Glad to hear you;re still riding! After recently seeing a few videos of both the actual suspension of the two upcoming wheels and some of the DIY solutions some people have made, it seems like everyone who tried it is in love with suspension. I feel like a lot of the complaints like speakers will probably be solved with after market additions (if you love something you find ways to excuse the flaws) while people who are less inclined to leap on early adoption will likely shine a light on those issues, unless they're objective issues that no one can deny like maybe if the shock actually damages parts of the EUC. assuing there aren't any obvious flaws like that I've been thinking the Inmotion wheel will probably be a better city ride for cobblestone streets and potholes while the KS wheel will be the off road king.
Certainly, if the suspensions works it will be a giant leap forward. However given the history if issues in testing and design, I worry that it won't ship working correctly. If you remember, the KS16x shipped with a bug that would cause the rider to be thrown from side to side wobbles induced after heavy acceleration and heavy breaking. Yes they tuned this down, but that behavior is still there even with the new motherboard and firmwares in my wheel - just not as violent (I encountered it on yesterdays ride). As for the speakers,. frankly if I spend $2k on a wheel, I don't have to have to modify it after market.
@@michaelpaolini Early adopter tax. Someone wants it so badly they're willing to be the one with the first one and even put up with short comings, but that also means they might be the one with the first broken one too in some cases. I've said much the same about suspension, but people want it so badly that some will take that hit just to say whether it works or what could be done better. Just hope they have the disposable cash to get the inevitable S18XL and V11f upgrades or whatever they might be called while the "sensible" folk wait for reports from the front lines.
Good comparison. I've been riding my Z10 every day to keep my feet in shape. The weird alarm limit is gone since I reset my iphone, so I have to think it was a software thing. Man, that S18 looks sick - like a skeletal Z10.
Hey Michael how are you doing yesterday I put a new controller in my KS16X it came with new Firmware 2.02 did yours come with the same and if not did you upgrade the firmware did your temps change I think I’m really enjoying the ride right now I don’t have no random tilt backs when I’m playing Pandora and it feels really solid I would like to get your input on that please it was a tough job for me it took me almost 5 hours but I didn’t have power drills LOL thanks again 👍
My board was v2.01 and did not come with the new firmware (2.02 was not out at that time I when I did it). But I have updated to version 2.02 using the Softener app. It's been raining here so I haven't logged enough miles on 2.02 to really have an opinion yet. I do know that 2.02 brought updates in terms of the EUC reporting it's numbers correctly to the app (previously not all the numbers were reported correctly). It also brought changes to the charging of the batteries, and a user adjustable incline tilt (I'm told but have to tested). It's been a rock solid wheel for me, once I upgraded the motherboard. Hope it continues that way. :-) Happy riding.
Big Mike, great video.. Thanks for making it. I agree with every single point made bro. I loved the 16x and waited till April 2020 to buy one just to give them enough time to work out all the bugs. And because I waited, I got the new board, new motor and new sidepads on the latest batch. I love the hell out of the S18 but I'll be waiting on that one too. Ride safe big guy. Peace
Good Intel and a few things to think about...I purchased the 16X as my 1st wheel/Learner and have loved the experience (with the exception of experiencing a cut off @ 30MPH) I purchased it at release and have just turned 50 myself (good to hear I'm not nuts for getting into this at a seemingly late stage) I'm looking to purchase a 2nd wheel as a solid backup option as I've had to do repairs to the 16X which left me without the ability to get my rides in. I was all set to get an MSP but then started hearing rumblings about the MSS (and a review of it by WrongWay) and possibly a MSP 2.0 on the horizon (as you mentioned here about updates being released shortly after the originals) Wanted to get your take on a potential 2nd purchase when you get a moment. Thanks!
