    Great video's, from the south. My old man surprisingly actually fire's the tyres down to the side, and that's about it until he complains about them been in the way. We do the same aswell with the sheets except we use two. Silage so good ud ate it urself. LOVE the Massey. Would be a good idea to roof the pit. LOVE the shed series👍🤜

    The holes at the bottom of where you have the grab take out of is because the spikes on the grab are to short we had the same problem and the new spikes made a big difference

    The best way to do a quick silage test is to grab a handful and squeeze it, then put it down and clench your fist. And when you open your hand if it feels a bit sticky thenthere are good sugar levels in the feed. On the subject of silage pits/clamps a few farmers here in England are having tarmac floors because the acid effluent cannot attack the surface (it's tar based) like can concrete because concrete is alkaline and vulnerable to acid attack. If I was a farmer I would always try to go for a covered silage pit because of the many benefits of having a roof! A nice tidy farm you run their young man so keep up the good work!

    • @IFarmWeFarm
      @IFarmWeFarm  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      DingleZilla cheers mate, never heard of having a tarmac floor on a silage pit b4, very interesting to know, our sugars levels ere quite low this year because of the horrendous weather we had at first cut.

    • @JonDingle
      @JonDingle 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@IFarmWeFarm No problem. On the sugars in your silage, may I suggest that you mowed the grass at the wrong time?

    • @IFarmWeFarm
      @IFarmWeFarm  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      DingleZilla we had near a month of wet weather just when our time came to cut, we got one day when it didn’t rain so we mowed and lifted straight away, It was soaking but it had to be cut at that stage. I can’t believe how well it tested considering that.

    • @JonDingle
      @JonDingle 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@IFarmWeFarm Ahhh ok. To get the best sugar levels you need to mow grass between 10:30am and 3:30pm. Otherwise the Sun hasn't had time to lift the sugars in the grass in the morning and after 3:30pm the sugars start dropping off quickly. But you probably know that anyway. You could try adding straight molasses or mineralized treacle to increase energy and feed values which will also make it more palatable. But you need to mix it in ideally.

    • @IFarmWeFarm
      @IFarmWeFarm  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      DingleZilla you are 100% correct but unfortunately that just was not possible this year. We’re feeding a mixture of roll barley, beet pulp and maize which the cows are doing extremely well on. When we start calving we will be starting on our second cut which should be excellent as conditions were perfect.

    When you close the grab tight then before you pull the block out open the grab 3 or 4 inches that will cure the problem of leaving holes in the face
