great for being sober!!!!! boo for thinking you should start again... I STILL havent gotten mine under control and im miserable,: Id give anything to be sober for 10 months!!
Its a very good drug. I was put on 25mg dose. It worked very well in reducing cravings etc. But one has to find something else to replace the evening especially if are single and living alone. One has also to avoid triggers in the evening like anger, argument etc even they it may be through mobile. I try switching off my mobile when I drink on this drug.
step one, stop listening to people who have never tried the medication or drinking to excess or tried the medication. and judged everyone with no experience himself. that's step one.
I don't know why it doesn't work for me. I want it to so bad, but it doesn't. I even got my Dr to prescribe me twice the daily dose, but I am so confused on how to take it. The bottle says 2 times each 24 hours, but SINCLAIR method says 1 pill an hour before drinking. Help. please. Is this a maintenance drug, or do you take it prior to drinking, almost like a preventative? I get judged when I ask my psych about it, so I am looking for hands on advice.
Naltrexone works for alcohol drinkers, not real alcoholics. Those numbers are based off studies of normies. The success rate on real alcoholics without other forms of treatment is basically not studied. If you think your brain works the same as a rats then I feel bad for you.
I will tell you why. If someone is drinking to dissociate and escape the rumination of TRAUMA, they will still achieve it thru alcohol, just not as much euphoria. ie- if the person is seeking pleasure and comfort naltrexone may work. Is the person trying to escape pain and dysregulation? Naltrexone may not work.
I'm angry that I wanted to drink less an control the over doing but I feel I got tricked into this med never knowing it completely blocks euphoria..half bottle a whiskey a day here for a year plus an I came to my end not long ago getting camprall and neltrex together...so I take them both still urge badly an still drink for absolutely no reason no reward an it's making it worse n a way (major depression sleeping all day) but also helping my.intake -drinking feels pointless...great, I guess..i didn't want that I needed help yes but I feel like I lost a relationship with drinking which I love and hate as well..who tf noes nemore Hate neltrex. Blocking property love camprall but is it enough..an do I have another chance if its not...Lord help me.

( iv upped my dose twice before and got super super sick )i am 1 year on naltrexone and it is working on a lot of levels just slowly. @ria health
Lisa, we definitely recommend chatting with an experienced physician about your experience. Individuals are so unique and complex, this question really requires a medical professional who knows you and your background. Sending you all the very best.
We generally use antabuse as a last resort option for people... let us know if you want to chat further about other options! There are a lot of medication options to try before antabuse.
Antabuse is a horrible fear based medication which should be banned. It relies of fear, fear of what might happen to you if you drink on it. All well and good if Alcohol Use Disorder was rational and logical - unfortunately it is not. AUD is the exact opposite of that.

got sober without meds after reading the Alan Carr book. I'm 10 months sober now, but I think I'm going to start again.

My goodness, this is discouraging. But then when he mentioned that maybe a larger does may be effective.
No, it doesn't work for EVERYONE. However, it DOES work for 78-80% of people, which is at least 70% better success rate than any other treatment.
where I am I can't get it, can't even try it.

How long should u wait?
Watching and listening again
So if you drink from stress or for pleasure you’re helpless? I mean, what are the other avenues and how much less effective are they?
Not necessarily, no. This medicine can work in that scenario, just might take more effort/time. Definitely seek support as well.
Camprall... Antabuse
