On This Island Nature Is Left Alone

  • In this episode I am going to one of my favourite locations for wildlife photography.
    Vorsø is a protected Island in Denmark, and for almost 100 years this little paradise has not been regulated by humans in any way.
    I have been photographing badgers on this island for several years now, and even though I have got many great photos on this locations, I always leave the island with new photos in mind and situations I did not manage to capture.
    February is not a good month to photograph badgers since they are only active when it is dark, but that is not the purpose of this trip.
    I am here to gather information and to prepare for this spring's photography and hopefully to learn a bit more about the badgers at this time of the year.
    Enjoy watching.
    See you out there...

    I have a little question - do you have a recommendation for an economical all-round microphone for shooting? I’m a biologist and photographer and am beginning to shoot video on my new z9 (gulp 😥$$). I’ll be on the west coast of Vancouver Island looking for coastal wolves in May and am looking for a simple on-camera solution to pick up sound. Is there an all in one solution for environment and narration? Or am I looking at two separate bits of gear?
    Cheers and thanks again for the information and entertainment. 👍

    • @MortenHilmer
      @MortenHilmer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are a lot of good microphones.
      My favorites at the moment is the Røde Videomic NTG and the Sennheiser MKE 400.
      I will recommend the Rode because it gives you a safety channel and it is more sensitive which means better for quiet nature sounds.
      There are a lot better microphones but they require xlr and are a lot bigger

    It was at the 16 minute mark that I was drawn in to the film. It was like I was right there, connecting with nature. It's all about the long periods of quiet that have a calming effect, a technique that many a modern filmmaker have forgotten. I admire your persistence with photography even during the cold, barren winter months. It's winter here in New Zealand right now, and I have a day off tomorrow. I'll be waking up early tomorrow morning to venture out to take some photos too.

    Hi Morten! Hope you're having fun diving with sea turtles. :) Currently watching a moose and a roe deer stag (? male with antlers) outside my window. Well, the moose got too close, so the roe deer ran away. So now the moose is nibbling on some left-over hay, that I threw out from my guinea pigs. Currently home at my mothers' "farm". We had -32 celsius last night. Still very much winter in Finnmark. Correction: There are two moose, I'm guessing mother and daughter. The baby moose is a bit small and skinny for this time of year, but hopefully it will make it through the winter. I saw them all yesterday as well. The roe deer is a regular visiter here in the winter.
