It's not really shocking that Blake Snell signed with the Dodgers. It's more shocking a Boras client signed not only before February and a week before pitchers and catchers report but he signed 3 days before Thanksgiving. I'm Thankful for PCA and ONKC
I love the point that if he goes to the Dodgers he'll be just "another guy" but on the Cubs he could be "that guy." I was thinking about this when Ohtani was signing last year. The Dodgers are the easy choice where you'd be one star among many. But you could choose to go be a different teams star and give them a shot too!
And that’s a big reason why they won’t get him. He is going to want to join a team with an owner that is willing to spend. Which is why I can’t imagine the Cubs being a serious contender
Dodgers aren't abusing the deferrals, they are using them intelligently. The cubs are a big market team and could play just as hard for these big name players. The problem isn't the rich teams overspending it's the mid teams underspending. Owners pocketing their revenue sharing instead of spending it on baseball. Cubs should just worry less about profits and more about winning. You win consistently and you'll get more revenue.
Deferred money is deferred money any way you look at it. It’s still a ton of money that the team will eventually have to pay out. Seems ok for now but let’s not forget how many years Bobby Bonilla got paid and that team lost revenue for all those years.
@@juniorlebron3083 Yup. Could be ridiculous. But if it buys a dynasty with more than one world series win, that will pay for it. Lots of variables but anything that makes the billionaires pay, makes me encouraged
The sad thing is that from all these famous sport writers i havent even heard the Cubs being in the top 3 list for Roki.. I would say yes they should be highly favored now but i havent heard anything supporting that.
@@thehappyhermit01 I don't know if those two have any impact on Sasaki, to be honest. Imanaga was with Yokohama Baystars and Suzuki Seiya was with Hiroshima Carp before moving to MLB. In other words, they're from the Central League in NPB, which is a different league from Sasaki's Pacific League team. FYI, Senga, Yamamoto Yoshinobu, Ohtani, Kikuchi, Darvish (and Tanaka Masahiro)....were all top pitchers in the Pacific league and know each other quite well.
@@yo2trader539 They didn't have to be close friends to have an impact on where Sasaki might go. Yu Darvish told Suzuki how the Cubs were a fantastic organization to work for even after he was traded to the Padres.
Salary cap isn’t the answer it hurts the players in reality cause they’ll never get paid what they’re worth but I’m all for some type of salary floor, force the owners to spend money on players or sell the team to someone who will
Always most thankful for my family. It's interesting to me that EVERYONE is leaving off Kershaw on their list of SPs for LA next year. Just an observation. He's coming back and will be ready to kick ass. IF the Cubs can get Sasaki, we'll be the first team in MLB history with THREE Japanese-born starting players. I suppose there's a first time for everything. Without bias, I do believe the Cubs, SD, and Mets are the top destinations.
I am thankful for my family. I hope the Cubs would sign someone like Sasaki and Tom Ricketts start acting like a large market MLB team instead of a triple A team!
I actually think this signing makes it MORE likely that Sasaki signs with the Dodgers. He'll be going through his arbitration (cheap) years for most or all of Snell's contract. Then, when it's time to move on from Snell, they can extend Sasaki with some real money. It's genius, really, and it makes me sick. 😂. Plus, it's even more incentive to sign in LA because, like you said, who else has a chance in the WS once this rotation starts humming? Yikes.
I can’t imagine Roki joining a team that has the worst owner in sports. He is going to want to join a team that has an owner that does what it takes to win. That is not the cubs owner by any stretch of the imagination. Dodgers are the clear favorites but if not them I think the Padres are the clear second choice.
I firmly believe the deferral system will be revamped with the next CBT. I thin the Cubs move to #2 on the Sasaki list, just behind the Padres. I truly think only 4 teams are in the mix, Padres, Cubs, Mets, and Dodgers. A 6 man rotation will come along when they expand the MLB roster to 28 and maybe the 40 man to a 45 man roster. I am thankful for Shota being a saving grace for the 24 Cubs and PCA taking over CF. In life, getting better health and home situation.
There needs to be a salary cap, full stop. Also, MLB needs to only allow teams to have a percentage of their overall payroll deferred. There's a reason why every other sports league is more successful than MLB; the parity in them gives fans in smaller markets hope that they can reach the post season and succeed (minus the obviously bad/rebuilding teams). It gets boring when the same teams are in the post season year after year. People always counter with "but but but player A is going to play against player B. How can you say that's boring?". Sure, it's cool to see superstars play in October, but when the same teams sign the best players again and again and again it gets very old, very fast. IMO it's infinitely more exciting to see a whole city and fanbase get behind their team especially when that team is going against a "media darling" or when that team hasn't been to playoffs in a long while.
By the time mlb steps in wit fixing deferred money dodgers contracts will be grandfathered in and the rest of the mlb will have finally caught on and start to close the gap so it really just gonna hurt teams late to the party 😂
This has no effect on the Roki Sasaki sweepstakes. Every team can offer the same thing, why would he not want to go to the Dodgers with all there Japanese infrastructure.
That's not the point. The point is where does he fit into the rotation? Someone would have to be traded or they would have to commit to a 6-man rotation. Also, why wouldn't he pick the Cubs with their Japanese infrastructure?
thankful for seeing the fruits of their farm system either make the team or get dealt for immediate help. I think Padres are #1 for Roki, Cubs will be in top 5.
Comment either:
1. What you are thankful for this year w/Cubs
2. Who the favorite is to sign Sasaki
Damn Dodgers, who else

Because the Dodgers overpaid. With differed money, they can do that. Differed money is going to kill this sport, I feel.

Just like when Lester signed with the Cubs in ‘15
Cubs brass are at a Humboldt Park Little League field looking for lightening in a bottle. They will not spend money.
😂
And that’s a big reason why they won’t get him. He is going to want to join a team with an owner that is willing to spend. Which is why I can’t imagine the Cubs being a serious contender
Chicago cubs is big market but the real problem is on tom ricketts he doesn't not want to spend money on Superstars players

Sasaki is a Dodger He wants to learn with his idols in the same language
His idol is Yu Darvish

Hoyer has made several trips to Japan to see him play. I like our chances with him due to Imanaga and Suzuki being on the team.
Doubt cubs are even in top 5

Our chances are better.
Keep dreaming guys, it ain’t gonna happen. Unless Sasaki costs a bucket of balls and some spare change Jed isn’t going to sign him.
Jed needs to get this done!!
Familiar with 2 players champion team ready, Dodgers west japan team and your not convinced

Roki is going to San Diego

I hate the Dodgers, but can't help but have begrudging respect for their "win at any cost" mentality.
Wish Ricketts would run the Cubs this way.
What about Kershaw?
Lol. NO. 😂
Ain’t no way the cubs getting sasaki 😂😂😂😂

I think cubs get fried green tomatoes
I don’t see Roki is going to the Dodgers, there is no room for him , unless they make 6 man rotation then they still have to let another player go 🤔

The favorites are the Padres
Y’all are high on your body odor. Get real.
Redsox are still the #1 projected landing spot for Roki
One of the teams are the Cubs and San Diego are the 2 tops team
I thankful i woke up today
