Cool man, I go digging for 65 million year old amber that was deposited there. The museum of natural history did a big excavation there 20 years ago when the deposit was discovered while they were digging for apartment complex.
The rest area near Sayreville exit you passed has the commuter lot which people will station for the whole day. However, you can't be stationed their I believe from 2 am to 4 am. NJ state troopers will ask you to move.
