Does anybody know if you'll still have to stop at the lights at the top of main Rd and Carnley Ave?

Yes. The McCaffrey Dr lights will be bypassed, but all of the other lights and the school 40 zone between there and the Charlestown Bypass will remain.

@@atholmullen Thanks for the info! Seems a bit silly, having a freeway from Sandgate all the way to Bennett's Green that will all congeal right in the middle for 2 sets of lights and a school zone...

@@trousers2 Three sets of lights. Cardiff Rd, Carnley Ave and Peatties Rd. Yes, it's stupid.
I came up with a plan for grade separation at Carnley Ave that would enable elimination of all three sets of lights and moving the school zone to a side lane, but can't get any political interest in it.

@@atholmullen Ah yeah forgot about Peatties, more often than not it's green 🤣. I think it'll become very apparent once anybody drives from one end to the other how bad an idea it is. Especially during peak hours when the traffic will flow nicely for the start and finish then gridlock right in the middle 🤷🏻

The greenies back in the 80s stopped the rms from using a small part of blackbutt to do what a bypass is meant to do and bypass all sets of traffic lights and join on to the existing inner city bypass just before it turns to a 90kmh zone. I can see a major bottle neck forming and a rozelle interchange 2.0 for Newcastle.
