Hi Ms. B! I shared on Facebook, Twitter and I pinned it to my ukulele folder on Pinterest! I have no idea where my Instagram account went but when I find it I'll be sure to share it there also. Thanks for everything! Grabbing the PDF now :-)
You all probably dont give a shit but does someone know of a way to get back into an instagram account?? I was dumb forgot my login password. I would love any help you can offer me.
You are very intuitive and anticipate the thoughts and movements of your students (me) as well as the helpful hints to move hand position in order to best reach the proper string/cords. This has been immensely helpful to me. You are challenging without being overwhelming. And I enjoy your work so very much and appreciate the thoughtfulness and goodness in you as a quality person who clearly loves music and wishes GOOD music to be passed on to others. Thank you. I wanted to add how you encourage to make beautiful music and lovely noise and not just grind out sound. So, so, helpful.
D to E7. Hold the ring finger on the c string(3rd string). Drop the pinky use pointer on the G sting. Lift up the third finger. We are balancing the ring finger and moving two fingers down and one finger up. Your way three fingers go into the air and move. Good job. Mine way is just different.
Very clear teaching method and the screen notations were easy for me to follow, Well done. I'm complete new to the ukulele and making music. Therefore I'm struggling around TH-cam for best practices and techniques that suit me. This lesson is one of the best I have found. Thank you. Si
Hola Bernadette, thank you for another excellent tutorial. I have had my ukulele for 8 days now and thanks to you, i can already play 3 songs. I love that your tutorials show a beginner like me how to play the songs using basic strumming techniques, but you also suggest more advanced strumming and fingerstyle techniques to work at. I hope that I can catch one of you live streams soon, you are awesome!!!
Good idea for fretting the D chord using fingers 2-3-4 instead of 1-2-3! On many songs, a "hawaiian" D7 can be subtituted for the D chord. Fingering is 2-0-2-0.
Ahhh.. Another songs from my childhood. My mom always plays this song on cassette. Thanks for this tutorial. Gonna learn and play it for my mom. She must be surprise I remembered this song.
Honestly besides your beauty your the best uk. teacher on U-tube very detailed and not intimidating your now my go to uk.teacher thanks again and keep up the good work.
I played it all the way through! Which officially makes this the first full song I've learnt for ukulele! Thank you! Now just to keep on practicing, improving and learning more 💜
Ronnie Ball WHAT!?!? Omg!!!!!!! YAY!!!!!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 that is a HUGE accompliment!!! I’m so proud of you!!! This is a great first song too, so make sure you never forget which one was your first song. People will ask ;)
Something that helped me with switching from Am to E7 was that I kept my pointer finger on the first string first fret so the only fingers that have to do anything are my middle and ring
There was a time, a year ago (approx) you sang little & said you felt not quite right doing so. I'm glad you got over that idea...& I saw your spanish language duet with your mariachi strumming friend, your singing was just right in that song!
luv ur teaching method ms.B. very useful for us, newbies. jst got my ukulele few days ago. currently practicing nursery rhymes with my 6 month old baby girl.
riley whynot Riley, you are melting my heart!!! 😭😭😭😭 that is the sweetest thing I’ve ever heard!!!! Glad you liked this tutorial and it’s helping you!!! 😘 give baby a hug from me 🤗
Thank you! I just started playing the uk a week ago and I'm loving it. This tutorial is so great even I can follow it. I now know how to play and sing my first song, that's not twinkle, twinkle! I just need to learn how to make cleaner sounding chords and to switch them cleaner and faster, but that'll come with practice and when my finger tips stop hurting 😂 Looking forward to looking through your other tutorials. Thanks!
Olivia Gruschow Yay!!!! You are officially a part of the uku fam, Olivia!!! 💛💛💛 which one is your favorite tutorial so far? (That way I can make more like it)
I'm so excited! and I really love all of them but I like when u talked about common mistakes and beginner tips so then I knew what habits I should or shouldn't form, or simple tutorials like this that I can follow along to still and feel like I accomplished something great 😊
You are SMART!!!! Now, if only everyone started there, then many people would avoid TONS of ukulele problems!! I'm so proud of you ;) gold star student 💛💛💛
@@BernadetteTeachesMusic It went so well! I was so relieved! All your tips from the 30 Day Challenge and from this song, were so helpful! You're a great teacher! So glad I found you!
