I used to own a pair of MA4s, one of my favs from back then. Strange driver arrangement on the baffle makes positioning them a bit of a challenge but set up properly the sound is ultra smooth and clean as well as dynamic surpassing just about anything made at the time. MA has employed special damping in the Isophon tweeters behind the domes and even in their surrounds and they sound both smooth a silk and clear if a bit forward in the mids. A crossover parts upgrade really enhances them. You are lucky to find these rare but superb speakers.
They look to be in nice condition. Restored,Modified, or just well treated? Although i've not looked,i'd guess they're relatively rare and expensive these days?
@@hungvlv I've heard and sold ESL 63s ,but not the 57s. For those who like them, they'll be unlikely to deviate towards anything else except for perhaps something a little more discreet to keep their spouses happy.
I still have my pair from 1970's . Bought from a friend who got them from the 1976 Consumers Electronics show in Chicago. Had them re coned in mid 2000's. Great sound. Still have my DENON PMA630 amp from that same era.
After several TH-cam videos... comparing the k3808 and the Berkeley... I think the Berkeley is the clear winner... more open and detailed sound... more dynamic too... but it has all the bass without a subwoofer ... your thoughts❓
Lovely, amazing, transparent Quads. The only requirement is you have to aim them closely at your listening position otherwise the treble completely drops out. Very directional but razor sharp detailed speakers designed in 1957.
nice video representing these speakers...do you think they are as good as the 1977 Ardens...only the boxes arw different...does that make much difference to choose the Ardens over these❓
I would not run tweeter. I would use lubricating oil on the surround and spyder, diesel fuel is inert and is lubricating and very light oil. This increases frequency resconce, decreases distortion, and increases sensitivity and increases bass, because the suspension components are moving more freely and are not detracting or adding wave resonant distortion pulling to a much lesser degree at least. This works great on old full range speakers, or any well made speaker. Diesel will not degrade the plastic components either. The cones themselves also harden and brittle with age. like old cardboard or old tape. You can use diesel alcohol dilutions, 20/80 and spray it on evenly to get the cones back to the original specs. If you have harsh tinny speaker cones. Keep doing it until it becomes mellow and to your preference for listening. Helps responce, and it is because they are engineered with plyability from the first day onwards, the paper cones are probably in spec and stable for 20 years from a material engineers standpoint. These are great speakers. They should all have been saved and turned into open baffle speakers. But man is dumb and plentiful.
I had a DH-101. When stock the DH-101 can sound somewhat hard and edgy but a parts upgrade can really improve the smoothness. Worth doing because the unit is otherwise very transparent and throws and wide, deep and focused sound stage like no other solid state preamp I've heard.
The Quad 33/303 really benefit from a parts upgrade particularly the 33 as the circuit topology is wonderful design but held back somewhat by 1968-73 parts. It's so good that when the best modern parts are installed it becomes near perfection.
A largely unknown gem of British speaker and a real sleeper although they weren't cheap but their sound competed well with speakers priced much higher. They were bag suckers for power though. 50 watts was the minimum they recommended.

what is the difference between the tannoy berkeley mk1 and mk2 sonically
Pure metallic sound
Dirty
Vintage but a little weak. Is it live?
The turntable sounds better. This cd player is somehow a little harsh
Spacey sound. But the turntable? Maybe an old Denon with...
Title doesn't say...is this the mk1 or mk2❓
Very nice recording for youtube vaideo...Those speakers sound awesome...🎶
My little B&W bookshelf speakers translate this quite well.

Yes they are capable of producing nice bass without a sub, wonderful speakers.
Brilliant! Tnx for sharing =^.^=
Is it true the Klipsch Hearsy speakers are only good for maybe Jazz. Way over hyped and overpriced.?
Overpriced
@@hungvlv So you like jazz👯♀️

Hi, they share the same drivers with the Ardens. Not much difference. I prefer these in modern home space.
are these as good as the Tannoy Arden mk1 or mk2❓

This is one of the best amps ever made! Believe me i've tried dozens of them!
Hello. Good sound. Almost unbeatable. Could you tell me which preamplifier you used. Thank you and congratulations on that 23.5.
I think I used signal from my Sony 777ES directly to the 23.5

I much preferred the Quad 303 sound to the 405 which to me sounded transistory and electronic.
Me too
Quad 33/303... under rated yet lovely sounding combo that were also very reasonably priced.
nice sound...but I heard the BC1 has power handing problems unlike the BC2❓
They are not designed to handle the power
Amp specs? Sounds amazing tho
The famous Quad 303, one of my favourites, just 50wpc
In my opinion one of the best amps ever made! No matter what price range!

Love the gorgeous RS-1500 and the singer who I just looked up on TH-cam.
It is a Vietnamese song, thank you
Excellent choice of music. This sounds great. Thanks.
