Just ran across your channel and you took me on a roller coaster of emotions. I went to Adrian Martínez Gandía Elementary from 1981 to 87. My fondest memory was getting there every morning, go up to the second floor courtyard before the bell rang and we would watch the surfers catching early waves; I believe the surfing area was called “Cabo Cabron”. The big grassy field next to the school where you pointed out the neighborhood was the Hatillo Tigers’ AAA Baseball Stadium; that’s were I had my first summer job at 15 working maintenance and of course was abandoned as well. The last school you went to was a Middle School named Juliet A Casey. I went there from 87 to 89. It’s devastating to the heart to watch this; it wasn’t just the Hurricanes and the Earthquakes; the main reason they were probably abandoned is because of corrupt politicians embezzling the funds that are allocated for education. By the way, both main buildings are over 100 years old and I believe the Elementary School was a Hospital before and the Middle School was a High School called Robinson High School; although I could be wrong. Thank you for this, will definitely follow the channel and watch your content.

Although heartbreaking, I’m glad I was able to take you back in time and that you were able to reconnect with a memory through a total stranger’s video. What you called a high school was actually the original Adrián Martinez Gandá Elementary school. I studied there up to 6th grade. The one on top of the hill, the big building, was originally a seminary. It became the middle school, grades 7, 8, and 9. The long buildings across the street were part of the original high school, with some classrooms shared with the middle school. I studied there from 1957 to 1967. This video breaks my heart.

The classroom you said looked like an English class, was actually the kindergarten classroom, and the classroom with the little library and all the books on the floor seemed to be the Special Ed classroom. I was able to read it painted on the walls in your video (one of those "blink and and you miss it" moments). It is so sad to see this school (and many other schools like so throughout the island. My old intermediate school is also abandoned). The kid wrote "no porque estaba abierta" or so I thought.

Hi Laura, I love seeing your youtube videos. It's almost like a wreck SCUBA diver-- when you see a ship in the bottom of the ocean after it sunk many years later. I used to be in the U.S Navy stationed in Sabana Seca right off Rt. 866. I left there in 1981. it has since been abandoned. I used to work at the base Post Office in front of the base pool. If you get a chance check that out. Henry

When you started walking to that school, I said to myself, she’s crazy, who knows if anyone is hiding there. When I saw you take out your gun and taser, then I said “ok great, she is protected “. All of that damage happened to the school since 2017 or 2018? Wow, that degraded quickly. Those kids were blessed with a great view of the ocean. By the way, when you hold the taser, put your hand through the strap so it can’t be knocked out of your hand if you get into a struggle. Greetings from Naples, Fl.. naplesfrank. ❤️❤️
Hi Lau! Like the rest of the states that get hit with hurricanes, a lot of building next to the water gets BLACK MOLD in the walls. This happens to places with high humidity. The entire land under these buildings becomes a hazmat issue. Or there could be some other more dark deeper horrifying story behind these abandonments. Just say'en. 😊 P.S. cinderblock buildings are the worst for cleaning out mold. Cinder blocks are hollow and not completely filled in with cement or concrete.

I used to live next to the other school and every time I stayed near my grandparents place during school time due to private school have off days, I would just jump and say hi and talk back to the big kids from the J Casey school. This makes me heartbroken seeing the state of what once I used to considered my second home 6 years after hurricane maria happened. The public school was closed over 10 years and what once a considered loud community shore became very quiet all the sudden
man what a location for a school and i thought it looked like there could be a surf break out there which would have made it so hard to go to school when the waves are firing, where i live in fl my son went to a HS right across from the beach and when there was waves could not keep the surfers in class! so sad to see such a beautiful area so abandoned as with most your PR locations, one of these days things are going to get turned around and the world is going to be in a new vibration and thats when PR and every struggling nation going to shine!!!!! and i am definitely going to brush up on my spanish and go enjoy that beautiful paradise

My high school was Juliet A. Casey en Hatillo back in the late 70’s early 80’s I believe this is same location and yes going to school in front and by the beach was amazing!!! Great memories. Thank you for sharing. This is awful

The Other reason why are schools being abandoned is because child birth rate is down. Back in my days my neighborhood was full of local kids. Now my own daughter doesn't have any one to play with. And it saddens me to se this. It was good times. I wish you could make videos of abandoned schools in Rincón especially Barrio Puntas.
The other School is a Private Catholic School "Nuestra Señora Del Carmen", There a lot of Abandoned Schools in Puerto Rico because of low Children Population. The Thing is that do not sell them, As you see Beautiful Properties right at the Beach , they could be Great BNB vacacional Buildings.

