I learned like 15 dqys into the game just how powerful a swarm of fighters can be. I dont use torps but plasma cannons. I just never bothered cos i suck at dealing with supply chains (i assume you need to keep the raptor supplied). But even with the plasma cannons 50 of them can make short work of any zenon capital ship. I just dont send them to stations. Torpedo resupplying is not hard. I just one click rearm 60 torpedo Chimera: th-cam.com/video/A_5eAQxiIjU/w-d-xo.html, and that was available from over an year ago. I've also tested fighters with plasma, this is a test with 100 plasma Quasars: th-cam.com/video/Sm1qLEC9Dgc/w-d-xo.html, decided the dmg delivered was too low and never use it after. The Asgard is crazy OP in player hands...but is the definition of boredom. After something like this: th-cam.com/video/KlbGiqHdwrk/w-d-xo.html, my Asgards started gathering space dust, as I saw no point in using them. Another thing I don't like about the Asgard is the fact that if by any reason your engine is destroyed, and capital ships are coming, you are dead. Meanwhile, if the engine on the Raptor is destroyed, I would not give a f..., its birds will kill anything that comes near. So, I had in game, combat scenarios where the Asgard had its arse handed to it...with the Raptor? never. Hence for me Raptor > Asgard in regard of fleet combat.
Yeap, in X4, one can always throw numbers (and/or money) to solve a combat scenario. I just consider the Asgard as being so OP that I've never build more that two of them in any of my playthroughs. Other that very large swarms of fighters or S bombers using torpedoes (unfortunately, the faction rarely use torps 🙁), that ship will handle any combat situation one might encounter.

Using fighter wings to achieve your combat goals is much more engaging that just pointing the Asgard XL battery and buzz :) Plus, the Raptor allow me to play X4, BSG style (I just love that show), just one ship against a hostile universe :) I do find the Asgard as being indispensable for station demolition, the one thing that the Raptor + Chimeras can't do (efficiently).
Torpedo game is a sport for the fully stock wharf owners out there :P If you buy your ships and ammo..hell no. Then again, the wharf is the cheapest ship production module available and torpedo using fighters, are better in an anti capital role, that the expensive and costly to build, destroyers. The only thing that the fighters can't do is to atack stations (the explosion dmg kill them on mass), but for any other combat scenario...they rule :D
@@Gakusangi try buying your torp blueprint from the Terran, then it's microlattice and silicone carbide instead of smart chips and missile components and you get more per unit of space.
Their fighters sure are, and The Raptor has the best AA in the game with flak + the 100 fighters capacity. The combo of Raptor + Chimeras, prety much solved fleet combat in X4 for me. The split only suffer on the low range of the Rattlesnake, their destroyer.
I was killing one K after another in my Asgard close to a gate facing away from it. Like you, I thought I was invincible. Another K suddenly came through the gate behind me and shot out the Asgard's engine before I could turn around. Then my Asgard was a sitting duck and was quickly destroyed.
TER is the north korea of X4, they are in fact the hermit kingdom. They pretend to do everything in house but then you realize oh shit all my L turrets suck then you have to outsource plasmas cannons from Iran. If Apple was a faction in X4, it would look something like TER. Oh, so I see you like the Proton Barrage guns? Well you can only use those on Apple ships. F that noise. To be fair they have good main batteries, shields, and engines, but really crappy def stations, just really bad L turrets and their S ships are not that great to me. A Rattlesnake with the most basic mods like Slashers on weapons and Nudger for engines is doing crazy damage and cruising at a battle speed of about 400 m/s, that's faster than all the TER S fighters aside from their scouts. Split ships all the way.
Good point, but one ship got in, one ship got out :P Also for a carrier, the fighters serve the same role as turrets, you just have to "fill" all "turrets" slots :)
@@ragnos28 Turrets that zip around at high speeds and attack entirely independent from the big ship. They're more like defense drones that don't suck XD
Misplay by taking your carrier in brawling distance with Xenon Caps tho.. You don't see Carriers doing that IRL do you ?. Use the fighters as proxy, don't bring carriers closer then needed.
You are correct, in regards of tactics that should be used by carriers. I just enjoy the added challenge of relatively close range engagements. Plus, I have already tested similar scenarios (multiple xenon capitals in close proximity of the Raptor): th-cam.com/video/XoPsiHUmp8U/w-d-xo.html and I knew the Raptor could handle it. In fact, in 3k hours, I don't think I've ever lost a Raptor in a combat scenario, dispite using "not safe" tactics (lost an Asgard a few times, maybe that is why, for me, the Raptor, once it gets its fighter complement > Asgard 😋). In short, I will do things "wrong", if they add excitement to my gameplay.

