Bummer. You could probably fix that right up with a little duct tape. LOL. Too soon? Hey, at least you still have more bikes than you can count. Cheers!
love your videos at 3:10 you have a slight miscconception. normal spokas only wokr in tesnions so the "unsuported" part of therim is much larger tha with these. (thats thekey advantage of those large spokes(like thes ore bike ahead biturbo) that they can build the rim much lighter because it transverse the load both in compression and tesnion instead of only tension so the bending moment is much smaler. the effect ist that they have lighter rims so even if they are not the lightest they ted to have reeally low inertia(so they are easy to accelerate)
Ouch! I'd be having a good hard look at that front wheel too now. Would a replacement wheel come with a three year warranty as well I wonder - I'd certainly hope so! It's a shame, as they really suit that bike.
I agree with you Dave. Drive rims for 1200$!? That sucks! 👎👎 You can put that money towards a new bike for crying out loud! 8:45 Freehub does sound nice ...lol
Not great news and gutted for you. For what it’s worth, I managed to crack a rear Zipp 303s hitting a pot hole. Is the wheel a bad design, no. Did the wheel have spikes, yes. In my case running low pressure, meant that the wheel bottomed out on the edge of the pothole which resulted in a crack along the edge of the rim. I was unlucky. I do think however that warranty and after sales experience is more important than the item you purchase. I was lucky in this instance, Zipp agreed to replace the wheel. Hopefully you manage to get a replacement sorted.
that's ridiculous and so dangerous. As you said you only just noticed but could have been months ago and end up in a worse situation... Surely they can send you another wheel-set with actual spokes, you know, like how wheels are supposed to be made?
@@DaveNoakes carbon just isn't tough enough for anything involving knocks or gravel imo aluminium is much less likely to have a sudden catastrophic failure.

Thank you 🙏🏽 and thanks for the info about wheels/spokes. Much appreciated

I assume as they look like old bmx wheels you can pop em in the freezer and they will come out fixed?
Thank you for your honest disclosure.
Great vid Dabe, never change THANKS
i know the ghost xco team use similar spoked wheels but i don't know how they have fared, they do have a caning though.
That's a shame, does sound very crunchy when you poked it. Good job you have other bikes and wheels, would be a pain if that was your only wheelset.
Thanks Dave, I was going to buy a set of these when they come back available, think I will go spokes now lol 😂
Thanks for being honest Dave.. not a set of wheels I would use 😃👍🚴🏻a small no is to many to be testing on consumers
Ask for a spoke set I had a Carbon Drop Bar crack and was lucky I found out off the bike.
Maybe not enough spokes to support the rim as the failure isn't far off mid span between the spokes.
At least they didn’t explode with you on them Dave

Do you think the Black Inc FIVE wheels could have the same issues?
Not sure but I’d like try them 😂
I wasnt a fan of the design but i dont like em even more now i have heard how loud that hub is 😂
Not great news and gutted for you.

I really hope Elite does right thing.
Eso tuviste que pegar en algún sitio no es normal que se agrieten sin más…otra cosa las tienes con panzer o mus para proteger o solo con la cubierta
Sorry I don’t understand
You seem surprised Dave. Carbon Fiber doesn’t compress well.
Never trusted this type of wheels. There is a damn good reason why adventure motorcycles all use spoked wheels.
Drive did put him on the black list.

Yeah they must be insanely stiff with those 6 moulded spokes.
You're lucky it wasn't the front wheel!
In 2023 a 3 year manufacturing warranty isn't really good enough. Personally I wouldn't buy a frame or wheels that doesn't have a lifetime warranty.
maybe carbon wheels are disposable. just for racing
Nooo carbon wheels should last a life time if you’re using disc brakes.
they are Rubbish Dave
That's the risk you take with carbon wheels.
I’ve been using carbon wheels for over 15 years and this is the first set I’ve broken.
@@DaveNoakes carbon just isn't tough enough for anything involving knocks or gravel imo aluminium is much less likely to have a sudden catastrophic failure.
Carbon cant be recycled. Thats the bad parr.
that sucks, I thought they looked cool.
it's just a flesh wound
Carbon is not stable at all!
what a load of waffle. yes it broke. get over it
😂 always waffle and totally over it. Was just sharing my experiences with the wheel set.
Road wheel for Carbon........MTB for Alu........ALWAYS~!!!
But gravel?
