I know of no other pianist who's able to bring across such strong passion for his music as Lang Lang. It's truly a joy to watch and listen to his play!
It is absolutely riveting! Lang Lang is the most colorful player I've heard, & because of that, I would say he is definitely one of the best pianists of this generation. God bless him!
airina31 but he's becoming interesting for all the wrong reasons--he should stop with the fake smiles while playing. its actually embarrassing to watch --like a classical drag queen.
At three years of age Lang Lang piano training began. Lang Lang is well disciplined, respectable and humble. Beautiful vision.... for all the children of the world to learn piano...... beautiful classical music lives forever.
Chopin is my favourite componist and I yust LOVE piano music and here comes a truelly perfectionist, Lang Lang, and NOW I really wish I could play like this!!!! Thank you for filling up empy spaces in an 71year old woman's heart with the most beautifull music.
For those of you like me, who value above all else the emotional components of a musical performance, there is no one more gifted to present this to a hungry public than Lang Lang. I regret that Chopin is no longer among the living to hear him play. Lang Lang is unsurpassed in this respect.
+Art Landy Lang Lang was born with complete independence of the fingers.A very rare phenomenom, Liszt, Josef Hoffman, Horowitz, and now Lang Lang. There will always be jealousy and ignorance concerning his art which unfortunately is not consistent.Hopefully this great artist will someday get over his need to be in the spotlight with celebrities. Then he should consistently be able to identify with the masters as is the case here. His DVDs represent transcendental pianism of the highest order.
Thank you for sharing your musical erudition, which added to the appreciation I have for LL I will now savor his performances even more than I do at present..
+Art Landy Lang Lang is the only pianist that has ever been able to play the Tchaikovsky Concerto as well as Horowitz and he is the only pianist that could play Chopins 2nd Piano Sonata as well as Rachmaninoff.I pray that I live long enough to hear that historic event.
@@789armstrong you have to listen to more recordings man . Because your comment is one of the most ignorant stuff i've heard . For Tchaikovsky 1 listen to Volodos and for Chopin 2 , Michelangeli . I like Lang Lang but to claim he is THE BEST EVER is insulting . Also he sounds terrible and does stuff here that are in bad taste that Chopin would be rolling in his grave
Lang Lang has been developing into a very great artist. His technique is matchless However he colors every note within expressive phrasing. Each piece has an individual personal interpretation. He is a remarkable pianist. In one of his interviews he stated that his current teacher is Gary Graffman.
Minute 51:30 - Really, really encouraging for any of you watching this, who love piano and have never decided to go on with it, or haven't been able to. Just listen.
The message of Lang Lang is that even if you are a lousy pianist, you should not despair for if you believe in yourself and if you have the right attitude. Please do not misunderstand me, I am not saying that Lang Lang is a lousy pianist. I am saying that he has a personal way to play, and I think that is the only way you will ever succeed in today's world of musical performance. After all, Arthur Rubinstein said this in a public interview, when being asked if he was the best pianist of his time: -No, I am not. There are many other pianists who play technically better than I do, but the public likes my way to play, and this is what counts for me. I think the same is true today for Lang Lang. Yuja Wang plays much better than him, and yet he has established a place in a niche of the classical musical repertoire. I am not a fan of his play, but I love him as a human, the way he talks, the way he teaches children, the way he is simply himself. He is a lovely person, that's what I want to say ...
***** excellent analysis--there are many viewers who connect to Lang's emotional 'connection'--whether his is genuine is of no consequence to those in his spell.
After reading through numerous comments, I am dismayed at all those for whom music is all about sound and technique rather than an emotional experience. Lang Lang is great, surpassed perhaps only by Horowitz, who often stated that one must do something with the music and not just offer the notes. Lang Lang does just that and extremely well indeed.
I think we have to stop comparing musicians, who is better who is worse. Music is universal and probably the most beautiful creation of human kind. We need people like Lang Lang and others to make sure this heritage will never disappear

48:40 Lang Lang was talking about something I was more familiar with, International Ballroom Dancing. I stopped teaching about twenty years ago, I put my energy writing a book about International Ballroom Dancing. At the beginning, I was so busy just learning the basic figures, I did not pay attention to anything else, but after I was more comfortable to the dance, say, International Rumba, I began to interpret the passionate music, the timing, the hip movements and the postures, etc. Every time the dancing is different to me, depending on who the partner I danced with and what my physical condition was in that evening. Did I just finish a Vienese Watlz moments before I was invited to another dance immediately afterwards? Those are the factors of my performance in that particular evening. Anyway, I had as much as fun as Lang Lang playing his music by Beethoven. George Wu, A.I.A. 2014-3-5
People go to theaters and movies not just seeing the performance of the actors and actresses, but also the performance, the intrepretation and the expressions.. People do not go to see a dead face performing a romantic ballad. That is why people went to see Lang Lang and Kim Novak, not Rubinstein or any other poker face ! George Wu, AIA, NCARB, ARTIST,PLANNER 2015-6-30
Agree with your opinion and also with David Barless's. First of all, that place is not a concert hall at all, i suppose, so the resonance is different from the music that we hear in normal concert halls. And as David Barless said, probably how the sound was mixed down. There must be some kind of sound technology to record this performance, and the way they adjust this recording is really up to the technicians.
The interview guy has a very condescending tone toward Lang Lang. Highly dislike. Who the hell he think he is? Just regular radio show host and he gets to say such things? Despicable. Lang lang is very well known globally, thank you very much.
I felt this vibe as well, it's almost as if the interviewer/audience treats him like some sort of chump in their eyes, it's really sad, especially because if you listen to the way Lang Lang treats his styling you can sense that he is a profoundly poetic and beautiful individual with an incredible mind as well.

I haven't felt this condescending vibe you are so worked-up about. There's a tiny bit of a humorous atmosphere at most. You might wanna watch again Tom Zhang, avoid doing this when you just woke-up and didn't have breakfast.
May be referring to his music as "those things" is not very constructive. A bit more stage for Lang Lang and a little less for the interviewer, perhaps?@
Right on! As for Chopin, we know he often played his pieces differently himself, but George Sand also described how obsessive and meticulous he was when he set his ideas to paper.
The sound of the piano does not help hjm,but it is decidedly modest with the timing of the melody. With classic music do not mess around or you are a talented musician or forget it and in relation to the guy who plays the ukulele (Jake),there are three categories of difference as a musician. Maybe he is a recommended?
ajoiio - right on man! The issue here is the "intellectual elite" (esp the critics) think they know better than the plebeans. But as individuals, we have as much power to express our opinions as the old elite. Who knows what Chopin intended? But any great "cover" version raises our spirits.

LL is coming from a very different culture. His body language and the way he plays is mirroring the asian way to express feelings. However, to all the purists here, music is creating itself every time new by an interpretation. And that's what it is, an interpretation. Some people don't express their opinion (interpretation) but judge the playing capabilities. This is ignorant and stupid. I love most of his interpretations some of them I hate. nevertheless I think he enriches my life .Xie Xie LL
Havent you ever heard of the phrase 'the artist is dead'?? It is NOT the perfomers duty to replicate the original piece whatsoever. Art is a language that is interpreted differently by everyone, and seeing it through different eyes makes it truly become -and stay- alive.
