The final fight of Drunken Master 2 (aka The Legend of Drunken Master) is still #1 for me. In the English version, Jackie's names for his moves are very random (ex: "monkey drinks master's wine", "eagle carries wine bottle", "drunken maid flirting with the master", "uncle stirs the barrel", etc...). In the original version, however, he's actually naming the Eight Drunken Immortals from the first Drunken Master (1978):
Lu Dongbin - the drunkard w/ inner strength [Jackie also plays Lu in The Forbidden Kingdom under the character's birth name]
Zhang (Chan) Gualao - the drunkard w/ the swift double-kicks
Lan Caihe - the drunkard w/ the sudden deadly waist attack
He (Ho) Xiangu - the drunken woman flaunting her body
Li Tieguai - the drunken cripple w/ the powerful right leg
Han Xiangzi - the drunken flute player w/ the powerful wrists
Cao (Tso) Guojiu - the drunkard w/ the powerful throat lock
Zhongli (Jun) Quan - the drunkard holding a pot in his arms
He reintroduces these mythical beings during the market fight, and then leaves it up to the audience to visually identify each one during the climactic match against Ken Lo's insane taekwondo. Hence, not only is it engaging audiences beyond just watching two people battle, but Jackie is also playing different characters as if doing an interpretive demonstration of their attributes. A perfect example of multilayered choreography that sets it apart from being just another typical martial arts fight scene.

This stunt nearly killed himself, but it is amazing how he got away without dying.

  • @pjtheory
    @pjtheory 3 ปีที่แล้ว +14

Enter The Dragon is the greatest martial arts film of all-time and had a number of "beast mode" scenes that are superior to most of the fight scenes on this list. If I had to pick one scene from ETD, it would be the underground battle with Han's guards. This was a beautifully choreographed fight scene by the late, great Bruce Lee, and it was one of the most eclectic combat sequences in movie history. Lee seamlessly switched from empty hand/foot techniques to weapons such as the wooden staff, double sticks, and the nunchaku. The list further insults the Gone With The Wind of martial arts films by including a scene from a movie (e.g., Bloodsport) that is a blatant ripoff of ETD. It's also important to note that many of the scenes on this list were sped up which involves the film being undercranked whereas ALL of Bruce Lee's fight scenes were either shot at normal speed or were overcranked in order to compensate for Lee's incredible hand/foot speed.

@@Godagmannokseskaft Bruce Lee is the one who popularized martial arts movies in Hollywood. Without Bruce Lee,there is no martial arts movies in Hollywood,no asian actor in Hollywood,no slow motion aspect in martial arts movies. Bruce Lee is on a league in its own. New movies can't even touch Bruce Lee's movies. In Bruce Lee's movies,it all about realism and none of the other movies come even close to Bruce Lee's realism in movies. No one is even as much popular as Bruce Lee till this date. All the other guys have to increase their frames in the movies. But Bruce didn't. Bruce Lee is on a league on its own. Still there is absolutely no movie that can recreate the genius of ETD fight scenes. You are completely wrong. Without Bruce Lee,there is not Jackie chan,Jet Li,Donnie yen so on and so forth.

Bruce Lee movies are not reslistic anywhere! They are stiff, has little to no story and very, very poor acting apart from Lee's party tricks.
You have to remember that actors like Chan and Li was on the rise in their own countries. Without Lee martisl arts, would be the very same it is today, only Without Lee fanatics. Even Lee's son made better movies than his old man.

@@Godagmannokseskaft " you need to wake up" you need to live in reality as u clearly don't know anything about fighting. "Bruce Lee movies are not realistic, they are stiff" LMAO I can't even take you serious. That's because it's "realism" Do u honestly think you will do summersault and all those stuffs in real life situation as shown in Jacki chan ,Jet Li,Scott Adkins and everyone else's movies? You are blind. Absolutely no athletes (boxers ,UFC athletes) claim Jet Li, Jackie chan and all others movies are realistic. Sugar Ray leanord,an actual boxer says that his fight scenes are realistic. Joe Rogan(UFC) says that Bruce Lee movies are realistic than any other movies. Anderson Silva,UFC athlete ,says Bruce Lee movies are realistic and he took some moves from his movies. No fighter said that Jackie chan,Donnie Yen and all others movies are realistic. You are delusional. Without Lee there is no JC,Donnie yen and so on. It again proves u know nothing about fighting.
      1) Back then Chinese movies weren't famous in Hollywood "untill" Lee changed it
2)There was racism against asian actors and they don't prefer Asian actor in the lead role unltill Lee changed it.
      3) Martial arts movies aren't popular in Hollywood untill Lee changed.
Without Lee no one would hire Donnie ,JC. The social stigma would have still continued. Lee revolutionised martial arts movies. He is on a completely different league. All the others have to follow in the shadows of Bruce Lee. They can't do what Bruce Lee did.
