    I just signed with Verizon, so far the service is great, I was paying for the Blast service with Xfinity, but the speeds never really came up to the promised speeds, Verizon 5g matches their speed no problem and for less than half the price, and I didn't have to sign up for cable TV that I don't even watch. They always tell you they offer you so many channels, what's the point if I don't care about 95% of those channels. I was paying $180 to Xfinity, now I only pay $60 with Verizon.

    I just switched to Verizon Home 5G internet and so far so good! I used to live in a major city so being able to find internet wasn't an issue. As a result, I got so used to consistent 700-800 mbps download/upload since I had fiber internet. But moving to a different city my options were quite limited. Aside from Xfinity and Satellite, there wasn't really any options. My family recently switched over from AT&T to Verizon so I checked if home internet was available in the area I am currently residing and it is. Although Verizon isn't the strongest as T-Mobile (my personal cell carrier) hovers from around 300-350 mbps download and 50-60 mbps upload. Verizon still comes pretty close at at 250-300 mbps download and 40-50 mbps upload no matter the time throughout the day. Pretty impressed so far, and with their best plan, it's only $35 a month which you cannot beat. More than fast enough for my personal projects and to be able to use it for gaming is a bonus.

    Good review...thank you. I'm pretty sure that (at least thru The Cube the service is throttled. Through my phone (Z Fold 3) I consistently get speeds up 500 down and 100 up. The cube consistently gives speeds of 300 down and 20 up. At low usage times I have observed rate spikes as high as 400 down and 30 up...but by the end of the test interval they have always dropped back to 300 down and 20 up. It's VERY consistent and therefore I suspect throttling...likely to balance network load. It might be different with the window mounted unit...which I didn't even know existed until watching this review. Final point...I live within a mile of Verizon store (we all know the best cell coverage is right around the carrier's store!) so I have STRONG cell coverage including I suspect mm wave.

    • @ScottAllison
      @ScottAllison  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They likely have mmwave at the store, but due to the frequency that is literally line of sight. That service can get up to a gigabit. You are quite right the cube service is throttled at 300/20. Verizon have said publicly they may increase speeds later next year once they have rolled out more of the spectrum they recently acquired. Fingers crossed!

    Set mine up a hour ago and I'm setup over a Ethernet Cable and have it hooked up to my Xbox and downloading at 45/48 Mbps. We only have 4G LTE but I'm vary happy so far. We are also out in the country so even when they do get 5G Network congestion. I hope they keep improving and it's way more reliable then T-Mobile's home internet. Heck we are talking 30 to 40 milliseconds which is even better than AT&t's network and I'm a mile away from the cell site. It's 60 or 50 with auto pay. Mine is also not by the window and go through two walls before the outside and again the towers at 1 mile it says I have a full strong signal but I do have a question is there a way to log in through the UI and if so is there a way to check the signal strength within the device itself see T-Mobile's device was straightforward but I'm not for sure how you do it on here interesting thing also is when I'm connected through Xbox to look at the network settings I haven't opened that usually on any other carrier that I've ever did on a mobile hotspot it's either a moderate to a strict NAT type so this was a big surprise to me cuz even on T-Mobile I had a straight net on their home internet so this is actually kind of cool no port forwarding or anything needed

    I switched from Comcast to T-Mobile but the lack of port forwarding was a killer for that service for me. I then switched to Verizon 5G and although the upload isn't as good the fact that I can use the port forwarding feature makes it a keeper. Setting up the network is so much easier than Comcast also. T-Mobile's home internet even though it's a lot faster my area can only do 4G LTE it hasn't been upgraded to 5G yet but 50 mb with about 6 MB upload I can't complain because my home DSL service that I have right now is only 6 MB down in 900 KB supplement so this Verizon's home internet is amazing so far. I just hope that it plays with online games well I mean I'm going to assume once 5G comes around in my area or if other people have tried this device on 5G the pain times are probably more reasonable I know what T-Mobile sitting at over a hundred and so milliseconds was pretty rough and that was on there 5G Network

      @@ScottAllison That statement is subjective, your speaking about the vast majority having half the upload speed I have. Plus speeds depend on a lot of different variants, speed plan, cable line conditions and equipment. Although coax has its limitations, I’m not doubting that if you have a clean line with good level there’s no reason a cable subscriber shouldn’t have anything less than 20 mpb upload, actually I’m willing to bet most cable subscribers do have 20mpb upload. Additionally, Verizon is also advertising to having a “ typical upload speed of 10 mpb upload “ right on the website to purchase home plus. Also I can’t justify the price Verizon is killing people with $80 bucks a month for home plus that’s advertised to give you 85 - 300 download speeds. RIGHT NOW with spectrum I pay 49.99 for 300 mpb download package but I’m actually achieving faster speeds than that at 479 mpb down and 32 upload average for almost half the price.
      I’ll say this Verizon is super expensive and alway has been. I can only recommend Verizon home and home plus to people who live in rural areas with no cable or fiber but as far as cable is around it will always stand to give you the best value.

I 'm going to be plugging it into a 1/2.5/5/10 gig capable SFP+ adapter in a mikrotik switch and it will be interesting to see what it can actually do. Additionally, the cell tower is only about 300-400 feet from my house and I can see it from the window I'll be installing the gear in. If you're getting the cube it's capped 300 down and 20 up, on both plans. You only get faster speeds on mmWave, which isn't widely available. Verizon have said they may increase speeds in the future on C band once they are utilizing the full spectrum allocation but haven't given a timeline.

    Is this thing going to cover 4 internet TVs running in the same time? I'm asking because i have an att router that covers 3 TVs in the same time. The router powered by cable internet. Is very good i never had an issue.
    I'm asking this because i bought service for a Verizon gateway 25 a month and they told me that is going to cover more TVs and devices running in the same time. I never installed Verizon because i don't believe that is going to cover more devices at the same speed since i have an att internet plan
    What do you think?
    I have att fiber 1000 plan

      @ScottAllison  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your AT&T fiber is the premium, top of the line way to get Internet. The verizon service is very good, and competes well with cable. I don't know if it could cope with streaming 3 HD feeds at the same time, but my guess would be yes. There's more than enough bandwidth for that. But ultimately it's going to depend on a bunch of factors based on your location and signal strength. The only way to know is try it and see.

    A verizon rep just stopped by the other day and there wasn't any other internet companies other than xfinity availble for our location. We already have verizon for our phones and it would be much cheaper then xfinity. Would the mmWave offer faster speeds? We are getting 600mgbs atm.

    • @ScottAllison
      @ScottAllison  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      mmWave is much faster, up to a gigabit, but you don't get a choice. If that's available at your address they'll send that. But for most people it's the 300 Mbps cube they'll get. That has much much greater coverage.

    Do you think my kids could have multiple gaming sessions going on with this service? This service just went live in my area, and it's about $60 cheaper a month compared to xfinity, so i'm considering switching.

      The speeds are "up to" and will vary according to signal strength and distance from the cell tower. Unfortunately this is one downside. There is less predictability with a mobile connection compared to a wired one
