Exploring New Bird Photography Location | Wild Camping

  • It was my plan to go to one of the local lakes with my floating hide. Simon decided to join me this time but a storm ruined our plans.
As we were looking at the map a few locations stood out, but none of us had been there before and we had no permission.
I did a few phone calls, and to make a very very long story short, we met the land owners the next day and they were very nice people. We got permission to not only paddle around in the lake but also to camp nearby.
This was such a great experience and it is definitely a location that I am going back to - already next week I think.

    Greatimages!
i've been thinking about just getting a small pump-up rowing boat for something like this.
Llately i've been taking a little photography break because i just didn't enjoy the post-production thing and just took too long for me to go through the pictures etc. Mostly due to the high loading time of each picture when quickly making multiple runs of rating them (similar to the process you once explained in a video).
But this also gave me some time to think about my photography habits. There are multiple things i want to change:
    - I take too many pictures that are not very different from each other. If the lighting or the position or the settings don't change, there is no need to take 4-5 photos.
    - I too often take a picture before checking if the settings are right for the given lighting. Also by now mostly used fully manual mode, so i need to get to know my camera (D850) and the different modes better.
    - Get down and dirty...^^ I too often end up with a semi-good picture because i only kneel down instead of actually laying down and getting more foreground and a less top-down view of the animal.

I know the feeling of not looking forward to going through thousands of photos.

The word you are looking for at 2:00 is most likely 'peat'. The peat was dug up from the ground of the mire leaving large holes where water settled. Peat was used as an energy source when dried.
And I love your videos! I come back to them over and over again. Thank you!

I was thinking about a presentation idea, like when you show the final pictures of the bird you can add their sound/calling in background.
Of course you won't be able to capture sound of every animal, but if possible then it would increase the immersion of the photos!👍

  • @22ophiotrix11
    @22ophiotrix11 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Thanks for posting this. Next spring you should try to get some shots of the impressing mating dance and later of the chicks. Necks striped and safely carried on the parents back to protect them from pikes. The european coots chicks look like little punks with red and yellow and black. We have them on the lakes around here, but as I'm located in the inland no terns. They are so beautiful. How do you know that the ground of the lakes isn't so muddy you get stuck? I did some amphibian monitoring for the Natura 2000 habitats and had to wade into many small pools and trenches and sometimes I almost get stuck in the mud reaching my hips, making it very difficult to climb out, aside from doing it with a portion of dignity ;-)

That is the Automobile Assosiation in The Netherlands and they sell also clothes. And if we see a couple or friends with perfect matching pair of clothing...well that is an ANWB stel. So Danes, lookout for some Dutchies , you will recognize them :)

I love Dinglish. I'm off to find a tea letter so I can have a warm drink (if you don't speak Danish, this will likely make zero sense). In any case, love to see use of that floating blind. I've thought about it but just don't have the guts to put my gear that close to the water. Those low angle results are second to none though so it just might be a matter of time. Love that grebe.

A tip to help with the names of your flora and fauna photography subjects for the many different languages of your viewers is to use the scientific name/binomial nomenclature. The viewer can then quickly determine and use the common name of the species in their native language.
