Sister works in downtown tacoma... naked homeless is not unheard of. Her coworker saw a naked homeless guy jump and cling onto the back of an SUV to hop a ride. Lock your car doors and keep eyes strait ahead for safest traveling through tacoma. The beloved aroma is not often around, but on a good day you also need a noseplug

Totally changed from the rough port city I remember! New building and lack of graffiti and homeless encampment is obvious. That city is doing something right unlike the dystopia of Seattle!

I’ve been looking at cities to relocate to from Miami. Tacoma always looks nice in videos but have heard it’s rough, can anybody shed light on this.

@@ShoneDaddy I grew up in pierce and king county during my teens and I am there working occasionally doing sub contracting. I really enjoy that area of the united states. It is dangerous no lie. The gang sets, homeless, mischievous juveniles.

@@ShoneDaddy its Ok, if you get into a nice neighborhood, but for the population, size, theres really not a lot going on, most everything you are going to want to do requires you to drive there. And while this makes the city looks interesting, it's a lot of empty buildings. Its more like a giant small town

North End, Ruston, and University Place and Gig Harbor are the good places to live if you have money. Rough parts of Tacoma are Hilltop, South Hosmer. Pacific Ave is sketch due to the amount of homeless you might see coming from the South End, but generally safe. I’ve lived here my whole life, I have an idea of where I feel safe and don’t.

Hello all, I had the opportunity/misfortune to live in Tacoma from June to December 1999. I was staying with friends when I know there was something uneasy I started to scout for a place to live (outdoors) unfortunately. My spot was along Pacific Ave. , My hang out 38th street tavern (no lo longer there 9:11 ). And work was at labor ready on 6th St. A twenty minute bus ride, a50 minute bike ride, and hour and twenty minute walk ( did all three) from a bus stop at 34th along Pacifich

I grew up in Tacoma in the 1960’s.
I remember that tavern and the Flying Boots Cafe.
My parents always got our furniture at Schoenfelds downtown, I think on Pacific Ave. We also shopped at Woolworths.
      A lot has changed downtown.

I don't know Tacoma for sure, but generally speaking our cities are far more car-centric. people are:
      1. indoors in their homes
      2. indoors at their jobs
      3. indoors at some particular place (restaurant etc.)
      4. in a car in-between those places
sadly there are fewer pedestrianized places than Europe, so walkability and consequently people walking about isn't as much of a thing - it's particular walkable neighborhoods, malls, parks, etc. that you'll see more people in. things are starting to change and cities are trying to revitalize downtowns to become more attractive to live and explore, but it's a slow and ongoing process.
