    Your lock would make a brilliant child safety latch for a cupboard or baby gate!! I love it.

    That type of wooden lock is known as hvølpalás (puppy-lock) in my country - but usually they have metal keys. A lot of people will keep them as puzzles, as they can be a bit tricky to open.

    ok Jack, maybe I missed it but, what keeps the "tumblers" from falling all the way down in the key slot?

    • @jamesrawlings8493
      @jamesrawlings8493 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Look at 6:40, the latch has slots that hold the pins from falling down fully.

    • @FrenzyIncarnate
      @FrenzyIncarnate 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      if you pull it all the way out probably the pins will fall. yet the latch bolt teeth dimensions and pin dimensions will match at that half drop position so pins wont fall all the way when the key is out

      I was thinking about making a lock for the outer part of my door to prevent burglars from getting in. No matter how many times I change the locks , when I am not home they get in , just because they use tech little known to most people.
      The lock would have to be made of steel. I would have to change the door to a door of steel.
      The lock would have to screwd and glued with a strong glue to the door or welded to it.
      Those pins and the key, their format , etc belongs to a part of mathematics called Topology.
      So my key and the pins would have to have a much more complicated topology for the burglars not get in. Also it seems the pins have a spring inside the hole where they are placed. If this is the case the K of my springs would have to be very big. So it would be hard for the key to raise the pins. If it's easy they will do it remotely.
      The Topology would be better if there was no need for springs and no one could damage the lock from outside as easily.
      I am trying hard to understand the design and I don't think I've grasped everything yet.
      I need a strong and reliable outer lock so much and it's not only me. No electronic or devices with passwords would do for me. It must be physical key to open the lock.
      No electronic safety measure produced any effect. I dealing with people with high tech and no respect.
