I tabbed out the whole song to the isolated track. Then I checked it against the studio track to see if anything stood out as specifically right or wrong. I want to trust but verify the isolated track. From there, I took a look at live videos to check positionings and verify the isolated track. The last video shows Duff really well and confirms all the big-picture stuff for me. There are too many live videos to go through all of them though
• Sweet Child O' Mine (B...
Isolated track of Duff's playing. Made it easy to tab the majority of the song
The tone also is a bit more throaty like a jazz bass, so he probably used the jazz pickup of a p/j bass in addition to using a pick and a chorus effect
Overall this definitely sounds like it could be Duff. Bar 80 & 92 beat 4, bar 161's octave, the lack of prominence of the open strings/16th notes, and some small things give a little doubt.
I will say, the chorus does peek through here and there, the tone is right, and bar 170 all line up. Nothing sounds explicitly wrong except possibly the octave in bar 161 (which could just be me questioning it)
• Duff Mckagan and Krist...
can't really see the fretboard, but good shot of general positioning and his picking hand.
He plays the consistent open strings that the isolated track shows. He does take some liberty in the part (understandably).
2:42 - bar 39-20 by frets 10-12
4:56 - solo, shows the 16th notes that are hard to hear on studio track, but there in isolated bass
• Adler with Duff McKaga...
1:20 - bar 39-40 is by frets 10-12
1:34 - bar 48 by fret 12
2:18 - bar 96 by fret 12
3:03 - bar 128-129 by fret 12, before also shows general solo positioning well
3:39 - by fret 8 on E(b), not fret 3 in solo for octaves
4:37 - good shot of the bridge
• Guns N' Roses - Sweet ...
official music video
0:33 - 5th fret, kramer bass
2:03 - 5th fret
2:07 - 3 to 5, pick
2:53 - some of solo, shows the 16th open E(b) notes there
4:04 - fret 5, p/j bass
4:07 - mid neck for Outro
4:30 - low neck shift up
• Watch Krist Novoselic ...
shows Duff really well
2:04 - bar 48-49 position. Duff does the octave thing here that's not on the isolated track
4:06 - 111 & 112 position, then solo position & rhythms
4:40 - 5/7 positioning to lead into 2nd half of solo (bar 128/129)
5:48 - bar 173 positioning of the triplets
• Guns N' Roses - Sweet ...
6:28 - bar 161 around fret 7
Thanks for watching! Enjoy :)

It’s so refreshing to see the whole guy, not just the bass guitar.
What 💀💀
👁️👄👁️
@@RanveerNair-c1e haven’t you noticed?☺👍😜🤗
a smile a day keeps the doc away! (thank you for the tabs fella)
Impossible not to smile while playing this song. The bass part is just so well written.
Disagree. Duff is a dumbarse.
Brother, your smile while playing is got damn heartwarming, I love it
Ahaha...😂
😂
You make preparing for gigs, especially fill in gigs, a thousand times easier. There's a couple of guys doing this and you're right there with the ver best. Clean easy to read video, accurate, no BS, just right into the work. I've probably prepped 20 songs using your content.
Sooooo incredibly helpful for those gigs. In the same boat myself (pun intended)
a glass of alcohol for every time samboat smiles😂
Thank you so much for teaching me this song brother. Keep rocking! Awesome video!!!
Happiest and has my favorite bass tabs to watch
alright man! duffs styling is intricate! well done!
Thank you thank you! 😎
The expressions you had made this tut more invigorating and enjoyable
I didn't know Biff Tannen play bass so well!! Lol... thanks, dude!
Great choice Sam! Thanks a lot for sharing this bass cover and tabs!🤘🤘👏👏
Bro I can't tell you how many times I have played along to this. Thank you for posting! Finally able to use a pick due to this video :)
Thank you for the tabs! This is such a fun song to play :)
Bro is really doing "🙂😁🙂" the entire video
Dude that was absolutely awesome, I love your videos and learn so much. Thank you, you rock!

Hey I love your videos! I started playing bass a few months ago, and your videos make me want to practice every day :) Maybe you could next do Whenever I May Roam, Metallica?
