The two tricks in this video are actually pretty simple: For the big shells, you just have to jump on top of them and hold jump -That's really it! And while your method worked with the cranes, the trick was to jump into it from below so you get that upward momentum.
@@pearkore6821 You'll notice he actually jumps from the bottom the first time he lands the jump, with room to spare. Mario maker comes with left and right buttons, so pressing left off the note block will line you up beneath the claw and against the wall. Crazy stuff
For that crane jump, you can hit the nearest note block to go straight up into the crane so it rises upward and you essentially use it like a double jump in a romhack. You get to jump the second time from higher up in the air.
When he got it the first time (I paused the video, maybe he gets it a second time) he touched the wall before the claw. I think that's the trick, because it stops his movement to the left completely and allows him to get a bit more movement to the right. That was the trick in a free fall level I played when SMM2 was new. At first I tried to cut the corners as close as possible, but I was always lacking momentum at some point. When I started to always touch the outer wall before changing direction I made fast progress and cleared the level shortly afterwards. Also coming from below helps too, so I guess the trick is to combine both, but coming from below was the easy part to figure out, hence I eloborated the wall part.
I actually 'discovered' this tech when I was tinkering with stuff when I first bought the game- I made an Uno Mas that exploits the horizontal AND vertical momentum of the claw, (albeit with a nearly frame perfect jump.) So what I did was I had a claw just above a donut, you'd hop in the claw, get it swinging as fast as you can back and forth, then as you're swinging to the right you drop off the claw, hit the donut, and the claw re-grabs you- You have a very short window between when the claw hits the top of its swing and when you're bouncing upwards off the donut while still in the claw to jump out- And the way I had it set up, it gives you a massive momentum fling.
The first time you did the infuriating jump you actually bounced from the trampoline against the wall UNDER the crane, then had a slightly right-upwards momentum going into the crane from below, then jumped almost instantly from the crane conserving that momentum, you had quite some room to spare!
In a surprise twist on today's episode the Mario Maker gods take their Ryuvenge on our hero as punishment for trying to leave on his own terms after the ultimate run from last episode.
Hey Ryu. I've been watching you play mario maker for about a year now and I finally went out and got a switch. I'm trying to beat all your levels. So far I've only beaten 2 but they've made me so much better. Its crazy how easy you make it look
@@killer12plyh8The pressure got to him. I mean wouldn't you get anxious on the 17th level of a no skip run? If he had one or two more live he would have beaten it.
That Japanese stage was ridiculously fun to watch. Masterful level with off-rhythm jumps, having an odd number of enemies attacking that are hard to get right. And that infernal hook jump, in the end the last challenge that was hidden with the darkness, everything was so nicely done. And good job finishing that level.
Not lame at all! Pop culture reference at the best! And when you like a level that is so fudging hard and kicked your arse for real, that is good sportmanship. Well done
In the dark SMB3 Level you could have used the left note block to jump into the swinging claw from below. If you jump from below you get a lot of momentum. That's a bit easier and more consistent than your method.
You probably know this by now, but for the big shells trick, I jump into the shell, do a small bounce then a big bounce to climb. You can do it just by holding jump, but the small bounce first is a little more reliable and controllable.
After theorizing for years that Ryu was a Seinfeld fan due to the way he's said certain phrases in the past, and has had video titles like "My Worlds are Colliding"... The way he said "The Wiz" in this episode has finally confirmed it for me.

the way that claw jump is supposed to work is you jumping into the claw from below and as close to the wall as possible, that way the claw swings up and gives you that momentum you need but i suppose the patented ryuswing trick does also work :P
I'm a huge fan of Ryukahr and I'll pay money to see the Man with Infinite Patience lose his sh$t and cry @10:02 mark where he says it is the most infuriating jump of all time.
The problem is that you're not jumping from the edge of the platform, you need to initially bop the shell from underneath like elsewhere in the level. This makes the shell come out of the cage before you get your full jump on it, lining you up for the next one.
Oops. Well at least I can feel better about my own goofs when even outstanding players like Ryu make them sometimes. Goes to show how stunting it is to let your thinking get into a rut where you just assume something has to be done in one particular way when it doesn't. The "Crane Jump" you just jump up directly into the crane instead of around and down into it. And the shells you just jump down on like normal without bopping them first. Those shells are set up like a forced reclaim shell jump and it pretty much just works automatically as long as you come down on them from above and don't hit them to the side first.
That wasn't no skip though, and it makes all the difference in the world. My skip high score in Expert is 9, no skip is 2... getting 17 no skip in super expert is indeed huge.
