- Mr. A T, a 16-year-old student in 12th grade, faced difficulty writing, buttoning and unbuttoning shirts, and grasping objects with his right hand for the past two years. His hand spasms, triggered by writing, became so severe that his handwriting changed drastically, and he needed frequent breaks while writing. Despite undergoing Botox treatments, he experienced no relief. Upon examination, Dr. Paresh Doshi diagnosed Mr. A T with focal upper limb dystonia, also known as writer's cramp. After consulting with the family, Dr. Doshi recommended GPi DBS surgery as the most effective treatment. On June 11, 2016, Mr. A T underwent Unilateral Left GPi Deep Brain Stimulation at Jaslok Hospital, resulting in significant improvement in his handwriting and the ability to perform everyday tasks like buttoning shirts and grasping objects.