My early game money making come from escort miner missions that you can do with your starter fighter (maybe upgrade with some cash from loots and missions). The mission symbol are 2 horizontal arows, when you see it, know that are money to be made. There are not dificult, as the Kha'ak will focus on the miner and not you, in some missions, the miner already will have NPC ecorts, you just help, plus, as you get killing enemies reward and the mission reward, and maybe some exterminate Kha'ak missions (ex, kill 10 Kha'ak ships for 600k), can rank up 5kk for 10 minutes work. Its the new crystal mining, only more fun :D Something like this: th-cam.com/video/dCsQwDyy88Q/w-d-xo.html After that, go after the free destroyer (google or check youtube videos on how to get it), upgrade the destroyer with the earnings from escort miner missions, complete the terran plot, get the free Syn. Put paranid plasma on the L turetts of the Syn and you can take some terran vs xenon, station busting mission, that give about 40kk reward. Also, do the terran vs xenon, fleet delivery missions, some are as simple as delivering 3 katana, you get the value of the ships + 50%. Even if you buy the ships, there is still 50% in profit for you. You can also do what other players do, get some M ships, pack them with marines and start bording (some use the starting fighter to bail out SCA M ships, as a starting money making). Personally, I dont do that, as I suck at it, but there is money to be made. Others, even capture the Asgard. Good hunting :)
@@ragnos28 Yeah, I remember Lineage. Played it a bit. It had quite a bit of community overlap with Cabal iirc. That might be why both games used kk instead of m.
The Raptor has no way of dealing with several K's and I's, but with the 101 Turrets he is capable of dealing with a lot of small ships. The Asgard on the other hand can oneshot K's and I's, but has far too little firepower against small ships. When I use an Asgard I usually combine it with 6 to 8 destroyers (Syn or Osaka), which approximately equals the number of Turrets on a Raptor. On a battlefield with small ships they can all be considered as not moving targets, so no difference in mobility either.
@@kermitthefrog1176 Yes, but the fact that if the Asgard lose the engine, can't even turn towards the capitals nearby, while, if the same thing happen to a Raptor, it can just send the fighters to engage, give the Raptor the edge in fleet combat, imo.

