Well, QB. Welcome to Blitz's reserve shell system. All shells reload normally, but the final one takes ages and should never be fired unless you know your can afford the DPM penalty.

Really simple, sure, but it takes the fun and careful thinking that autoreloaders should be. Blitz really wants you to just fire as soon as possible, it's how they balanced it

A medium tank with 420 alpha on an effective reverse-autoreloader is just stupid good. It doesn't really have any drawback that it pays for for having that crazy gun, great speed, and trollish turret

Vents, a gun laying drive, and possibly Vstabs depending on the map makes it handle great. Can't use a rammer on it so just sub the rammer with a gun laying drive or Vstabs and voila. Could probably drop gun laying drive possibly if you're using really good Vstabs possibly too, and I find a turbo to be unessential for the lion as rushing to a position faster at the start of a game doesn't really help it too much since its first shot is 20 seconds to reload

The dpm on this thing is so insane, you enter an engagement with a full clip, then shoot, wait 4.5 sec, shoot, wait 4.5 sec, shoot, wait ~7sec, shoot etc... It can deal 2100damage in 23 sec for example.... meaning it's over 5 seconds faster than the highest dpm single shot tank (K-91) to deal 2000 damage aka to kill a medium tank assuming every shot penerates.... As for continuous engagements, shooting 10 shots for example takes 58 sec*, to deal 4200damage, thats without the 5th field mod even. for comparison a K-91 needs 13 shots to do 4160damage, which would take it 60 sec with the same same skills, consumables and a gun rammer. The K-91 will only catch up and overtake the Lion in total damage after 100 sec of CONSTANT shooting... which almost never happens. Most of the time there's a break in the shooting after some time, meaning the Lion will fill up its clip again. TLDR: The Lion will have higher dpm than the highest dpm medium while requiring 1 less equipment to do so. *4.5+4.5+7+7+7+7+7+7+7 =58

To the point "IA is useless". IA has also effect on moving dispersions. Smaller the base circle, less is the progressive and maximum bloom (circle size) when moving. It has smaller effect when tank has already decent base dispersion, but it's still better than nothing. I will personally take Vents, IA and Stabilizer.
Dispersion when moving depends on your current speed * your modified dispersion values. Minimum dispersion + dispersion when moving = how big your bloom is. So yes, I.A does make a tiny difference to the bloom when you're moving, but you won't feel any of that in the game. When you're fully aimed then yes you will see the difference especially with tanks that have bad accuracy. I use Bounty Aiming in a lot of my tanks but not the tanks with 0.33 base and lower. Simply because there are more valuable equips that can change my gameplay drastically than the ability to hit 1 or 2 or maybe 0 more shots at super long range.

The day before launch this tank had great ratings from every streamer. After 30 battles, I'd say it's an unusually expensive average tank, but it can be fun.
Wow so this tank is basically like a IS-A in that regard of how you actually do want to dump out the magazine cause your DPM gets better as you fire but with an extra reserve shell like with the rinoceronte for emergencies

