For all of it's janky equipment and character construction mechanics. D20 modern was by far my favorite system to run back in the 00's. The third party publisher content for it was lush with every setting imaginable from Evil Dead to Firefly. The Future books were amazing fun to use and as a group that wasn't shy about home brew; we created some really incredible settings for it.
The crafting rules were non-terrible and made running zombie, apocalypse, and dirty space scenes enjoyable for anyone playing a grease monkey character. Being able to throw an impinging enemy force at the PCs and them being able to make simple DC skill checks to build obstructions using what they had on hand; without being penalized for using the craft system was a massive breath of fresh air (here's leering at you 3.X D&D.)
When played heavily all the tool marks of the writers come out in full. It's apparent the struggle that occurred between making it D&D set in the 21 century and making it something good on it's own. It's generic enough and D20 enough to be sculpted into any scene or scenario without learning a new system; which was good enough for a bunch of high school kids playing it back in the 00's.

Wacky coincidence, if we're thinking of the same thing, I actually reviewed that Evil Dead d20 Modern supplement back in 2018.

If 'Athlete' gives you a choice of unarmed combat or archaic weapons, then it's really not 'Athlete', it's 'Martial Artist'.

It's probably to differentiate between a boxer (prizefighter) or Olympic fencer where you're fighting competively and not trying to kill your opponent.

D20 modern is an... interesting system. Definitely one meant for more broad Gamez than just combat heavy games, since like half the classes aren't made for fighting

I really love what you did with the "play every adventure you can imagine" part it reminds me a lot of Violence

This is a great video. Maybe one day you will make a character using Everyday Heroes - the update to D20 Modern with the same designers.

Well you know, there's a really good way to make that more likely to happen.

I had no idea d20 Modern even existed! I got some nostalgia tingles thinking about D&D 3.5 rules again. Those were good times. Thanks for creating the video. I always enjoy these character builds.

Well can't wait to see what happens when you do Gamma World 6th, which either uses this or 3.5 D&D. I'm not even kidding, on the cover.

It's d20 Modern. It even specifically _doesn't_ give you stats for humans so that you need to get them from the d20 Modem book. A choice I will definitely have things to say about.

AP was really cool and the description of what they represent is really good. Like basically Indiana Jones uses an AP a few times in every movie. That sort of extra cool unrealistic cinematic action hero stuff AP makes that stuff possible in-game.

I mostly used d20 modern as a resource pool for my expanded dnd 3.x roster - and still use it today for that; as my character building spirals increasingly out of control.
Also: you can't take Imrpoved Brawl as your level 3 feat - it requires base attack bonus +3 and tough hero uses the medium bab track; so you wouldn't qualify until level 4. Apologies for the nitpick.

Oh boy. Ok, so since you've covered a bunch of stuff, i've only really got four systems i'd like to see you try and LMUAC in:
Numenera/Cypher, because i'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on monte cook's solo outing.
Cortex prime, But with the caveat that you can only do it by looking at what's in the book, no using online examples. Also a hard mode: make a character with powers without using power sets.
and the hellish nightmare that is burning wheel. No caveats here, the system itself is enough of an obstacle.

Rolemaster Standard System. When we played it we had each our characters in an excel sheet:)

I loved d20 modern. Our group played a crime investigation/semi-cthonic monstrosity d20 modern game back in the day. My tough hero with archaic weapon longsword was a badass not at all based somewhat on blade.

Say, a mere suggestion, but have you thought on making a Hunter The Reckoning character sheet?

After seeing this I now understand the steps to get from dnd 3.5 -> Star Wars Saga Edition. A lot of similar concepts between both d20 modern & SW Saga

I started using this system not long after it came out for a Day Zero post apocalyptic game that brought in elements of the fantastic. I pulled from this bestiary as well as D&D and other d20 game books. Still run the campaign setting once or twice a year.

Flawed as it was, this was probably my favorite of the 3.x DnD family, case in point 8:57 given how ridiculously high some of the Class Defense bonuses could get, armor should really have provided damage reduction instead

You should create a character for "Everyday Heroes". It's d20 Modern done in 5th Edition. Even down to a lot of the same people working on it.

There were lots of 3rd party supplements for d20 Modern, some of them were about Martial Arts ( they weren't bad)

Do the physical and mental attributes have different ability modifiers? I ask this because wisdom has a +2 modifier when the table you showed said it should be a +1 modifier. What gives?

You should try Alternity. The not D&D game system WotC tried first. A couple of their (imo, really cool, although I was like 9 or 10) settings migrated over to d20 Modern
