    So what makes this song tecnically challenging. How is it a grade above say van halen Jump?

    • @MikeBarnesDrums
      @MikeBarnesDrums  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I'd say main challenges here are...
      Nailing the 16th note swing/shuffle feel and staying consistent with that throughout (this is where marks are most often lost on this one I'd say)
      Light, swingy feel in the verses - contrasting with the rock feel of some of the other pieces in this grade.
      Providing musical interest and variety in the creative "ad lib skips" - but without losing forward momentum in the groove.
      Open/close hi-hat being precise and clean - another area where marks are often lost.
      Remember that the challenges presented by each song often differ in nature, and how "technical" something is by far not the only consideration in music performance. Remember as well that this piece is not a "technical focus" song, whereas Jump at Grade 4 is a technical focus one.

    Hi Mike, with the 'vary fills on repeat', do you think they mean only in the verse or in the chorus repeat too? 🤔

    • @MikeBarnesDrums
      @MikeBarnesDrums  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jasmine, thanks for watching. I took it to mean the verse, but if you did change the Chorus fill slightly and it sounded good, I'm sure that'd be fine too. Mike :)

    At 9:18 , is the snare meant to be with the high-hat?

    • @MikeBarnesDrums
      @MikeBarnesDrums  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey man, thanks for watching. The first snare of the little variation is played on the "e" of beat 3, between the hi-hats. The second snare is played on the "4", in sync with the hi-hat.
      If you're referring to the first half of the bar (bar 12), it might be with the hi-hat or not, depending on what you're playing in order to "continue similarly" the groove at bar 9!
      Hope that makes sense man, cheers!

      I have to say, most importantly of all, make it feel good and groove. Loving the attention to detail, but not as big a deal as the feel of the thing man! :)