Really liked the part when you replicated Frank's strumming pattern. I have to admit I've never seen that in a Ukulele tutorial before. Truly unique, Ms. B
Loved the cover, apologies for not replying sooner, I've been a bit busy while I missed a large chunk of the 20K live stream (congratulations) as it was the same time as the British Fencing finals. You and Frank made me want to use the squeeze technique more in my playing. It's similar to a hammer-on although as your finger is already on the string, the travel distance is significantly smaller.
This is a beautiful tutorial! I was doing a different tutorial for this song and it was so hard! Em to B7 ... Ugh! I lost my mind a little bit. But yours is beautiful and lovely and THANK YOU!
Thanks, Bernadette! This song sounded very familiar to me and I wasn't sure why. After looking up the lyrics, I realized this is a George Gershwin composure/song. I must have first heard this while watching PBS (back when we only had 4 channels to choose from) back in the late 1970's or early '80's. PS, I really love your teaching style and hope you keep on cranking out all your tutorials and tips. I know it is a lot of work in addition to everything else in life. You have such a great vibe and I'm so glad you've chosen to share your musical knowledge with all of us "out here." :)
Ahh, Summer time. Love the sound of the Am-E7-Am-E7, sounds like a warm gentle breeze through the trees. That was inspired of Frank, he has an amazing voice. That squeeze technique makes the notes sound like birds jumping from branch to branch in a summertime sunrise. Frank gave me an idea. I don't know if it would be too difficult to edit.......but, How about you ask us all to play the same song and send it to you. You take a line from each song, combine them and make it one song of our collective voices. I think all the different players from around the world, singing in the same song would sound cool. Would that be a mashup? I don't now if this makes sense? Hopefully You know what mean. Maybe for the future, as a celebration, for when your channel reaches a milestone number of followers. A collective "Hallelujah" for your channels success and Our ever improving playing success. Just a sunny thought brought on by playing a Summer Time song. Katie will like this video, they're getting snow! Got to say bye for now, my uku is calling :) Wonderful weekend all.
By chance I discovered the PDF of this lesson, saw the easyyyyy chords and grabbed my uke to play the first chords. But the chords did not fit to the music in my head so I came here to watch you playing and singing (what I would have done later anyway)... and here everything is just perfect. So, now I know what was missing for me... THE FIRST NOTE! That would be my suggestion for your PDFs or even for your tutorials.
Bernadette, Got up this morning and checked my email; something I don't away do. You had posted Summer time. Than you sang the words, and I was hooked; your voice is beautiful. Been working on it off and on today. Dm is a new cord for me, but it is coming along. I really like your advice on finger arrangement. On the pdf. file I printed it and was playing off of it. When I followed along with you on you tube. I got into trouble with the strumming. Dm E7 F have four strokes. I added them to the sheet and will continue. This is my second song that I am learning. Had the Ukulele for a few years and never did a thing with it. Been about five weeks of playing most days; I have learned the D and the awful E that everybody talks about. I have sent your pdf. file out to two of my friends one in Canada and the other in Washington on the main land. Larry
A very nice and comprehensive tutorial of a great classic American song. Your thorough explanation of finger placement and easy chord transition is very helpful. 19,000 subscribers! Congratulations B.

Awesome. Nice and easy play along. I used Kirby's (kirbyscovers on TH-cam) pinky mute to silence the open strings on the squeeze, just bringing the lonely little finger across the strings below the chord like the most failed barre of failed barres.
Love this song this time of the year! Thank you for the tutorial! Also, i loved the fact that you spoke a bit of spanish in your last video, would you consider doing a spanish song/tutorial? That would be amazing! Have a great weekend!

Awesome. Nice and easy play along. I used Kirby's (kirbyscovers on TH-cam) pinky mute to silence the open strings on the squeeze, just bringing the lonely little finger across the strings below the chord like the most failed barre of failed barres.
I also used my DIY felt pick. (thank you again) It gave it a nice even mellow feeling without the click from my fingernails.
Oh, wow. I’ve never heard of this pinky mute. I’ll have to try!!! 😄 glad you liked the tutorial and found it easy! 💛💛💛 that means the world to me!
