Scotland History Tours is here for people who want to learn about Scottish history and get ideas for Scottish history tours. I try to make videos which tell you tales from Scotland's past and give you information about key dates in Scottish history and historical places to visit in Scotland. Not all videos are tales from Scotland's history, some of them are about men from Scotland's past or women from Scotland's past. Basically the people who made Scotland. From April 2020 onward I've tried to give ideas for historic days out in Scotland. Essentially these are days out in Scotland for adults who are interested in historical places to visit in Scotland.
As a Scottish history tour guide people ask: Help me plan a Scottish holiday, or help me plan a Scottish vacation if your from the US. So I've tried to give a bit of history, but some places of interest in Scotland as well.

I'm more curious about the background of King James I's murder, to be honest. As brutal and as gruesome as that execution is, the history is fascinating to me.

A new video from my favorite bard of history! That's why I clicked this on! I've missed my Saturday story but hope you had a fantastic birthday! From what I've seen in the comments, I think your pointing out the grusomeness of this execution with sounds of it curdled more than a few stomachs! It made me thankful that we don't think that such a thing as public execution is necessary anymore. Of course, the local newscast tells me that others think we do. Definitely the BACKGROUND.
I would have thought that with such a brutal execution there would be a good chance that the victim would die before they'd finished. In particular, if he were left out at night, there's the risk of hypothermia. Shock can also kill. The violence of the process makes it likely that a major vein or artery could be ruptured.
Dare I say it, the fact that poor Walter Stuart survived so long suggests that he was in very good physical condition before they started killing him.

I commented before that not all English are so keen to bow and scrape. My native Yorkshire has many Robin Hood place names. Our US cousins point to the Magna Carta, from that era as a confirmation that everyone is equal. Our ancestors accepted Scottish kings too, so long as they did not start overruling Parliament. Then it was execution time.

Apologies Bruce but I saw Celtic deliver a 3-0 execution of Rangers recently. Watching the Rangers analysts explaining their teams loss makes that the most brutal execution in Scottish history.

King James 1st Regicide was the result of James abduction at sea on his way to France in 1406 organised by his Uncle Robt Stewart Regent Albany 1406-1420 who rewarded his allies like Walter Stewart of Athol and Sir Robt Grahame with lands plus Albany wanted his son Murdoch Stewart returned from English Captivity since 1402.When James was returned to Scotland after paying a huge ransom in 1424 he was determined to right all the wrongs done to him and Scotland by Albany and his allies.His first target was Murdoch Stewart being executed in 1424 for Robberia Unconstitutional Violence follwed by Murdoch's Co-Conspirators over the next few years.These painful and agonising executions were actually thought up by Queen Joanna herself and were as described.
