A very fair analysis. I played it on release and initially was blown away on all fronts but as years passed on subsequent playthroughs the gameplay shortfalls you mentioned became more and more obvious as I grew older and played more games. If anything at least I can honestly say Remedy clearly learned from their mistakes, and now looking back on AW1 I'm so happy seeing how Remedy was humble enough to take what they had and really evaluate it, stripping away what wasn't necessary and building on some of the more unique precursors for a better experience in AW2. There's no denying Remedy are masters of story and world building. Cant wait to hear your thoughts on AW2!
I get WHY you would think that BUT the story is what kept me here and got me into AW2. So isn’t that really the goal. I even liked American Nightmare. I just want more Alan Wake. I love this world.
Yeah, the game is pretty easy and it’s supposed be an action game, not a horror. They implemented most of the changes that you proposed in AW2, probably because they realized it would work better as a survival horror experience
That taken riding the barrel at 11:04 😂
Haha I couldn't believe I captured that little gem. Was tempted to put some music behind it but decided just to pop it in 😅
Great video. Playing this game now. Not sure yet if I agree with you.
Judging by the comments it seems split but see how you feel at the end. There's no right or wrong after all 👍
You can take a horse to water but can't make it drink! Feel sorry for anyone who doesn't get this game, you missed out!
I get its plot/presentation. It's just the gameplay that doesn't make any sense to me

I'm only a few short hours into Alan Wake 2 but so far it's blowing me away! Looking forward to ticking away at it over the next week or so 🔥

I enjoyed the story thats definitely not the issue for me. Its the gameplay that let's it down 🙃
Totally agree. Wasn't nearly as good as I thought it would be. Looking forward to playing 2.
2 is a real step up, it has its own problems but its improved in basically every way

I'm looking forward to getting deep into AW2 in the next few days 👌
