    Nice idea. This is a nice way to recyle your old (HIFI)speakers.

      Why? It's just a low-cost power amp. It's not any better than any decent vintage transistor amp. Except that it doesn't have an input selector, not even an accessible volume control - so the user still needs some sort of control preamp.

      @@DrCassette Aye aye, Sir! And all I saw was, well, described above.
      Seriously, the only thing that could justify the surgery would be a room-response-correcting DSP - but so far it's in a different price bracket. Without it, it's just DIY for the sake of it.

    Nice review, great sound, and an achievable project. However, having purchased a number of items that rely on external apps that have subsequently been discontinued and been left with expensive bricked units, so this is not for me. If there was a comparable unit with screen and software onboard I would purchase one to revive my old speakers.
    Thanks for sharing.

      Hi, I was going to make a similar comment but if you look at the end of the video at around 22:00 the system does support a standalone mode via bluetooth. I would still argue it would be nice to have a screen and some controls to be able to use the wifi system without an app since we know those might get killed or its cloud services discontinued in the future. Great video DrC!

    Could you please make an audio comparsion with a cassette player plugged on AUX?
    Thank you.

      I might experiment with the AUX input and what functions are available for that.

    I like the inclusion of a subwoofer output. Presumably the volume of that changes with the speakers?

    • @DrCassette
      @DrCassette  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, it would make sense if it did. I have not tested that though.

    Nice system. I just bought a set of active speakers for my TV from Argon (Hifi Klubben) and I'm impressed with them. I have a set of old Creative T20s lying around which of course already have an amp but I want to built in a bluetooth receiver module in that. I hope you can do something like that on the channel too.

    • @DrCassette
      @DrCassette  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, adding a bluetooth receiver module to some existing product is a project I am hoping to do at some point.

    1.5x playback speed yields much better mainstream-style TH-cam cadence. Would recommend.

    • @DrCassette
      @DrCassette  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I watch most TH-cam videos at 1.5x playback speed, my own videos I watch at 2x playback speed. There is nothing wrong with saving some time ;)

    Did you find the amplifier has built in bass and treble lift? So many powered speakers these days have this dreadful sound EQ that you cannot removed, like Edifier.

    • @DrCassette
      @DrCassette  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is an EQ available in the app interface, which was set to flat in this video.

    What happens if disconnect power from the plate amp? Does it auto connect to the Wifi once power is reestablished?

    • @DrCassette
      @DrCassette  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, it does reconnect automatically and lets you know with a voice announcement.

    That's great! An excellent device. I make those with cheap chinese devices. And maybe is time to get the next level. Greetings

    I assume that 5w resistor doesn’t actually get hot.

    • @DrCassette
      @DrCassette  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did not test that. The plate amp does seem to produce a bit of heat, the plate gets warm after some time of running the amp.