One of the things I have to practice is what you demonstrated in this game, pulling back and staying in the game. I tend to just rush in, probably a big reason im a 47% player
correct. Try one simple exercise: stay alive till your damage dealt is atleast same as your own tanks HP. (different for LTs of course) But the point is stay alive till you have made decent amount of damage and assisted.
Yeah World of Tanks is one of those weird games where you can actually help your team win by not directly helping your teammates and just playing your own game 🙈🤣.
420 (4.5s ) 840 (9s) 1260 (15.8s) ... (63.4s) 4620 so this thing has 4310 dpm if you include the first two shots and then continuously reload the 3rd, assuming the 3rd shot takes 6.8 seconds to reload. Not to mention you always have that 4th shell as back up so you could even reach 4730 dpm! just using the 3rd shell reload at 6.8 seconds would give you ~3700 dpm.
If you fire that 4th 'reserve' shell it takes over 20 seconds to reload a shell to fire from being dry.. so if you fire that 4th shell your DPM is tragically bad. I wouldn't count that in any DPM calculations cause sure while you could fire that 4th shell at the end of that minute to have a higher DPM the DPM for that next minute when you reload form scratch is just pitiful. The tank is meant to be played like a medium IS3A where you keep firing that 2nd shell and just reload the rest when you are repositioning or don't have any targets. Then when you see one you dump 3 into it and keep at it w/ that 2nd shell (never firing that 'reserve' shell).
The bare DPM number isn't very accurate at describing the DPM potential of this tank. eg. STB-1 w/360 alpha or K91 w/ 4.5 sec. reload and 320 alpha is supposed to have highest medium DPM rn. But Lion can do 420 alpha (100 more than K91) in the same amount of time for 3 shots, and then relaod the 4rth in under 7 seconds...
I don't think a CVS makes sense with that view range. It's been a while since I looked at the math but optics are going to outperform a CVS in almost all situations.
i think its a very good tank for veteran or experienced players who are familiar with auto reloader or especially if you are progetto expert you will shine in this tank but there is a lot of drawback , meme armor , Arty gonna hunt you and the main thing that don't forget ( no credit maker ) so i think its still gonna be a decent rounder ( but not in the new player zone as i noticed )
Rather than Progetto expert it plays more like Leopard but with awful gun handling -- with the obvious advantage of having two early shells with heavily discounted reload of 4s. For progetto it's more like you have 360 damage medium that is permitted to take quick 'loans', but you will pay heavy interest if you loan too much in short time. Entirely different mindset.
QB makes it look so easy. Just have to remember that the account he is using, his crew is maxed out and he has all the modifications so yeah he is going to have a great game. I have nothing but respect for you QB. I do follow most of you’re advice.
Great review qb, very detailed. However I have to disagree with the turbo, it’s a very poor choice. Instead I think hardening is a must on close maps as the hp is low. For open maps aiming device so the tank can actually feel like a sniper. For the last field mod aiming time is the best opinion otherwise you will aim forever and the engine power is already great in the first place, or just don’t pick either of them.

You make a fair point but aren't considering that without a turbo this thing reverses at 13 km/h if you take the camo field mod, which is a must in my opinion. Good luck falling back over a ridge with 13 km/h on a medium. This thing is not as fast as you think it is.

Try everything BON Vents, Bon Stab and perhaps something Experimental. We need to Max DPS of this tank and don’t look at stab. It’s fine if we compare to Progetto
It will get down to 6.66sec reload for the 3rd shell with EVERYTHING on it for max DPM... Meaning that from a full clip it can shoot 11shots in 60.12secounds... 4620damage in 60.12sec...4611 maximum DPM... insanity. Even as a purely single shot tank with 6.66 sec reload and 420 damage it has 3783dpm. And it doesn't even need to waste an equipment slot on a gun rammer to do so.
Just think of it as a single shot gun with 6.8s reload. And then it can have 2 shots of 4.5s reload if you aren't in combat for a while. i.e. 4.5 4.5 6.8 6.8... Then it is just a high dpm glass canon

I'm slightly annoyed that I spent 550k free xp on crew training, during the December promotion, but I'm not spending my gold or bonds on this. I view this tanks not as something I'd necessarily like to be in, in a battle, but rather something I'd be annoyed to face. That gun mantlet is going to be as troll as the Progetto 46 one. Balanced.
Never use turbo on Lion !!! It's the biggest mistake you can make. In thin tank you cannot be "there" first, cuz you'll not be loaded, especially on smaller maps.. better use Hardening/vert stabs, Vents and Sniper Schnitzel device
I'm a F2P and have blueprints, free XP and bonds coming out of my ears. I think I might get this....and yes, I know, I could spend the bonds on equipment. But it will be nice to have something rarer than all those battlepass things flying about!
I got the #2 for the 780, don't think I'll get this. Since they'll do another event in a couple months probably with other vehicles that are more interesting