I also couldn't get the Raptor or Chimera in Zarth's Dominion even while the shipyard and wharf was still there, because after a certain date they never had enough hull parts any more. I tried bringing a convoy of freighters full of more hull parts than it said it needed three times with a Raptor in the shipyard's queue to be built for me. As soon as the shipyard got the hull parts, instead of finishing my Raptor, it instead immediately added to the empty queue and built some Buffalos and other ships using the hull parts I had brought for my Raptor, and kept telling me there still weren't enough parts to make my Raptor. I never got my Raptor and gave up on the Split. This was using version 6.2. If you're not careful and wait too long, without your own wharf you may not be able to get a Chimera at all.
@@TB-wvvvw Chimera is among the most expensive fighters in X4, so buying them is prohibitive, the player is better of building them in their own wharf. Used fighters so not a fair comparison. I am sure the Asgard with 100 S fighters in tow would likely not fail as well. You cannot compare a fleet to a single ship. Because then you could have Asgard + 2 Tokyo + 80 S fighters vs 1 Raptor.
The Asgard cannot launch and recover 100 S fighters, while the Raptor can. Its all about the ship capabilities. The Asgard have XL battery, the Raptor have 100 S fighters. For example, battleship Yamato is one ship, an US carrier is another ship. Is a SINGLE carrier a fleet?
@@ragnos28 The Asgard can lead 100 S ships. If it makes sense for it to do so is another question. This is not like real life where those 100 airplanes *require* an aircraft carrier to be useful due to refuel and resupply. In X4 you can have loose fighter fleets as they have infinite fuel and only need to resupply if they run out of ammo or take damage. Even then this can be handled by dedicated resupply ships or facilities based on the fleet logistics the player chooses. Once you start to bring in fleets with the Raptor it turns into Raptor + 100 S ships against Asgard + 2 Tokyo + 80 S ships or other compositions. You also used SPL Flak? Currently those are bugged (fixed in a version >5.10) so are one of the worse M turrets. They lack their flak explosion like the ARG Flak has making them a lot less effective.
@@drsupergood8978 Ahh...ok, lets quote from the ships overview: - one Raptor - S ship capacity 100, S docks 21 - one Asgard - S ship capacity 40, S docks 3 So, while the Asgard can lead 100 S ships, the 100 fighters are not part of the ship capacity/capability. At full capacity, an Asgard can only deploy 40 fighters, but the fact that can only do so just 3 at a time and It takes 2 min 44 sec to launch 40 fighters, make this capabilty, highly impractical in high (and low) attention, to such degree that most players never use it (I am one of them). I can launch 100 fighters from a single Raptor, I can't launch 100 fighters from an Asgard. In simple terms, battleships use powerfull guns to do dmg, while carriers use fighters to do dmg. This is as true in real life, as it is in X4. I know that the Raptor can be kitted out for anti capital configuration (all plasma on the turrets), but I use a carrier as a carrier and not as an destroyer. Yes, I use split flack, because as a self imposed in game rule, I don't mix races tech, so split ships must use split tech, terran ships terran tech, and so on.

