for sure, the man who was first in line for live reports in this edition of "citypulse tonight" never thought that years after this clip was aired, he would be the one anchoring that same newscast with his trademark voice.
always admired mark dailey since i first saw him on TV after i moved to here nearly 2 years ago...he's definitely one of my fave anchors!

I was 1 month old when this was made. Crazy to look back at a world I can't remember being alive for.

I watch this and I say, where did the time go? All this seems like yesterday.

I think the VO is Peter Gross, who pronounces Martineau's name in a weird way so it does sound like he's saying Mark...no!

I can't imagine any news anchor using this kind of language on television these days

sorry, ran out of characters in my last reply...
what i meant was, while i was watching this clip on my laptop, the same time the african lion safari ad came on, there was a lucy zilio advertorial on TV (and on citytv, in particular) for african lion safari. what a coinky-dink.

lol @ annie's "emphatic reporting"...i gotta agree with that, though. but martineau also does tend to emphasize some words, too.
plus points for The Mark because of the occasional adlibs--especially on the 11pm broadcast he so lovingly calls "the big show".

"which they say now is doing the trick" hey that's good

  • @mangdannyboy

did the VO just say "mark...no, anne mroczkowski" right there? and was that JD doing the VO? :D
loved that 10pm theme music more than the 6pm show's "gotta fly now"...best of all, love anne mroczkowski's hair! :D

listened to that part again: yeah, you're right, VO actually says "martineau and mroczkowski", but gord's last name comes out as "mart-no"...i don't think it's gross' voice, though, 'cause his voice sounds a tad bit like russ salzberg's...
funny how, when i played this clip again, right on the african lion safari part, an "in touch with lucy zilio" advertorial on african lion safari comes out--on citytv, too.

    LOL@ Today's Citynews @ 11. The news watch stops @ 7pm then they toss on a repeater of the 6pm news @ 11PM
Some lady does live weather and another lady that barely has anything to say. She just reads news from earlier in the day basically. SAD.
They were a lot better YEARS AGO when the 11PM top story was "Here's what's happening RIGHT NOW" and they went live to news...I miss those days. Long live CTV Toronto news!!!

That motel strip is still there. I grew up near there too and still live near there. But, yes there are LOTS of condos going up over there.

I miss the days CityTv was cool and cutting-edge. It seems kind of toned down and conservative now. Silverman helps: gone. Ed the Sock: Poof. Speaker's corner: no more. CP24 and MuchMusic are now owned by CTV and CityTv is owned by Rogers. CityTv and CP24 are now competing stations, even though a few of the same former CityNews personalities exist on CP24. It's so weird to see Ann Rohmer part of a competeing station but still in the same building. Le sigh.

      City was killed by Rogers.