To focus on movement and dpm with this tank is critical mistake. You should be fully correcting for the shooting mechanics getting the aim-time down to ~2.0 and as much dispersion reduction as possible otherwise you will stay exposed too long. Plays like a T10 char futur... you should be taking the reduced aim speed and reduced aiming circle in fieldmods VII and VIII. ideal equipment is fire control T3, bond vents, bond vstab with fieldmod V turbocharger or neither. Alternate would be fire control T3, Mobility T3, Bond Vstab and take anti reflective headlights fieldmod V. With the weak reverse speed you really want to take the extra traverse from Fieldmod I so you can just turn and exit frontally fast instead of reversing in many cases. Surprised at your take on this one QB I dont think you have thought it through. Your second game you stayed exposed long enough that arty got you and wiffed 50% of your snipe attempts. Its not bad luck you set up the tank wrong :P
Yep, i think exchanging the Bond Vents with the Improved Bounty Aiming could be worth too 🤔 Just because it rwduces the overall dispersion, what imho compensates the 0,1 sec loss of aim time from throwing of the vents 😊
It’s more or less the first tank that’s an auto reloaded that when you shoot the shell reload doesn’t restart which IMO should be how all auto reloaders should be
From what I understand, the Leone (Lion) tank was supposed to be an Italian version of the Leopard 1 or something along those lines, and I believe that it did eventually lead to the development of the OF-40. I'm not a historian, so I might not be 100% correct.
QB, you know a hell of a lot more about this game than I do, but I don't see an OP tank at all. It's got paper armor, outright bad gun handling, slow reverse, its whole gimmick is dpm, because nobody is going to sit there long enough to let you clip them, and it requires the stars to align to actually get that gimmick go work. Sure, if a really excellent player like you gets a hold of it, and you get that perfect game, you'll get some big scores, but average players aren't going to take over games in this, and even great players are going to struggle on corridor maps if they can't find enough targets, because this tank only shines if you can create a shooting gallery.
Thanks QB after this review I will most certainly be keeping my resources and letting someone who collects tanks get one. This is a Tank for skilled players and that I am most certainly not lol
I am still debating on going for this tank. I got the 780 with a number and actually love it. I have about 28k gold, 365K free exp and plenty of directives. But really I am not going to get up at rooster thirty to get it.
@@SilkyNoah its not only the powercreep. Reason for those polarized games is the difference in skill. The longer a game exists, the bigger the gap between veterans and new players become. And this is exactly why we need skill-based mm, or at least mm based on your number of battles played. As it is now, games are often decided before they even started, because one team manages to get a lot of experienced players while the other is full of new players. And this is simply not fun, that's why I dont play tier X anymore. Most of the time it is either rush or get rushed. Both cases are equally not fun.
QB, Your example of DPM firing only the 2nd shell is not realistic, because there are rarely, if ever, times in battle where can repeatedly fire for a minute straight. So you won’t be able to only fire the 2nd shell. The 3rd and 4th shell are going to load when we you don’t have an immediate follow up shot to take after firing the 2nd shell.
Thank you QB for the review. Like the BZ-176, that Lion is part of those lethal weapons, only given to a small part of player base to dominate the battles, that make the game less and less fair to play. I really lose interest in the game which I once loved, and start to play other fine games.
I was able to get one on the US server. I have OF-40 in Armored Warfare along with most of the Leopard family. The Lion is similar with weak side armor and good damage.
QB, I think you keep misunderstanding things like this tank and the IS-3A. The point of the extra rounds take longer to reload is so that while out of combat, you have a delayed burst damage. The IS-3A is supposed to be firing on reload of the last shell, but while out of combat it builds up its burst damage. The Lion is the same, you have a 3round mag and the 4th round is an extra burst while being out of combat and isn't expect to be used aside from shock and awe of a new engagement.
Isnt that what the Scorpion did, when it was first released, it was a fast sniper. Now the Lion is just creating a larger power gap. This is how they make money.

Pro tip: play WoWP. No, I’m not joking. Free exp (and gold) is shared between WoT and WoWP. It is stupidly easy to get resources in WoWP. Couple that with opportunities to get free premium and premium aircraft, and farming free exp is easy. I’ve got 3 million free exp only from playing that game with nothing left to spend it on. So, might grab this tank just to say I have it. Hardly play wot anymore though

The Lion was a German leopard 1A3 built under license in Italy. It's basically a cheaper variant of the Leopard 1. This tank is not worth it, rather stick to your Prog 65.
Here b4 people realise that they spent all their ressources on a far from OP tank. This tank is good, but not OP at all. And it's only good in good hands, most players will just get destroyed in it and would have better results in a Leo 1
yeah no you need to consider that those players who will get this tank will be the better ones. Cos there is no way in hell casual and f2p players will be able to afford it. This tank is aimed at whales, who are usually the better and more experienced players. So yes, this tank will have a tremendous influence on the battlefield, especially since it is so versatile and very good in pretty much every situation.
I decided not to pick one up. Not because I think it wouldn't be good or I wouldn't do well in it, but because it frankly would swallow up 99% of the resources I currently have available. Not worth dumping all the resources you have on a tank, even if it is overpowered. (unless you have nothing else to spend on in the game anymore)

Crazy good is huge overstatement, gun handling is bad, it's fast but not the fastest and turret doesn't really have armor vs tier 9-10 tanks

I have done the same. Win or lose I try to stay alive and farm as much dmg in a single game. So far I have up'ed my dpg to 2~3K.