A lot of those other buildings may be small classrooms. When I lived in PR, I saw a few schools with classrooms like that (almost like they were added afterwards). With a beach next door, I probably would have skipped school and gone for a swim if not that being so close to the school, you'll likely get caught. And my mom would have beat my a$$, not with a chancla either.
Oh If i was a student in a school like this I would’ve DEFINITELY sneaked out and risked it all for a beach adventure 😂 I went to school in the city and would sneak out all the time to wander around the city and don’t regret it one bit!

Cuando voy justamente por la acera de al lado de hospital se empezaron a escuchar gritos de adentro del hospital y atras mio venia una mama y sus hijos y se paran a escucharlos tambien entonces miro hacia una ventana y habia una silueta blanca para muchacha la mama cogio esos nenes cruzaron y empezaron a correr y me grito nene vete. Yo simplemente grite dije no me persigan solo estoy pasando y me fui

I used to live next to the other school and every time I stayed near my grandparents place during school time due to private school have off days, I would just jump and say hi and talk back to the big kids from the J Casey school. This makes me heartbroken seeing the state of what once I used to considered my second home 6 years after hurricane maria happened. The public school was closed over 10 years and what once a considered loud community shore became very quiet all the sudden
man what a location for a school and i thought it looked like there could be a surf break out there which would have made it so hard to go to school when the waves are firing, where i live in fl my son went to a HS right across from the beach and when there was waves could not keep the surfers in class! so sad to see such a beautiful area so abandoned as with most your PR locations, one of these days things are going to get turned around and the world is going to be in a new vibration and thats when PR and every struggling nation going to shine!!!!! and i am definitely going to brush up on my spanish and go enjoy that beautiful paradise

My high school was Juliet A. Casey en Hatillo back in the late 70’s early 80’s I believe this is same location and yes going to school in front and by the beach was amazing!!! Great memories. Thank you for sharing. This is awful

Sad to say, most of the schools here in the island looks abandoned. Even though it has kids in it. But well... that's the "awesome" system we have.

The Other reason why are schools being abandoned is because child birth rate is down. Back in my days my neighborhood was full of local kids. Now my own daughter doesn't have any one to play with. And it saddens me to se this. It was good times. I wish you could make videos of abandoned schools in Rincón especially Barrio Puntas.
I have never seen a school that nice in PR. Maybe a private one. Definitely not a public one.

The other School is a Private Catholic School "Nuestra Señora Del Carmen", There a lot of Abandoned Schools in Puerto Rico because of low Children Population. The Thing is that do not sell them, As you see Beautiful Properties right at the Beach , they could be Great BNB vacacional Buildings.

The School is very Old More than a Hundred years old, My Father was in that School and he passed away in 2004 very Old.
A lot of those other buildings may be small classrooms. When I lived in PR, I saw a few schools with classrooms like that (almost like they were added afterwards). With a beach next door, I probably would have skipped school and gone for a swim if not that being so close to the school, you'll likely get caught. And my mom would have beat my a$$, not with a chancla either.
Oh If i was a student in a school like this I would’ve DEFINITELY sneaked out and risked it all for a beach adventure 😂 I went to school in the city and would sneak out all the time to wander around the city and don’t regret it one bit!

Lau haz considerado ir al hospital la concepcion de san german el viejo q edta en el mismo pueblo ? Tengo una experiencia paranormal yo estaba libre de una clase de la uni y tenia la otra las 4 de la tarde , mi padre ese dia estaba en el taco maker y me dijo q bajara , decidi ir a pie. Cuando voy justamente por la acera de al lado de hospital se empezaron a escuchar gritos de adentro del hospital y atras mio venia una mama y sus hijos y se paran a escucharlos tambien entonces miro hacia una ventana y habia una silueta blanca para muchacha la mama cogio esos nenes cruzaron y empezaron a correr y me grito nene vete. Yo simplemente grite dije no me persigan solo estoy pasando y me fui
