Good info Richard I always have wondered how close there measurement was too
I have had good luck running VP but they now offer kinda odd size bottles like to mix 6 gallons or something 🤯never seen a 6 gallon can 🤦‍♂️🤣

I always had suspicions of those small bottles being on the underfilled side. Whenever I used the small bottles, I made sure to mix it with like .8 gallons of gas instead of the full gallon. Looks like I wasn't being paranoid with that one. I wound up buying a gallon of Husqvarna XP + a few months ago on sale so now I just use a 32oz measuring cup I have.

As a carver I use a lot of fuel. I've been running Motul 800 measured with a graduated cylinder like yours since I saw Hotsaws101's analysis of 2 stroke oils years ago. I always pour the oil in the fuel, shake, then pour a bit back into the graduated cylinder and add this rinse to make sure my ratio is exact. Looks like I can't get ethanol-free fuel anymore here is Communist Canada so I may have to buy VP ethanol free now. $$$$

I noticed this years ago. I did the same exact test as you did. From what I remember Stihl orange bottle was dead on at 2.6 oz. The husky xp+ oil was a bit short. I had some old bottles of the stihl hp super in the black bottle and they were about 2.2 oz.
Opti-2 packets are dead accurate too. Both the small and big packets of oil.

Good video.! Your videos got me into test 2 stroke oils and fuels. Why I think those premixed bottles were short on oil was because of emissions and less smoke. This is why i measure and mix my own fuel. What I have found this year about most 2 stroke premixed ethanol free fuel cans I found the are putting ethanol in there even the big name brands but VP seems good. You should maybe try testing for ethanol in the fuel. I did it was an eye opener many of my saw problems were fixed.

Wow, tho I haven't purchased any "single shot" oil bottles in 12+ years I also assumed they'd be on the heavy side! Add to that those who just fill their old bloated cans to the used to be 1gal line... getting pretty thin😬
I've noticed the discrepancy in the 16oz red armor squeeze bottle. Has marks for 2.6 and 3.2oz but if you accurately measure 3.2oz and pour back into the measuring part of bottle, it's marked noticeably lower than should be.
Maby what we're really leary about isn't 50:1 but infact 55+:1. Thanks for taking the time to make and share this video with us!👍🏻

How much fuel stabilizer is mixed with that oil?
Then what is the actual dilution for actual oil?
Some of the mixture is fuel stabilizer so dilution
is actually more because not all of the dyed liquid
is actually oil, some of it is fuel stabilizer. Right?

I would've never encountered this, but good to know.
I've always used a squeezy bottle with the double lid, squeeze plenty up to the built in measure and then pour that out into a small medicine measuring cup using that as an accurate measure.
I then fill a measuring jug with the quantity of straight fuel I want to mix up, and pour the medicine cup amount in, then I throw the medicine cup in the measuring jug and swish it around to mix the fuel/oil together and rinse out the medicine cup all at the same time.
I only ever need about 1/4L - 1/2L at a time, so I only mix up what I will use on the day, and only store any leftovers for about a week or two if there's ever any left.
Saves wastage, ensures accuracy and cleans my medicine cup ready for next time😂

I believe I paid $3/packet originally but last time I stopped by they must have wanted to get rid of them as they were covered in a layer of dust and sold me the last dozen packets for $1/each. I’m running 2 packets with the 1 1/4 gallons my jug holds whatever that comes out to be. I was running Red Armor but figured I would give the Saber a try. This is the reason that I buy 1qt bottles, and use a ratio-rite to measure the oil. I also measure my gas, on account of not trusting gasoline pump counters to be accurate either. I only use 2 gal of premix per year and use the small bottles of oil. I pour the oil in the empty gas can, put slightly less than 2 gal of gas in, maybe 1.8, directly from the gas pump. When i get home i pour some of the mix back in the oil bottle and rinse it out back into my gas can to get all the oil out i can. Again, im a property owner, not a professional.

$4.99 each? That’s why I buy qts of oil and use a measuring ratio cup. I can by a qt of Lucas for $12 and that will make like 15 gal of premix.

Hi Rich, always enjoy your 2-cycle oil videos. Thebig box stores cater to the general population that uses a new saw for about 20mins and then throws it on the garage floor or in the box it came in until the spring garage sale. I have two brands that I run in all my 2T equipment, and like you I have a lot. I run Motul 800-2T and Amsoil Saber and buy it by the gallon and mix my own at 40:1. I have a special gas can for the Motul and use that for mainly for my big saws over 70CC that tend to be worked hard and run hot. The saber is a bit cheaper, but quality is there and I do trust their oils, although my only verification is the fact that I still run an old Homelite Super -2 that I’ve had since I was about 10 that, that’s over 45 years now, that my Dad taught me to cut on. Of course my My Dad was not big on oil types, and I can attest that he used outboard 2 stroke oil because we had it for the boat. We didn’t have the money for that fancy stuff, but we did what we could. Nowadays, I take care of the power saws that take care of me. I use the Ratio-Rite mixer, simply because it’s so easy to clean. Thanks for the video.

They really should give extra so you get the advertised ratio. That is messed up. Wonder what Sabre would be like?

I noticed the same thing with Husqvarna xp. The 2.6 oz bottles only contain 2 oz. I’ve inquired with Husqvarna customer service and they are putting me off to my regional service center. BS. 2 oz in a gallon of gas gives you 65:1. Not good.

Nothing crazy about shaking up a bottle of mix oil that's been sitting awhile I do it all the time because they do start to separate. As far as those little pre measured bottles are concerned I came across that nasty "short on amount" surprise year's ago when buying new equipment and being forced to get the 6 pack of oil for warranty. when I looked in the bottle it was only half full so being the suspicious type I am I opened all 6 bottles well holey shit! every one was filled at different amount's. In my market their supposed to be 100ml most where 60ml or less so if you mixed at that ratio you'd get something like 75:1 So took it back to dealer to "show and tell" and was promptly told it was my fault "if your going to mess with the oil measure you'll void your warranty" by a very pissed off service manager. I then grabbed a new unopen oil pack off his sales shelf and opened it in front of him with yes lot's of yelling at this point of "what the hell you do you think your doing" in the mean time a couple of parts guys and customers took a peek in the bottles I opened with some holey shit he's right coming from them, but this jackass just grabbed the hole thing threw it in a trash bin by the counter and said the company would never do that to the shock of everyone in the place. Of course I was told to leave and consider my warranty void from this point on, to which he was told back if the rest of that company was an asshole like him then I was better off not dealing with them in the future. Sorry for the long winded rant but you brought back some now funny memoires but not so funny at the time. Anyways when I got home I filled those little bottles with one of the other ones and six of them ended up with 5 so there you have it; sorry again Richard take care.

We have seen for YEARS the bean counting penny pinchers cut and slash everything no matter the horrendous outcome - just a few more cents times a multi million and the CEO and COOs and toptier get their multi million dollar bonuses uplifted AGAIN ! In the comments here, someone in the packaging business chimed in and said by volume they are allowed a plus or minus tolerance in the filling process. It's an industry standard based on a percentage. How he explained it made sense. He also gave some math to support that the contents of the bottle are "in tolerance".
I think I'll stick to saving a couple of bucks and measuring my own from a quart bottle.