I wouldn't count that in any DPM calculations cause sure while you could fire that 4th shell at the end of that minute to have a higher DPM the DPM for that next minute when you reload form scratch is just pitiful.
The tank is meant to be played like a medium IS3A where you keep firing that 2nd shell and just reload the rest when you are repositioning or don't have any targets. Then when you see one you dump 3 into it and keep at it w/ that 2nd shell (never firing that 'reserve' shell).
The bare DPM number isn't very accurate at describing the DPM potential of this tank. eg. STB-1 w/360 alpha or K91 w/ 4.5 sec. reload and 320 alpha is supposed to have highest medium DPM rn. But Lion can do 420 alpha (100 more than K91) in the same amount of time for 3 shots, and then relaod the 4rth in under 7 seconds...
I mean, at least this tank is a real tank, from what I can see it’s essentially the MBT OF-40 from Italy developed in the 70s and 80s

I don't think a CVS makes sense with that view range. It's been a while since I looked at the math but optics are going to outperform a CVS in almost all situations.
Only against stationary targets sitting out in the open. CVS will be better in all other scenarios.
i think its a very good tank for veteran or experienced players who are familiar with auto reloader or especially if you are progetto expert you will shine in this tank but there is a lot of drawback , meme armor , Arty gonna hunt you and the main thing that don't forget ( no credit maker ) so i think its still gonna be a decent rounder ( but not in the new player zone as i noticed )
Rather than Progetto expert it plays more like Leopard but with awful gun handling -- with the obvious advantage of having two early shells with heavily discounted reload of 4s. For progetto it's more like you have 360 damage medium that is permitted to take quick 'loans', but you will pay heavy interest if you loan too much in short time. Entirely different mindset.
QB makes it look so easy. Just have to remember that the account he is using, his crew is maxed out and he has all the modifications so yeah he is going to have a great game. I have nothing but respect for you QB. I do follow most of you’re advice.

Great review qb, very detailed. However I have to disagree with the turbo, it’s a very poor choice. Instead I think hardening is a must on close maps as the hp is low. For open maps aiming device so the tank can actually feel like a sniper. For the last field mod aiming time is the best opinion otherwise you will aim forever and the engine power is already great in the first place, or just don’t pick either of them.
He has an unhealthy reliance on turbo even when it's a bad choice.

You make a fair point but aren't considering that without a turbo this thing reverses at 13 km/h if you take the camo field mod, which is a must in my opinion. Good luck falling back over a ridge with 13 km/h on a medium. This thing is not as fast as you think it is.

Try everything BON Vents, Bon Stab and perhaps something Experimental. We need to Max DPS of this tank and don’t look at stab. It’s fine if we compare to Progetto
It will get down to 6.66sec reload for the 3rd shell with EVERYTHING on it for max DPM...
Meaning that from a full clip it can shoot 11shots in 60.12secounds... 4620damage in 60.12sec...4611 maximum DPM... insanity.
Even as a purely single shot tank with 6.66 sec reload and 420 damage it has 3783dpm.
And it doesn't even need to waste an equipment slot on a gun rammer to do so.

I'm slightly annoyed that I spent 550k free xp on crew training, during the December promotion, but I'm not spending my gold or bonds on this. I view this tanks not as something I'd necessarily like to be in, in a battle, but rather something I'd be annoyed to face. That gun mantlet is going to be as troll as the Progetto 46 one. Balanced.

Never use turbo on Lion !!! It's the biggest mistake you can make. In thin tank you cannot be "there" first, cuz you'll not be loaded, especially on smaller maps.. better use Hardening/vert stabs, Vents and Sniper Schnitzel device

I'm a F2P and have blueprints, free XP and bonds coming out of my ears. I think I might get this....and yes, I know, I could spend the bonds on equipment. But it will be nice to have something rarer than all those battlepass things flying about!
I got the #2 for the 780, don't think I'll get this. Since they'll do another event in a couple months probably with other vehicles that are more interesting
actually, with your extra bonds, i would recommend playing clan wars and simply participating will let you in the auction to win a nice t95/fv4201 instead of this