Well yeah, the Asgard can take a lot of punishment and most xenon sectors are a joke, since the introduction of the silicon nerf, no resources = not many ships. So, most xenon sectors will have about 1 I and 2 Ks and about 10 Ps, and that's it. And while, xenon capitals are close to no threat to an Asgard, the same cannot be said about 20-30 Ps in top of it, when those Ps start targeting turrets. The thing is, after the silicon nerf before mention, the chances of encountering those 20-30 P's, is rather low, and there for is perfectly plausible that you can clear the entire universe with just one Asgard.
@@ragnos28 there are a few mods that kinda tilt the odds back to the xenon, i tend to stop using Asgards once I have a shipyard though and switch to only carrier and destroyer groups. I may save the Zyarth before that point though.
@@chaschristiansen In my curent save I have 14 billions and only two Asgards. And one of them just assist my defence station in Savage Spor II, because using only terran tech makes the defence station kind of "toothless" relying only on missiles for dmg, and those don't excel OOS, because if not, not even the second Asgard would be necesary. The other Asgard is part of my terran fleet, and I only tend to use it when there is a station to demolish. And to summarize why I prefer the Raptor over the Asgard...as I've captured on "film", I've encounter situations in game were the Asgard had its ass handle to it, but the Raptor, once is filled with fighters, I can say that I've never encounter an combat scenario that I did not win, with close to no losses I might add.
@ragnos28 I've never lost an Asgard. Mod the shields, you can get over 5500+ shield regen, that drastically increases the damage you can soak. In terms of fighters, any number of fighters can follow any ship. Even then the asgard has 40 hangers, the same as most carriers.
The Asgard is a TERRAN ship, terrans do not have flak, so terrans ships do not use flak. The Raptor is a SPLIT ship, split have flak, so split ships use flak.
@@iamjoemomma2 Then I would not test a terran ship, but a weird hybrid...and considering that the Raptor have ONLY split tech..that would not be a fair test, would it? Nop, it is the Raptor that won and I'm gonna tell you why. You see, for a carrier, fighters serve the same role as turetts, they are part of the ship capabilities. in RL, when carriers engage battleships, they don't exchange battery fire, they launch their stored fighter complement. So, you are gone tell me that is a great surprise for you that a carrier will launch fighters to atack a target? In short, the Asgard uses XL + main battery to inflict dmg, the Raptor uses a "fleet" of Chimera to inflict dmg. This is what a carrier is, a force multiplier, one ship that can deliver a fleet to the battlefield and doing that, being a superior strategic and tactical asset, to a battleship.
@@ragnos28 Give the Asgard the same amount of fighters and will do even better. I've tried. No more Xenon in my 2 universes (Different game starts). Who will win in that case?
@@Joysizm This is the Asgard launching 40 fighters: th-cam.com/video/j8Yev3qhHS4/w-d-xo.html Notice the huge speed at which the fighters are being launch...3 at a time. Now imagine doing that while under fire from 20 xenon P, 30-40 Xenon M (typical xenon core sector forces). So the fighters being launch will have a 1 vs 20-30 ratio vs the enemy forces. What you think their chances are? Fighters need numbers to be effective, launching only 3 fighters at a time, means that they will be pick off by the swarm and eliminated. Not a valid option, imo.
The thing about the Asgard is that it takes forever to deploy forty fighters and can't maintain or repair them. A raptor can rapidly deploy fighters and rearm them after the battle, making the fighter-raptor fleet more like one whole, rather than a fighter-asguard fleet serving as two separate forces without much synergy
Asgard>Raptor In every scenario. Asgard has more dps in turrets alone, not including the frontal weaponry. Has 4× the shielding and regen, the regen is essentially dmg reduction, if both has terram mk2 shields the raptor can negate 842 dps while the Adgard can soak 3368, and that's just base. Any amount of fighters that follow the raptor can follow the adgard. Docking them is irrelevant.

Among those sectors were by any chance sectors Matrix #451, Matrix #9 or #798? I'm asking this because since the silicon nerf, most xenon sectors will have the "huge" defence force of 1 K and 5 - 10 Ps. And those can be taken out with a single Behemoth.
Where one Asgard fails, send 8 more.

Its the new crystal mining, only more fun :D
Something like this: th-cam.com/video/dCsQwDyy88Q/w-d-xo.html
After that, go after the free destroyer (google or check youtube videos on how to get it), upgrade the destroyer with the earnings from escort miner missions, complete the terran plot, get the free Syn.

@@drsupergood8978 Ahh...ok, lets quote from the ships overview:
- one Raptor - S ship capacity 100, S docks 21
- one Asgard - S ship capacity 40, S docks 3
So, while the Asgard can lead 100 S ships, the 100 fighters are not part of the ship capacity/capability.

Plus, 5 weapon slots alow me to place 1 torpedo launcher for bombers, 1 missile launcher for interceptors, and still have 4 slots to do dmg against enemy fighters, if the ammo is spent.
my asgard was never even close to failing. overtook like 10 xeon systems in a row without taking damage
Not fair since you didn't use ANY flak on the Asgard. You loaded up raptor with flak tho, seems like you are trying to make the Asgard lose.

So its not the raptor who won where the asgard failed but a fleet of chimera !!🤔🧐
@@Joysizm This is the Asgard launching 40 fighters: th-cam.com/video/j8Yev3qhHS4/w-d-xo.html
Notice the huge speed at which the fighters are being launch...3 at a time.
Nice. I can't find a Raptor with full beams hmm
You don't miss much..full beam = light show
Asgard>Raptor In every scenario.

Nowadays, the chances of encountering the 20-30 P's shown in the clip (the only thing that can pose a threat to an Asgard), is rather low, and there for is perfectly plausible that you can clear the entire universe with just one Asgard.
