Mam, I can check in trade tariff for frozen fish VAT and commodity code, but frozen fish VAT mention 0% but third country duty is 8%..

@@atulrama331 Third World countries are Developing nations like India who gets Special preference in their duty rates. They get reduced duty rates compared to others. You can see the full list of countries in the HMRC duty website

@@sardesaisantosh Yes they are called Freight forwarders. They can clear the gooda for you and arrange transportation locally too. Are you talking about sea freight or air freight?

I have a question that has always left me a little confused. In terms of air-shipment, would that require a UK freight forwarder? If a company from China posts say 5 cartons roughly 11kg in weight (total 55kg) how would the purchaser in the UK get it cleared through customs? Do freight forwarders deal with such small quantities/samples?
1. Would the Chinese company deal with all of that via the postal service they use?
2. Or Would I still need a freight forwarder to deal with the clearance/paper work?

With regards to air freight, it isn't necessary you need to have a freight forwarder. The supplier in China can send all the necessary paperwork with the goods. Once in the UK, the customs will contact you for paying the required Duty/Levy or other taxes. After which the goods will be sent to the postal address that you provided.

If it's just samples in small quantities, you can definitely bring it under your personal name. Only thing to make sure is it gets delivered to your home address. As you might not be able to clear it at the airport.
So better to double check with your freight forwarder or courier

Anything you Import into the UK has to be through HMRC/Customs

Hi Neha, I wouldn't be an expert in giving you a list of banned items. Freight Forwarders or HMRC will be the best people to check regarding this.

Yes the Customs system has changed from CHIEF to CDS
Regarding this you will have to contact HMRC and check. I am assuming you are looking to do the customs paper work yourself?

Hi, yes you can do it yourself too. But it's really not easy. So it would be great to get in touch with a freight forwarder to get all the clearance etc done for you

@@adminefpit2642 Hi The process is almost the same as mentioned in the video. But for UK-EU import/Exports these are pretty new. So even the HMRC/Customs officers/ Freight forwarders are not sure of the paperwork and there are lots of delays to consignments
