My second cruise was on the Destiny in 1993 (I think?) First cruise was on Ecstasy (I cried when I saw her beached). I was shocked by the size of the Destiny, I thought she was HUGE. I love your vlogs. Thank you for sharing. I hope to sail again, someday on Cunard (did QM2 2008/9) and hope you are on board.
Honestly I think in the future you should make a video about Silja Line's promenade vessels, the Silja Serenade and Silja Symphony, and the effect they had on the cruising industry
Great video, will have to check out the podcast. By 2013 Destinys reputation was so damaged, they felt the need to perform an extensive renovation and rename the vessel. Another ship whose reputation was so damaged, Carnival Triumph was renovated and renamed.
I've been on the ship pre and post refurbishment. Both decors and venues fit the era it was in at the time. As much as it was a game changer at the time, it could very well spawn a resurgence of full amenities 100 to 130k ton ships, as passengers express their want for such a product. That is the perfect size to replace the 75 to 90k ton ships.
Dude as a fellow maritime historian I just love seeing others make amazing documentaries. Especially since she was Teds last ship. Not Levitsons last ship though, but Mickey kept the cofounder families out. The coolest thing was going to college with Levinsons grandson and he use to wear the Mardi Gras stack pin on his hat. He’s now a captain and still can’t go to the meetings.
I did my first seven night balcony cruise on Destiny in 1999. Good memories…

Have you cruised Carnival Destiny? Or Sunshine? Did you enjoy the experience?
Not Destiny/Sunshine, but I have sailed on the Holiday, Valor and Liberty!
Not that one, but Valor, Pride, and Miracle!
Nope
My first cruise was a five night on Destiney 2009. I then sailed Sunshine in 2019. Had a blast both cruises.

Terrific video - so well presented
Wonderful Chris .
I was on this ship back in December 2004. Had a fun time with my immediate and extended family on the trip.

Saw Destiny in Miami in 1996 and thought she was the biggest thing id ever seen. now she's a baby!!
Technically SS Norway could be considered the first mega cruise ship. And she proved that large cruise ships could be successful.
Amen.
Fair point. I’ll do a video on her in the coming months. Remarkable ship.

I think he meant purpose built
Another great documentary. I always thought they were ugly, until the monstrosities with no lines that we have today.

And to think: nowadays I don't know if we can even call Destiny and ships of her class mega ships anymore. 😂
Can brittannia class use the boxes in the thereter on cunard
Only ever seen the Holiday class and Fantasy class
been on splendour in sydeney
I wonder why they renamed her.
