I don’t know why but I tried it out and each time I try to click the button my MacBook makes a sound that I can’t redo anything. It doesn’t work because I don’t have a recently deleted. What can I do?

Hi there, thank you for your amazing tutorial! One more step for me. When that “coded “file shows up as a second file because I chose to keep both how do I read it? It’s computer jargon and it’s not showing up in my notes in plain English lol. Help! Thank you!
Hi thank you for your tutorial. I did not have notes backed up on my Imac. Only in ICloud. I erased the notes inside the Default Note folder and tried all the ways through Apple support with not success. I was able to retrieve NotesV&.storedata-wal to my notes folder but it does not open anything. Apple says that would only work if my notes were being back up in the imac as opposed to just in the cloud. Am I doing something wrong? Or just out of luck?
i just made notes but when i uncheck the notes box in i cloud some of my notes disappear but i couldnt recover it im so stress its like wasting 2 hours of my study hours
How about a time machine backup? I reset my iMac back to factory settings after backing it up to my external hard drive and even after restoring with backup back to the way it was to see if I could get my notes, everything else was the same but notes are gone
You can try to recover Time Machine backups in Disk Drill, but unfortunately we cannot guarantee this will help. The Time Machine files usually have very sophisticated structure and store lots of various data. If any of this data appears to be unreadable, the entire Time Machine will not work too.
Don't know what I did wrong, but I used method #3, restored an older version of the .wal file, it asked to replace the original which I did,....now there are NO notes in my Notes! Tried to grab an earlier version again, and same thing is happening. Rebooted computer and still, no notes. Also, how can you get back part of a note that you accidentally deleted on an iPhone?
Restoring a previous version from Time Machine will replace the current notes with the version from the backup. It does not combine the current notes with the ones from the backup.
I recently updated to Monterey and I found how to access my widgets (click on time) and edit what appears on the list but it seems to have deleted all my Sticky Notes. Do you have any idea how to find them?
I logged in to another Apple ID and when I went back to my original ID, my notes were all gone. I checked icloud and everything's there. How do I restore it to my notes in my laptop? I don't know about time machine. Is there an easier way to do it? Thank you.
Every recovery case is unique and depends on thousands of parameters. The only way to verify that your files are recoverable is downloading Disk Drill Basic, running the scan with All recovery methods on the whole drive (not just volume or partition) without interruptions, locating the files in question, and previewing them to verify the content. Disk Drill PRO will recover the files that can be correctly previewed in Disk Drill Basic.
hello! great tutorial! I really do need your advice on this: I recently got a new pc and was using the Migration Assistant to clone the information unto it. All was done and good but couldn't find my notes on both systems. checked my icloud account still nothing. what can i do?
Hey, I have a question. How do I see all iCloud notes on mac? I have recently just unchecked notes from iCloud sharing then I checked it back. But all of a sudden most of my recent notes were gone. I had around 40 something, but then it went down to 17 by iCloud notes. Please let me know as soon as possible. Thank you.
Most likely your notes were restored from the iCloud copy and since recent notes were missing in iCloud you did not see them on your Mac, as well. If you have a backup copy of your recent noted in the Time Machine, try restoring them from there.
Hey, i just wnt to know if you know how to recover a version of a note. I mean, i dont delete the note but suddenly it appears with no content, only the title, I dont get how this happens, it doesnt allow me to Ctrl-z, IT JUST DISAPPEAR. Thank you
I'm wondering if the time machine method will work in my case. I have the note I am looking for however its an earlier edit of the note. The note itself does not reflect the edits I made to it and the time marked on the note is an earlier time than the actual last time I edited the note. What do you think? Will the time machine work here?
Someone help me I'm coming from a I phone 7 plus that is completely dead due to the charging port being fried which I upgraded to an I phone 11 and for some reason when my carrier activated my I phone 11 my contacts and notes have all disappeared. I tried the Mac method and my notes and contacts are also gone on there too.
Check if iCloud syncing is turned on in Settings > [your name] > iCloud on your iPhone 11. If they were synced, they should reappear. If not, try restoring from an iCloud backup by erasing and setting up your iPhone again. Also, check if your data was synced with another account like Gmail under Settings > Contacts or Notes. If these steps don’t work, contact your carrier or Apple Support for further assistance.
Well something very weird happened to my and i don't know how can i fix it. So i don't had any memory left on my iphone and when i open notes it appeared nothing after that i deleted some pictures and videos and check again. And i see that i have only 11 notes when i usually had in totally 25.
Check the "Recently Deleted" folder in the Notes app. Make sure Notes syncing is enabled in iCloud settings. If this don’t help, consider using scanning your iPhone with Disk Drill for Mac or restoring it from an iCloud or iTunes backup.

My "storedate-wal" folder does not allow me to toggle through or click on any the dates on the bar on right, despite it showing that there are countless backed up dates indicated by red bars being larger than unbacked up dates, and also due to time machine having recorded the "last updated" date to show that there should be files for those dates?