Para los que nos gustan el rock!! Un temazo ... Y más tocado con el bajo ❤️❤️❤️
The description says E standard, might wanna correct that.
Thanks for catching that! It’s now updated 🤘
The hero we all needed
Great tone and great style! 🤘🤘
Awesome! thanks for posting this! you are awesome!
badass bro!
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: really appreciate the research notes that you include.
edit: your Jellynote link appears to be broken, or the content is no longer accessible.
Thank you! I’m glad you appreciate the notes. I want to give the reasoning for why something might be tabbed a certain way, because I know often the common way to play it might not be what’s actually played. It also happens that the studio version is never really played the same live.
I’ll also look into what happened with the link. Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention! If I don’t know something is wrong, I can’t do anything to fix it :)
@arrell, I just tested the Jellynote link on my end and it seems to be working. Takes me to the site without any issues
@@SamboatMusicBassCovers link seems to be working now, thanks.
Great video work! Reminds me of guitar hero 🔥 which is the game that inspired me to play in the first place
great Sam
Killer!!!!❤❤❤❤
0:46 It's also OK to just skip playing the open-string notes throughout the verses, even though Duff plays it on the album the way you're playing it. Somehow, it sounds better that sparser way when playing live with people. The Steven Adler band bassist skips those open-string notes.
It's actually way too busy in general. If I were playing this at a wedding or whatever I would cut out at least half the licks. It's weird it works so well in the original!
Love it!
That's a very good song
Thanks ❤️
real talent, fake smile 😢 but its ok, thanks for the tab
Wow, i have the same bass, want to re-learn this song. But man, you look so much like Cole Caufield !!
Good playin’! Do pay attention to the rests on the 2nd beat.
I love Duff's bass style, however...I have learned to play Duff's riffs without a pick...but rather the Flamenco style of Les Claypool when playing parts with picks. For some odd reason...I'm sloppy with picks. I don't know why that is. I do much better with strumming Flamenco style. Great video and Duff's bass lines are so much fun to play!
Hi Sam, great version and just what I was looking for to learn. Do you have it in tab format that I can purchase and then print?
Hi Andrew! It’s available here: www.jellynote.com/en/creators/samboatmusic
@@SamboatMusicBassCovers Thank you, Sam. Purchase completed! Keep up the great work.
Love your Videos, have learnt so much from yours alone. If you take song suggestions, CKY - 69 quite bitter beings! Awesome bassline
Do you keep passing wind?? 😂
What an epic smile 😂
Wow! There's a lot more going on with the bass than I realized! Great job!
How do you create the scrolling tabs!
I like your smile 😂
SaM Boat. When you were ever late did ppl cal yo Mister Boat?
blink twice if you need help
It's not that, he's just uncomfortably trying to control his guitar face (bass face in this case)
Its right. Mostly downstrokes and love the Texas Flag there Bubba.
건치가 멋진 청년
Excellent (and with a smile)!! How do you like your Squire Jazz? I have a Squire Mustang reissue (2004) and extremely happy with it.Thanks for posting, bro.
I like it! I don’t have any complaints
Pudieras sacar "master of Puppets - Metallica"?
🌟💫
👌🤝❤️
Duff.....or.....Gene ?
guysss... how do I tune my bass to eb????
Tune every string down a half step to be Eb Ab Db and Gb
@@SamboatMusicBassCovers yeah i just tuned everything down till it sounded about right, ty nonetheless
@@almano69 you can also put one finger on the first fret and then tune to the normal tuning. so like put your finger on the first fret of the e-string but tune to E normally. it works for as many steps down as you want lol
try cinderella somebody save me
Stop smiling FFS!
Bro what is up with these guitarists doing these odd smiles that look so unnatural? Like I can understand smiling when playing, but I’ve seen so many females doing it, and now seeing this guy do it. It’s like they are playing, they are focused, then they remember they are on camera so they show a super forced smile. It’s like someone is yelling “say cheese!” Every 5 seconds. It’s just odd to me lol it looks like a robot smiling.
i am gay
Nice
You don't play the open; it's muted.
