If you can hear a difference one or both amps are defective. Walker conducted rigorous listening tests that showed conclusively there is no audible difference between any of the Quad power amplifiers.
@@v8pilot Did that include long term listening? I'll openly admit I can't hear jack shit by instant A--B switchovers. Because the music is changing every millisecond and the brain wants to hear the continuity of the music rather than subtle differences in distortion. All we tend to hear are large tonal differences. Since most amps have flat responses we're not likely to hear any difference. But listen over a few days and we start to notice things we didn't pick up on first listen. The idea that blind A--B tests are the gold standard is just not so... not because they are blind but because they are instant and we don't have perfect discernment at an instant. It takes longer to pick up on nuances, dynamic contrast, leaching of harmonics and subtle distortions. That is why a component can sound great in the store but after we listen at home a while we start to pick up on nuances and subtle distortions that we didn't notice on first listen. As I said we don't have perfect discernment at an instant and that goes for any of our senses... touch, taste, smell, sight and hearing.
Got mine with Pioneer Record deck and AR 4s in 1982 second hand! Still going strong! QUAD in Huntingdon with fix em for you very reasonable cost!....Me 77 Warton LA5 England
What speakers were you using here?
I much preferred the Quad 303 sound to the 405 which to me sounded transistory and electronic.
Me too
It sounded "better" with the limiter resistor installed ........
