In today’s video I’m watching director Mel Brooks’s directorial debut, the 1967 comedy „The Producers” starring Zero Mostel, Gene Wilder, Kenneth Mars, Dick Shawn and others.
Have fun!

The chemistry between Mostel and Wilder is off the charts.
Mel Brooks won an Oscar for the original screen play - and in his acceptance speech he said 'and I'd also like to thank Gene Wilder - I'd also like to thank Gene Wilder - and I'd also like to thank Gene Wilder.' One of my favorite movies. Thanks for the nice reaction.
When Taika Waititi was told they wanted him to star in JOJO RABBIT, I imagine them saying, "That's our Hitler!" The ending anticipates the end of THE BLUES BROTHERS.
Zero Motel was Blacklisted in 50's. This film was his comeback, thanks to Brooks.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻❤❤❤
Brooks won the Oscar for Best Screenplay. It’s a family favorite and it was our intro to the smart, clever, zany world of Mel Brooks.
One of my favorite movies
Consider reacting to the series, West Wing, it is beyond brilliant. Your response to Dancing with Wolves leads me to believe you would love. By the way met Mel Brooks and Kevin Costner in very unsual ways, both are charming
Franz Liebkind was played by the great and wonderful Kenneth Mars, whom you know as Inspector Kemp from "Young Frankenstein". Always an asset!
Andreas Voutsinas as Carmen Ghia. Also a Brooks semi-regular, you can see him again in "History of the World Part I" and in a very dark comedy, "The Twelve Chairs".
Zero Mostel was Max, a titan of Broadway at that time, he originated the role of Tevye in "Fiddler on the Roof", and was Pseudolus on Broadway in "A Funny Thing Happened on My Way to the Forum". He and Wilder were together in the filming of Ionesco's "Rhinoceros". Brooks was so VERY fortunate to snag him for a role like Max, which would not have gone over so huge and weirdly sympathetic in other hands.
This was my introduction to Brooks, when it was shown, full of commercials, on broadcast tv. Our mom, who, like me, loved to write plays, loved to quote Franz: "You shut up. I am the playwright. You are the audience. I OUTRANK you."
I've seen both movie versions, plus a live touring company. And that was a total love fest : we were all basically speaking the lines along with the cast. A great night; I still have my ticket stub.
Dustin Hoffman was originally supposed to play the part of Franz Lipkin, but he was offered the role of Benjamin in The Graduate, so he got ,Mel Brooks to release him from his contract and Lipkin was played by Kennith Mars.
Amazing concept for a movie!!
From Hollywood movie to Broadway Musical to Hollywood musical movie, ALL SUCCESSFUL!!
Not many can boast of that!
And Carmen Ghia!! Best-fitting movie name EVER!!
I love Zero Mostel. I saw him live as Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof. He was magnificent.
10:45 The lady unlocking a billion locks from inside to open the door is my favorite scene in this hilarious movie.
ALL OF MEL BROOKS' MOVIES ARE CRAZY FUNNY!! 😆😅😂😆😅😂❤❤❤❤❤👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😂😂
Dick Shawn was historically fun and the song was amazing.
Shandor does very good films.
Dick Shawn is absolute genius as Hitler. An extraordinarily funny comedian, he actually died on stage while doing a performance and the audience thought it was part of a gag! It was a few minutes before a stagehand approached him and discovered that he had actually passed away.
Yes, but he died hearing laughter and applause. Not a bad way to go.
They actually made a play. It was quite successful. Won a ton of Tony awards. And then they made a movie musical that is like the play but on film. There's an OBC Chicago tryouts video if you want to watch the play somewhere on this platform. I dunno what streaming service has the musical movie.
A movie about a musical that spawn a Broadway musical, that then spawned a movie.
First!!!!
The re-make both of the movie and stage musical with Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick is also excellent. Which came first? Who knows? Who cares?
Speaking of Mel Brooks' voice, did you catch it in the show? "Don't be stupid, be a smarty, come and join the nazi party."