This tank is definitely a killing machine at the back of the line2, in Prohorovka...
To focus on movement and dpm with this tank is critical mistake. You should be fully correcting for the shooting mechanics getting the aim-time down to ~2.0 and as much dispersion reduction as possible otherwise you will stay exposed too long. Plays like a T10 char futur... you should be taking the reduced aim speed and reduced aiming circle in fieldmods VII and VIII. ideal equipment is fire control T3, bond vents, bond vstab with fieldmod V turbocharger or neither. Alternate would be fire control T3, Mobility T3, Bond Vstab and take anti reflective headlights fieldmod V. With the weak reverse speed you really want to take the extra traverse from Fieldmod I so you can just turn and exit frontally fast instead of reversing in many cases. Surprised at your take on this one QB I dont think you have thought it through. Your second game you stayed exposed long enough that arty got you and wiffed 50% of your snipe attempts. Its not bad luck you set up the tank wrong :P

QB, you know a hell of a lot more about this game than I do, but I don't see an OP tank at all. It's got paper armor, outright bad gun handling, slow reverse, its whole gimmick is dpm, because nobody is going to sit there long enough to let you clip them, and it requires the stars to align to actually get that gimmick go work.
Sure, if a really excellent player like you gets a hold of it, and you get that perfect game, you'll get some big scores, but average players aren't going to take over games in this, and even great players are going to struggle on corridor maps if they can't find enough targets, because this tank only shines if you can create a shooting gallery.
Thanks QB after this review I will most certainly be keeping my resources and letting someone who collects tanks get one. This is a Tank for skilled players and that I am most certainly not lol

Yeah, the power creep is getting really bad. I can’t enjoy playing a lot of slower tanks anymore because they just don’t hold up.
@@SilkyNoah its not only the powercreep. Reason for those polarized games is the difference in skill. The longer a game exists, the bigger the gap between veterans and new players become. And this is exactly why we need skill-based mm, or at least mm based on your number of battles played. As it is now, games are often decided before they even started, because one team manages to get a lot of experienced players while the other is full of new players. And this is simply not fun, that's why I dont play tier X anymore. Most of the time it is either rush or get rushed. Both cases are equally not fun.

QB, Your example of DPM firing only the 2nd shell is not realistic, because there are rarely, if ever, times in battle where can repeatedly fire for a minute straight. So you won’t be able to only fire the 2nd shell. The 3rd and 4th shell are going to load when we you don’t have an immediate follow up shot to take after firing the 2nd shell.

Thank you QB for the review. Like the BZ-176, that Lion is part of those lethal weapons, only given to a small part of player base to dominate the battles, that make the game less and less fair to play. I really lose interest in the game which I once loved, and start to play other fine games.
If you use just bonds to buy this tank the cost is 50,000. Seems like to much for most players.
Every clan wars player is outraged that the Carro was the reward tank and not the Lion.

I was able to get one on the US server. I have OF-40 in Armored Warfare along with most of the Leopard family. The Lion is similar with weak side armor and good damage.
QB, I think you keep misunderstanding things like this tank and the IS-3A. The point of the extra rounds take longer to reload is so that while out of combat, you have a delayed burst damage. The IS-3A is supposed to be firing on reload of the last shell, but while out of combat it builds up its burst damage. The Lion is the same, you have a 3round mag and the 4th round is an extra burst while being out of combat and isn't expect to be used aside from shock and awe of a new engagement.

Pro tip: play WoWP. No, I’m not joking. Free exp (and gold) is shared between WoT and WoWP. It is stupidly easy to get resources in WoWP. Couple that with opportunities to get free premium and premium aircraft, and farming free exp is easy. I’ve got 3 million free exp only from playing that game with nothing left to spend it on. So, might grab this tank just to say I have it. Hardly play wot anymore though

The Lion was a German leopard 1A3 built under license in Italy. It's basically a cheaper variant of the Leopard 1. This tank is not worth it, rather stick to your Prog 65.
Here b4 people realise that they spent all their ressources on a far from OP tank. This tank is good, but not OP at all. And it's only good in good hands, most players will just get destroyed in it and would have better results in a Leo 1
yeah no you need to consider that those players who will get this tank will be the better ones. Cos there is no way in hell casual and f2p players will be able to afford it. This tank is aimed at whales, who are usually the better and more experienced players. So yes, this tank will have a tremendous influence on the battlefield, especially since it is so versatile and very good in pretty much every situation.
I decided not to pick one up. Not because I think it wouldn't be good or I wouldn't do well in it, but because it frankly would swallow up 99% of the resources I currently have available. Not worth dumping all the resources you have on a tank, even if it is overpowered. (unless you have nothing else to spend on in the game anymore)