I think Gotway makes fun to ride to ride wheels, but their mSuper line ergonomics just sucks. Coming from the KS16x, you are going to feel at home on them riding (moving) but really hate it the rest of the time. :). That being said, you can never go wrong with the mSuper line they are tanks and extremely capable and fun to ride (but their styling is very 2016). Since it’s a second wheel, I’d be inclined to either wait for this next generation of suspension to stabilize - or if I had to have an EUC soon-ish pickup up a used 2019/2018 for a good price (so I didn’t feel guilty while it sat once your KS16x is fixed. Also from my perspective the direction you go for that second wheel ought to be for a different riding experience as well - so it’s not just a backup, but something that gives variety and keeps riding fresh. It sounds like You are also leaning forward top end speed, something greater than 30mph? If that’s the case you might want to check out a Monster. If top speeds isn’t a concern, maybe something like a z10 with that 18x4.1 tire would be fun (their are rumors of an update from Ninebot also in the wind). And of course, I have to believe Gotway has something we haven’t seen yet in the works as the can’t be left out of the 2020 releases and suspension game. Which I had better thoughts for you. For myself, I’m torque biased and tend to ride in the 25 mph range, so if it were me AND I was going with the mSuper body style and new, I’d be thinking mSuper Pro
@@michaelpaolini Wow, quick response and again, good Intel! 👍🏽I agree I'm looking for a different riding experience which is why I was leaning towards a Gotway wheel. I don't particularly have a need for speed but have gotten a little frustrated at times by the "Slow Down" alert (I have it set at 28 MPH) depending on where I'm traveling. I live in the outskirts of Atlanta so don't have the NYC issue of keeping up with and sometimes surpassing traffic either, honestly, not a lot of EUC riders, though I did finally come across one recently at our Piedmont Park along with a couple of One Wheelers. Maybe something with the capacity to do 35+ if the need arises but not with any regularity. I think I'll hold off for another couple of months to see what comes up (if anything) while also looking into your suggestions as well. Again, Great advise! Looking forward to the next post sir!
Good update. You're the first to point out the external battery option on the s18, that is one of the things I was hoping for , swappable batteries or external option. The GW handle was my biggest concern in ordering my new wheel. I came up to 16x and MSP to replace my V10F. Loved the handle of the 16x as I do a lot of trolleying. But I decided on the MSP for 18 wheel ride and torque of the bugger motor for better off road command. I will have to suffer on the handle issue. Maybe come up with a mod🤔. As for the suspensions coming out, at 55 my body could benefit from them,,,I will wait for the dust to settle on these new itterations. Cheers
Good luck on the mod - if you get it to work Gotway owners everywhere will love you! I do love the feel of a Gotway wheel and silence of their motors. And I'm with you on the suspension and hoping they get it right and that it will be we hope it is. Fingers crossed. It will be a long 6 month wait if the reviews are positive, but getting a near final version will be worth the wait I suspect.
It’s been a long time. Please, help me understand why King Song and Inmotion decided to introduce a suspension, when the marrying of range and speed has not been upgraded? Maybe, it’s just me, but it seems as if the two companies are choosing gimmicks to hook enthusiast. Correct me if I am wrong, but there was no outcry from the customer base for suspensions technology. I totally agree with not choosing these wheels, unless there are hidden jewels upon release. Do you have any information on the new EUC company Veteran? Also, have you heard of any rumors of a Mini Monster by Gotway release? Many Thanks
:-) There has been a long time request for suspension - I'd see it in the forums every so often. The reason it is brought up is the same reason suspension occurred in bicycles, motocross, motorcycles, and autos. Safety and Comfort (assuming it works correctly). Both of are of increasing value as speed increases. At low speeds, a bump isn't a big deal, but at high speeds they hit like a ton of bricks and destabilizes the vehicle and pilot. In the simplest terms, if you think about why motorcross have shocks given how little the riders seem to be in contact with the vehicle, it's really about pushing the tires into contact with the surface as fast as possible - because if you aren't in contact with the surface, you aren't in control. The shock absorber actually pushes the tire into the ground after the tire has been pushed away from it. This is arguably more important for a one wheeled self balancing vechicals. Also without suspension, people are seeking large tires to serve the purpose of suspension in the tires wall, frequently lowering the tire pressure below the recommended tires pressure in an effort to absorb more shock (which is unsafe from many reasons). So I think as the EUC vendors see increased riding speeds, they are also looking for how do you increase safety at the same time. And they are borrowing from vehicle models that have gone before. Does that make sense?

I do know they are talking about the 2.0 version of the KingSong Software, but in the IOS app store I haven't seen it. What's there is the stopgap software SoftTuner which I understand isn't the final software.... All that being said, I think the fact you referenced the 2020 16x and all those changes on a wheel that is less than a year old, really just makes the point, nobody should be racing to get the first or second batch.
