    If Pepsi honored their 90s marketing campaign, you'd be the second civilian owner of a harrier.

    Saw my first Harrier in 1976. It was flown
    by a Swedish pilot. He put it down on one of our Helo spots and came into the galley for lunch and fuel (not served in the gallery) lol. My ship was the
    USS Nashville Lpd 13 now decommissioned

      GenralDmoney yeah but the planes that become drone targets or end up like this are usually retired and instead of scrapping they do this stuff, so it wasn’t under no circumstances a perfectly fine a 10. A retired airframe costs a hell lot to maintain

    Worked on the AV8A in the late seventies, next door to 231 (VMA 542, Flying Tigers), always wanted one of the trainers. Saw the 231 XO eject between the hangers, one that "caught a wave", another that performed a tail stand that went horribly wrong and ran through the Station Ops flight line, hanger, and parking lot, and one that dropped into the bay off of officers housing. It was a bad year-or-so for Harriers. Live and learn or die young, I guess. Still love 'em and hope to fly/ride in one while there are any left. You can do so many things with a Harrier that can't be done with any other bird, and a few that shouldn't even be done with a Harrier. Never licensed for the Sencil B, and wouldn't care to. But noticed no MDC in the Plexi windows, gone on the B model? Still had the World Map between the legs when I was doing my thing, guess that is a weight saver on the B. When I was in, we had more snow at Cherry Point than North Dakota, the exhaust came in handy a few times! All I can say is . . .I wish I was you! Semper Fi.

    • @sadiqmohamed681
      @sadiqmohamed681 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      This isn't an AV8. That is the McDonnel/Douglas licensed built version. It has a different wing, avionics and a US licence built engine. This is a Hawker/BAE aircraft with the original RR Pegasus, and it looks like the original avionics. It was in service with the Royal Navy.

      Ejection Seat Mechanic here. To actually explain previous comments all explosives have a service life based on shelf or installed life calculated in months. Ejection Seats get certain explosives changed out in these intervals ie every 24 months these explosives get changed or something like that. All the explosives are different and perform different functions. My seat has 15 separate explosives for example. During these scheduled inspections where the explosives get swapped, nonexplosive components of the Ejection Seat will be inspected as well. Depending on the technology involved there's testing and troubleshooting performed on these components to verify that they are functioning properly. This is of course done in between de-arming and re-arming the seat so you don't set anything off. They're actually quite easy to work on, but you have to follow the checklist. Skipping steps WILL kill someone, not might. Finally, because this is a component that can not be Operationally checked, it requires paperwork submission from specifically licensed personnel (CDQAR's in the Military).

    • @FriendlyMxdder
