  • I was sent this board by Arylic to try out and give my honest opinion. I believe the reason they contacted me was because I've often used bluetooth boards to add BT to the tube radios that I restore.
    I'm always a little wary about these gifts in exchange for a review, but fortunately the decision here was simple: It is a great bit of gear!
    I go through the set-up of the unit and test it out in this video.
    Enjoy.

    I have been looking at Arylic recently and I am glad you had a chance to review this. I trust your review on this device.
    You've convinced me to give a few of these modules a go for multi-room audio, which seems to be what they are designed for. I believe, from what the rep told me, they can also stream from the Line-in to mutliple devices so you can distribute audio from line-in on one device to multiple devices.

      I have been quite happy with this system since I first tried it, and am currently building a set of speakers for the version with built-in amp, precisely for multi room use.

      @@electronicsoldandnew I would be interested in a video on it if you have time. I think this Arylic system is a serious contender for the market Sonos has tried to capture, especially with Sonos killing support for some of their earlier, and quite expensive, speakers.
      Older tube radios all setup in a multi-room audio does sound interesting too :)

      This system is also multi-room audio. If you have 2 or 3 of them, you can synchronise music between them and transfer music between the devices.
      It also has full spotify-connect and other online music services.

    Thanks for the review. I saw that they gave you 2 devices, have you tried pairing them over bluetooth so you can output audio from your mobile to 2 seperate amplifiers at the same time? I'm interested in diy speakers that can be joined together for a louder output.

      Yes, that works. Currently I’m using it as multi-room setup, streaming the same audio to the two rooms, but you can operate them separately as well.

    Looks like a good device, albeit a bit pricey for what i am (or maybe most of us are) doing. I might go this way if i ever get my hands on a top line stereo radio i.e. Saba Freiburg 9/11.....
    Do you know if it can work this way : analog input ->up2stream-> (portable ) bluetooth speaker ?
    I tried the faq on their website but couldnt find sth .
    As always thanks for the upload. Cheers.

    What's the advantage in paying fifty bucks for this opposed to just buying a $35.00 R-Pi?

    • @electronicsoldandnew
      @electronicsoldandnew  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is a very difficult question to answer. If you go into the topic of hi-fi audio preferences, you’re opening a hornets nest. Everyone has strong opinions, and it’s safer to not argue :)

    • @tayro7265

      @@electronicsoldandnew I ask because I built a multimedia stereo. It has a 1964 Maranz pre-amp clone followed by a 600w transistor amp and various pre-amp modules for tone, eq, vol, fm radio etc.
      To tie it to the internet and give it a vid out I used a Pi. I'm more interested in audio output clarity than anything so didn't know if this unit had any claims to provide better performance. Or at this point would it be negligible?

    • @EsotericArctos
      @EsotericArctos 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A Raspberry Pi, out of the box, does none of what this device does. It is just a computer. This device is a dedicated music device. It is designed to stream audio from different sources and to be a multi-room audio device. Multiple of these can link together and play the same music in different rooms. Basically, this is the equivalant of a Sonos system, but without the main amplifier and speaker.
      Sure, you could likely do the same on a Raspberry Pi, with a lot of mucking around to get software and self-maintaining to try and get all the online services connected and then you'd have to work on how to get multi-room working without any lag or delay between devices. I am always up for DIY, but to me, $35 for a Raspberry Pi and the muck around, vs $50 for one that works out of the box .... $15 saves me hours of time, plus you get a nice app with everything integrated.

      What? Are you saying that if I connect this to my receiver, via a switchable power connection, that every time I turn the receiver off and then back on again, I will have to reconfigure the Arylic unit? ie. are you suggesting that every time when you power up the unit, you have to reconfigure? That can’t be the case….I must be misunderstanding what you are suggesting…please advise

      After power loss it’s back up automatically

      So here is my update. The good: The Arylic unit automatically reconnects to the wifi unit it was already paired with, each time it is turned on. The bad: I have a constant ‘tick, tick, tick’ sound coming from my speakers now. I soldered the Arylic mini to the tape 2 input of my receiver. I used an Apple branded (little white cube) power supply that I solderedinside the receiver - to the common and switched powe. Maybe some sort of shielding is required????
